Graham Rahal is shopping for a NW ride for Mid-Ohio and possibly other events along with his IndyCar schedule.

The Jeremy Mayfield case just gets weirder.
10 of the 19 felonies (LOL 19 felonies) have been dropped because the co-defendant who was acting as prime witness was, you know, killed in his own drug-related police chase.
Whatever happened to just going out and tipping cows to get your kicks?

Edit: new link. Thx Ross.

I wonder how far down the field drivers actually get paid. I gotta figure the bottom 15 drivers or so have to pay for their seats.

Anyone who started every race last year made 3m in prize money, which is split about 50-50 with the team.

What did they change about the prize money rules to try and prevent start-and-parking? I've seen in recent races that some drivers I recognized as S&P were now actually making efforts to finish the race.

I don't think they did. Though there was talk of paying out less to the back field positions to make S&P less efficient.

What tends to happen is after a team S&Ps a while, they build up enough budget to race properly.

I went back and looked at Jayski's results page from the Miami-Homestead finale.
Under Driver Results shows total year 2012 winnings.

What's weird about that is the 78 car, which runs none of the associate 'official whatever of nascar' decals, gets as much money as cars above and below it. So are all those contingency sponsors end-of-year payments or something? Because I thought the reason you run all those tiny logos behind the front wheel was to boost your earnings.

Dunno how it works in NASCAR, but in the NHRA there are multiple reasons to run the stickers.
Some are mandated, since they are series sponsors, since they are series sponsors you get a break on buying a variety of the items represented.
We got NGK sparkplugs for close to free for example, since they were a series sponsor. And not crap ones. Same for Fram filters, and so on. When you add it all up, it came to huge savings on ancillary parts throughout the year.
Contingency bucks: Carry the sticker, and the sponsor pays if you make the final 16. We would sometimes have up to 25 cars in our class, but only 16 would qualify. Automatic payday, and the more contingency stickers you carry, the better. Win, place or show, and you get even more. Score top points for the year, more money at the end of the season. Throwing on a few stickers every year would generate up to 15% of our budget if we did well.EDIT: In the pro classes it would add up to be a drop in the bucket, we were classified as sportsman when running Top Fuel Alcohol.

Pretty face. Not into the muscles.

How many women do we have in a hands-on garage capacity in NASCAR?

I know there's a mechanic for Turner who is also an accredited stuntwoman
Her name is Ashley Parlett. Her twitter is @Just_AP. She's pretty funny too.

Hamlin has been a douche for a long time.

On Keselowski (2009?) :
"There are a lot of guys with chips to cash in- but I'm going to be the first at the pay-window"

OMG dude stop watching Days Of Thunder.

I was under the impression that a couple years back Cobb had an all female crew in the trucks for one race, or maybe it was Kelly Sutton, but I remember seeing a pink crew with very diverse sizes struggling a bit around a truck .
Anyway, it's good to see Nascar finally has an answer to Mclaren. It's all covered again now.

I probably should, since I'm closest and the family shopped in Fontana when we lived in an adjacent town...but, that might have to wait 'til Sonoma (which I'm also familiar with) or the Fontana Indycar race.

So, in my stead, I nominate Whitewater

Considering the moral levels of Nascar fans, what are the chances of getting a 'decent' sponsorship and go back to racing

Lots of interior, chassis, and engine views, with some photos you probably haven't seen before.

Oh, no.

...Woman is rushing her gravely ill baby to the remote country hospital in a raging storm when, rounding a dangerous mountain curve, her car begins to slide. As she fights for control, suddenly she feels a pair of sure hands grab hold of the steering wheel, miraculously guiding the car between the rocks, cliff, semis, etc, driving at unbelievable speeds until they arrive at the hospital. As she pulls into driveway, she sees The Man in Black standing in the shadows, who nods, tips his cap and then dissolves into thin air.

I have been told this story straight-faced more than once.

Don't be silly now, please try and be realistic.

He is a driver, they can drive cars really really good but they can't cure babies. You need a doctor for that.
