And no penalty for Newman's comments.

So, apparently, you insult the sanctioning body all you want, just don't say anything bad about the car.

There has been more than one race this year with only 43 entrants. There is possible that it will be 42 for some races after Brickyard.

Some of the lower budget teams will probably attempt to run more, since it'll mean a more likely shot at getting race money.

In fact the last race of 2001 at Loudin had only 42 starters because it was supposed to be run the week after 9/11 and delayed and Eel River #27 shut down before the race could be run.

As a result this is the last Sprint Cup level race ot have less than 43 starters .

As for the Penske punishment , it seems the treatment of Carl Long pretty much means CASH fines from now on will be tuff to overturn when it comes to cheating.

So in a way some of the fat cat team owners may now regret not helping Carl at least remain in the sport even if it was only for a short while longer , since carl's fine is now the standard baseline for punishment.

Significant penalty reductions for Gibbs. The adjustment moves Kenseth from 11th to 4th in points and gives him bonus points for the win relative to the Chase. The only increase was the manufacturer penalty by 2 in response to the TRD supplier issue

• Crew chief Jason Ratcliff: The $200,000 fine remains intact; NASCAR suspension now covers one championship points event. In addition, he will be placed on NASCAR probation until the completion of the next three championship points events following his reinstatement;
• Car owner Joe Gibbs: Loss of championship owner points has been reduced to 12. All other components of his penalty were rescinded;
• Driver Matt Kenseth; Loss of championship driver points has been reduced to 12. All other components of his penalty were rescinded;
• Manufacturer: The loss of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series manufacturer championship points has been increased to seven

Well, someone's prayers have been answered. Some reduction in fines, people suspended, and for how long; but the big one is Kenseth is only docked 12 points and gets to keep his bonus points. So he's now 4th in the championship. And he gets his Win credit for Chase wild card purposes.

Actually that IS signifigant far beyond TMZ fare. ISC desperately want the books to remain sealed. Motorsports writers are salivating hoping to see exactly what those books look like, since its one of the World's great secrets. Typically, they might not see what they hope to, or know what it is even if they see it :D

According to Jaysky there is a complete Income Statement from Mr. France.

:love: This alone worth a million dollars.

France declared usd 0.5 Billion in possessions when the marriage began, plus is expected to inherit another 1.0 Billion :eek:

NBC to pick up TNT's NASCAR races? ESPN to cut back?: NASCAR has signed one contract for 2015-2022, for the first 13 Cup races, with Fox Sports, which includes the new Fox Sports 1 that replaces Speed in August. Fox considered it a priority to get NASCAR as one of its anchor sports for its all-sports Fox Sports 1 network, so it already signed a deal for 2015-2022 (at a 36% rate increase). While the sport might have lost some of its buzz, Fox Sports recognized the loyalty of NASCAR fans to watch its programming. It will eventually put some Cup races on that cable network to boost its profile. The big question now turns to who will televise the remaining 23 races of the season. Right now, TNT has six and ESPN/ABC has 17. NBC is expected to make a run at NASCAR. It could replace TNT for those six races but there's also speculation it could take 12 or 13 races and ESPN/ABC gets the final 10 or 11 events. With Turner relinquishing NASCAR.com to NASCAR, it makes little sense for it to have the six races. It's not enough time to really get in a good flow. The TNT telecasts aren't bad at all, but it's just too short of a bridge from Fox to ESPN for any continuity or for the announcers to get into a groove. If NBC lands races, that would put more Cup events on network television, which is important considering the addition of cable races to the Fox portion of the schedule.(Sporting News)(5-15-2013)

DAMN shame Dick chose to deal with things this way.

He was a HUGE fan fav here when he drove the #90 for Junie and is well remembered for his driving skills and some of the "quirks" he had which made him rather unique among the drivers when he drove.

My most prominent memory of Dick Trickle? Him lighting a cig during the caution laps in a race.

Thats crazy. I met Dick a couple times. Went to school with his grandchildren. Was a nice guy. Forest Lawn Cemetery is about 5 miles from my house, his granddaughter who died in a car wreck in 2001 is buried there.

RIP Dick Trickle

From Rusty Wallace:

"I'm in 100 percent shock. Dick Trickle was my mentor. When I was short track racing, I would call him every Monday morning and he would always help me with race setups and stuff. He and I had such a good time telling little stories, but he was the guy that taught me almost everything in the American Speed Association. And he was the guy that I battled right to the end for my 1983 ASA championship. I barely beat the guy that taught me everything. I'd not seen Dick as much as I'd like to of late. He was a legend. A man that'd won over a thousand short track races, was one of the most winning short trackers in America, was a role model to many short track racers coming up. Could just do magic with the race car and he taught me so much about racing. My success in the ASA and what Trickle taught me is what got me into NASCAR. That's what got me hired by Cliff Stewart back in '84. Between Larry Phillips and Dick Trickle, they taught me everything."

And in 'water is wet' news:

Kwasniewski to trucks?: Dylan Kwasniewski graduates from Faith Lutheran High School on June 7, obviously a landmark day in a young person's life. So is the day someone turns 18, and for Kwasniewski that day is May 31. It is then that Kwasniewski, considered a potential future star driver, will be eligible to compete in a NASCAR Nationwide or Camping World Truck series race. He will finish the season in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East but will look to possibly run in one of those other series during breaks in the schedule. "I'm confident we'll have some Truck or some Nationwide or some combination of both," said Chris Newman, president of Spire Sports & Entertainment, which represents Kwasniewski. Newman said Kwasniewski could make his debut in either of those series in Sparta, Ky., at the Truck race June 27 or Nationwide race June 28. Kwasniewski drives for Turner Scott Motorsports, which owns three full-time Truck and three full-time Nationwide teams. Turner Scott could provide Kwasniewski with a fourth seat for either or both races, but Newman said the team would need at least three or four weeks to put it together. Turner has scooped up a lot of young talent in the last year. And they're proving he knows what he's doing.
But they have to fit in somewhere, which could be trouble for the Brazilians.

As long as they have their own money. . .

I look to Turner moving to Sprint Cup (with some of these guys) in 2015 as a flagship Volvo entry. :p

Is that actually the case? I recall NASCAR raising the age limited to 18 around the time 16-year old Kyle Busch made his debut.

"We're going to move the age restrictions that currently exist for the trucks from 18 down to 16, and that rule will be in place for road courses and any tracks 1.1 mile or less," O'Donnell said.

16 year olds are eligible to race in Trucks at tracks that 1.1 miles or shorter and road courses. 16 year old Erik Jones had a top ten at Martinsville this year running for KBM.

Hmm, missed that news. It makes sense, the only reason NASCAR reacted to Kyle Busch racing was due to tobacco advertising laws, and thankfully that part of racing is history now.

Can't wait to get back in the seat". Annett broke his sterum at the end of the Daytona race and has been sidelined since then.(5-20-2013)
