Tasmanian not named Marcos Ambrose to run the 54 for Gibbs at Road America and Mid-Ohio.

Hmm. . .looks like Kyle and Kurt's long lost brother, maybe that's why he got the ride.

Alright another Aussie ringer! Good to see he'll be racing, and not just a set-up/quali man.
Good bloke that Kyle Busch.

Haha never saw that before. Shades of Heidfeld.

SVG is a confirmed NASCAR fan. I'm sure he'll get some seat-time in the next year or two.

Yeah, I've seen the reports on Twitter but I had been holding back posting anything until I got some proper verification.

Hoping for the best for Leffler.

That is a nasty looking wreck and the reports from a lot of sources are not good. Let's hope for the best and that it's just 1 rumor spiraling.

Terrible to hear.

That's the plight of racing, and it is the dark side of the sport we love.

Leffler competed in 73 NASCAR Sprint Cup races since 2001. He finished 43rd at Pocono last weekend in his only start this season. He also ran 294 Nationwide races, winning two. He won at Nashville in 2004 and what is now O'Reilly Raceway Park in 2007. He competed in 56 Camping World Truck Series races from 2000-12, winning at Dover in 2003. Leffler was a member of the National Midget Hall of Fame in 2003. He won four USAC championships, winning three consecutive USAC midget titles (1997-99). He also won the USAC Silver Crown championship in 1998. After running four Nationwide races in 1999, he ran the full season in 2000 for Joe Gibbs Racing. Leffler moved to the Sprint Cup Series in 2001, driving for car owner Chip Ganassi with a best finish of 10th at Homestead. It would be the only top-10 in his Cup career. He did not drive a full season in Cup again. He ran 19 in 2005 for JGR before being replaced in the ride that would go to Denny Hamlin. Leffler had better success in the Nationwide Series with 107 top-10 finishes. He finished a career-best third in the points in 2007 for Braun Racing. Leffler finished behind champion Carl Edwards and runner-up David Reutimann that season, both of whom were Sprint Cup regulars at that time. Leffler leaves behind a son Charlie Dean Leffler.

Leffler made his first, and only, start in the Indianapolis 500 in 2000. This effort was put forth by Treadway Racing with backing from Roger Penske's United Auto group. Leffler qualified in the 17th position, which is also where he finished.

What terrible news to find out upon logging on to the computer.

Being on the Western side, I saw Jason race early on. He hung out with Parnelli Jones' sons, Page & P.J., so much at their home in Palos Verdes that he picked up their speech and mannerisms to the point where Parnelli joked he had trouble telling which ones were his.

I covered his first Silver Crown race. Standing at the backstretch crossover point as he did his qualifying lap, he took a very interesting line...basically he went diagonally across the backstraight and appeared to be fighting it all the way. A guy standing by me at the gate and I conversed about it. As he came back by on his cool down lap, he was visibly shaking in the car. Obviously, he got over his nerves quite well.

RIP Jason, you were a racer

Really nice newsreel-type coverage of the 1957 Daytona Beach racers... when they still raced on the sand...great closeups on Ray Nichels, Smokey Yunick, Bill Stroppe, etc...Old Pontiac promotional film in excellent condition -- bright, colorful, and crystal clear.

I do not follow NASCAR (unless visiting US and landing in a bar at the wrong moment), nor did I know the racer, but it is always sad when tragedy hits.

My condolences to his loved ones.

I have also moved the thread about Jason back here. My apologies, in hindsight this was the best place for expressing reaction to the news all along.

Oh?

I was just reflecting on the accident that killed a marshal at the Canadian GP on Sunday, plus today the UK had news of a fatal crash in the Peking to Paris Rally.

Sophie no need to apologize, and I feel a separate thread would have been for the best, particularly since he wasn't just a "NASCAR" racer.

Let's just hope this one don't come in three...

Keselowski says rivals stole Ford employees, information: #2-Brad Keselowski met with Ford Motor Co. employees in Dearborn on Thursday and signed autographs and answered questions.

Keselowski criticized Hendrick and Gibbs for "stealing away" employees and information from Ford Cup teams, including his own Penske Racing outfit and Roush Fenway Racing. Keselowski didn't mince words:"There are little things you can do,"
"What keeps it from going too far is the fact that Hendrick and Gibbs have this nasty little habit of going to other teams and outbidding other people and taking those employees and stealing our information, and, when that happens, that puts walls up between the camps because you are giving up more than one piece of information you are giving up two companies' information and trying to protect yourself against that, it forces you to put up walls. It doesn't necessarily lend itself to working together. But still, we are going to put in a valiant effort where we can and where it makes sense to put Ford in a position to have the best results possible."
Keselowski cited two incidents where he claimed Hendrick and Gibbs lured away Ford team employees with big offers.
"Gibbs stole the Roush aero director and took all the information," said Keselowski.
"And Hendricks took three employees from our Chase-winning team last year."

Took? Stole?

Rofl, must be rough for the engineers reading this that swapped. "Stole?"
People aren't property BK.

Besides, if there really is information headhunting, do you think this is something nascar should limit? Or is it up to team's lawyers etc to sort it out?

Someone should tell Brad about "Woking Photocopying shops" and he'll understand the difference between "stole" and "knowledge of the job".

It's common practice, and if teams want to throw $$$$ at good people then so be it, I bet Penske never paid decent $$$ for a good engineer and then made no use of what he learned in his career did they Brad?

Seems BK's feeling the pressure as the defending champion. He's slid back to 9th in points, no wins yet. It was very surreal seeing him in the mid-pack fighting with Danica Patrick on the penultimate restart at Pocono.
