Seems BK's feeling the pressure as the defending champion. He's slid back to 9th in points, no wins yet. It was very surreal seeing him in the mid-pack fighting with Danica Patrick on the penultimate restart at Pocono.

He was running top 5 before he had that power slide after contact with Stewart and had to pit.

And then Rick Hendrick was all

"Brad misrepresents the facts and spends a lot of time making insinuations and accusations about other teams when he should be focused on his own program and competing at a high level. I hope he figures that out and begins representing himself and the sport with more class.”

I'm just going to come out and say this, in the hopes that someone can correct me where I'm wrong.

Something that troubled me post-Wheldon, and I'm seeing again, is the rush to auction things and make donations. Presumably 'for the family'. Which on paper is a nice idea.

But my quick research says Leffler had 5mil in earnings over the years of Cup, 10mil in Nationwide, about a mil in truck.

Let's assume a 50-50 split with the team, he probably didn't pay more than 1/3 in taxes after loopholes and deductions. He had some coin left over. We don't know his personal finances but Id be surprised if he died destitute.

So I feel uncomfortable about exploiting people's sympathy financially.

I had a similar sort of thinking when Wheldon died too. The man won the Indy 500 twice, it wasn't likely he was hurting for cash. Hurting for sponsor money isn't the same as hurting for real money. But there were a thousand things you could buy to go to his family. Nothing wrong with that of course, but the situation is repeating itself here.

You guys know that the people that make the money when it comes to "charities" are the middle men, right?

The people who set up the donation website, the people who "coordinate" things, accept the payments, transfer the payments, the lawyers, etc.

That's the reason these things pop up, it's not for the family.

Even if it's legit and direct, I still feel odd about taking money from people making 50k for a household that was probably earning 500k(though perhaps not this year).

I was shocked when I read he didn't have life insurance. But then I realized he probably didn't need it.

Keselowski says rivals stole Ford employees, information: #2-Brad Keselowski met with Ford Motor Co. employees in Dearborn on Thursday and signed autographs and answered questions.

Keselowski criticized Hendrick and Gibbs for "stealing away" employees and information from Ford Cup teams, including his own Penske Racing outfit and Roush Fenway Racing. Keselowski didn't mince words:"There are little things you can do,"
"What keeps it from going too far is the fact that Hendrick and Gibbs have this nasty little habit of going to other teams and outbidding other people and taking those employees and stealing our information, and, when that happens, that puts walls up between the camps because you are giving up more than one piece of information you are giving up two companies' information and trying to protect yourself against that, it forces you to put up walls. It doesn't necessarily lend itself to working together. But still, we are going to put in a valiant effort where we can and where it makes sense to put Ford in a position to have the best results possible."
Keselowski cited two incidents where he claimed Hendrick and Gibbs lured away Ford team employees with big offers.
"Gibbs stole the Roush aero director and took all the information," said Keselowski.
"And Hendricks took three employees from our Chase-winning team last year."

Well, I hope it isn't going out huntin' with the boys or someone may pull a Cheney on his ass.
That kinda mouthin' off will be paid back behind the scenes, and not on the track.

Some NASCAR driver should celebrate by doing a nice clean drifting lap or set of maneuvers (like drift around a small area).

Hendrick wants Nationwide ride for Chase Elliott: Team owner Rick Hendrick hopes to put Chase Elliott, the 17-year-old son of 1988 Cup champion Bill Elliott, in a Nationwide Series car in 2014. Chase Elliott is coming off a win in the ARCA series last weekend at Pocono with Aaron's as his primary sponsor. He has finished sixth, fifth and fourth in three starts for Hendrick in the Truck Series with Aaron's on the hood. Asked about his plans for 2014, Hendrick, a co-owner of JR Motorsports, said "Hopefully, in the Nationwide Series.'' Hendrick didn't rule out Aaron's being the sponsor. "They like him a lot,'' Hendrick said before Sunday's Sprint Cup race at Michigan International Speedway. "They've been with him since he started. We've had a lot of interest in him -- a lot of interest. I tell you, his record in Trucks, and that [Pocono] race, it was pretty awesome.'' Hendrick signed Elliott to a multiyear deal in 2011.(ESPN.com)(6-16-2013)

He sees Gordon saying the things he are saying about retirement and is pushing Chase along slightly faster than what he would have normally done imo. He's got plenty of options between Turner and JRM so it shouldn't be too hard. Though, Aaron's possibly sponsoring him in a Chevrolet in NW while sponsoring MWR in Cup may be a sign of something. . .

I'd rather see him full-time in the truck series in 2014. Have him grab the ROTY title there, throw him in a Busch race or two, and progress from there. He's still a kid.
You don't want to 'Sliced Bread' the guy.

'Axalta Coating Systems announced a three-year contract extension with the #24 Hendrick Motorsports team through 2016.'

If I could, I would skip Trucks bcs it has bigger aerodynamic levels [downforce].
Why get used to higher downforce just to reduce it again in NNS.
Its counter productive, IMO.

I think Hendricks is in a race against the clock to find a successor to Gordan and secure the Axalta sponsorship.

I was thinking Coors should get on board with him, like the old man. But I guess that's not a possibility for at least 4 more years. Maybe Ovaltine

Or Oreo/Ritz, who was Jr. NW sponsor for a while.

While I'm on a roll with sponsors aimed at children, how the return of Cartoon Network? Just replace Flintstones, Scooby Doo, Dexter's Lab with Adventure Time, Regular Show, etc.:

Off topic- but it's been on my mind all afternoon.
Worked on this old Brownstone apartment in Brooklyn today doing some drywall repair. It's next door to a Baptist church.
So I look through the window into the churches backyard and sitting there under trees and stuff is a '68 Mustang Fastback. Looked pretty straight from what I could see, although god knows (heh, he probably does) how many Northeast winters it's endured back there.
Still, I'm back there tomorrow so I might pop round and see what kind of condition it's in, and whether they need it 'removed'.

Weird thing...

After the race they were handing out Sun Drop, 7up, etc. Not just samplers, but they were unwrapping cases and just handing them out at the gate. It's not like the stuff goes off or you can't continue to sell the stock. I mean, even if you had to get rid of the leftovers, why open up an entire wrapped wholesale case and give them awy?

Unless it's some "omg Ryan won!" promotion.

O'Connell instead of Fellows...hmm. Looks like Piquet will take a second RA win easily, I don't see any real competition for him there.

Well, at least we get Villeneuve and Fellows vs the Cup drivers at Sonoma, should be entertaining.

No, Turner and most other teams have switched to 2013-spec cars. He has a different crew chief this year as well (Trent Owens was moved to Kyle Larson's car).

Yes, NP will drive the same chassis. TSM-300
Larson will take JA's one from last year. TSM-301
JA will take an updated one, which was tested in ViR TSM-305

There is no such thing as an easy win on a Nationwide road course race. Idiots and cautions can ruin the race of even the best driver, and usually do.
