Well, that doesn't work anymore.
No more two car drafting as Ambrose and Earnhardt found out today with the new package.
And took out twelve cars at the same time.
More here
The bumpers no longer match up, with the following car so low it forklifts the guy in front.

'56 Olds, not a world away from my '55 (or the bits of it I've got :-/ )

Awesome pic GM.

Has anyone watched much of the testing ?

@nascarcasm has been keeping me amused:

"We're done. Clint, you can go ahead and go home...Clint? Clint? Where's Clint?" #DaytonaTesting #NASCAR
Posted Image

In their garage stall, @JimmieJohnson and Chad Knaus polish a pristine #48 car, as all others drive by and give them the finger.

Stewart: "Hey guys - looks like you're drafting. Can I join in?" Everyone in unison: "NO." #Talladega #DaytonaTesting

Difficult to believe teams don't have enough parts for the Gen-6 car, when there are PLENTY available strewn about backstretch at Daytona.

Ditto. That off camber T7 was a fun place to watch with the heavy iron as well
Were you there for the GTP races too?
I was cleaning up the closet the other day and found an old Riverside Raceway hat and couldn't bear to toss it.

Damn I love this photo.

 I say June of 1970, so I wasn't there for that one. Lotsa West Coast guys up toward the front. Jack McCoy in row 2 (purple Dodge Daytona), Dick Bown's yellow Plymouth Super Bird in row 3, Jim Insolo in the blue #38 Chevelle in row 4. Scotty Cain in blue #45 Ford Torino another row back. Good grief, that's the Cos Cancilla Oldsmobile with Jerry Oliver driving back there in row 7. I don't know whether it was still the 4-door or not. Probably was. I also see Ray Elder and John Soares farther back in their winged Mopars.

oohh oohhh...I want the OMS hat Jim !!

whitewater- Don't think I went to the IMSA but we went to the Can Am races there in 67-70.
Dad parked the Dodge Monaco wagon on the inside of the back straight and read the paper while I watched them honk on just before T9
The Denny and Bruce show was amazing. One of those years I remember seeing a massive accident there..was it Sam Posey?

Jim, Jp, Whitewater, that is badass all you fellers were around for this era, or even at the very track at the time that pic was taken.
Respect.

Unfortunately, the OMS will be kinda kid sized and my melon grew a bit since then.

Whitewater, jp...I never made it to the IMSA races, but did make it to the Times GP the last couple of years it was Can-Am and its first as F5000. Thanks to an older brother (several yrs. older), who vowed as soon as he had a job and made some money we'd hit all the RIR races. Not only that, but he got us pit passes for the Times GP each year. It was cool being barely a teen and wandering around with a garage pass  (even ditched school to go up on Friday one year :) ). I saw just about everything on the schedule for about 2 1/2 years: Can-Am, F5000, NASCAR

jp, my brother made it to the Can-Am races in 69 & 70. I recall Posey having a major accident (t-boning another driver's stalled car) in a F5000 practice session. He wrote about it in "The Mudge Pond Express"

Yes, yes it was. Thanks for posting Magoo  Glendale, Arizona's own Martin Robinson.

While not as significant, or as good a song as "El Paso", he also did this song about the life of a driver (some nice photos with this clip):

"That Feel When" I realize that Robby Gordon has had more success in Cup than Montoya.

There is a silver lining, though: the "Controversies" section of Robby's wikipedia page is the longest part, and is good readin':

Sure. Depends where you are. On Mercury a day is equivalent to 58 earth days, while the days on Venus are longer than their years. And then you have the important scientific principle that it's always 5 o'clock somewhere.

That was certainly a unique track configuration, I can't recall a modern track that had as much character as did RIR. A high bank turn, a really long straight on the backside and the crazy esses up the hill. The first race team I ever worked for and the first race I teamed at was there, when we ran the what was the forerunner of stadium off road races in a SCORE event. We ran the esses in that pic on what is the right side on the side of the hill, our Class 4 truck was in nearly a full lock to the left all the way across. Fun stuff.Posted Image
Here's a pic of our Frankenstein truck, a '71 Datsun P/U with the undercarriage stripped out and replaced with Jeep running gear and a Datsun 510 2000cc 3S race engine slapped in it.
Looking at that thing next to a modern day trophy truck is hilarious.

Was driving from my folks house in central Florida to Daytona Beach and I looked up and saw the track right next to the road. We didn't have time for the museum or tour but we could see how big that track is it was pretty impressive.

I am hoping to maybe visit (free room and board) my folks again and catch the truck race with my wife if we can organize it in time this year.

What is the latest on Piquet Jr.s plans this year? Thanks

Still silence on the Piket front.

He's the only Turner driver yet to announce his plans. I believe James Buescher'a announcement to stay in NCWTS to defend his title threw a bit of a spanner in the works as far as Piquet's plan was concerned. Buescher's truck seat was supposedly open to Jeb Burton, but Turner have since said they'll run the #4 full-time, so the #30 is still open.

Not having Buescher in NNS now opens up the option of Piquet climbing the ladder to NNS on a full-time basis (he has the sponsorship that Turner is now missing with the departure of Great Clips), although they may keep him in the #30 Truck and turn the NNS ride into a part timer shared between Buescher, Piquet and Danica Patrick, who apparently has a 10 race deal with the team.

I believe Allgaier is the only full-time NNS driver announced so far.

That article wasn't clear to me, Is Ganassi going to have a NNS team in 2013 or is he loaning him to another team?

I really hope they have a NNS team.

Could be that other Turner NNS car, as he was farmed out to Turner last year.

Either way, great news. This kid seems unstoppable.

Oh, an influx of NASCAR news:

-Ryan Blaney confirmed for BKR full-time. Ross Chastain for 15 in the other truck. Dave Blaney will run the #19 at Eldora.
-Childress will shut down the #2 Truck team that Coulter drove. Tim George Jr. will apparently take his Applebee's money to Eddie Sharp Racing.
-Austin Dillon will move to Cup in 2014, may run the #3. (I will lololol to the bank if it's in a Dodge. . .but that is just an unsubstantiated rumor.)
-Some British dude is trying break into NASCAR with MacDonald Motorsports in NNS.
-Kenseth will run 5 NNS race in the #20.
-Larson may run some Cup races at the end of the year along with his NW schedule. JPM is on the last year of his contract. . .
