"I couldn't care less" about being third!

This just shows that it´s most of the time not him who is giving those answers the Lotus PR teams posts after qualifyings and races

Was it on the trackside?

Yeah it was  It didn't show whether the car was still there at the time, I guess it was.

No new engine for Kimi so no penalty according to F1zone.

Not exactly. Instinctively like any racer, he does not want to give up any points or positions, be it in the race or championship. But here, the reporter was asking a stupid question that if he would like to attend the FIA gala. Kimi said he does not care if he is 2nd, 3rd or 4th, if he doesn't win. He wants to hold on to whatever position he is in. But he is not placing as much importance on it as some of his fans! Classic Kimitrolling of a reporter who asked a stupid question! :)

I remember Kovalainen also sitting in a camping chair during the 2007 race, when he found himself in the outside part of the track after the accident. That's why he was still there clapping to Räikkönen after the race

Maybe they should have taken the Gamble, put a new one in, get a time in Q1 and start from pit lane with ability to choose setup with race day weather.

Right now he is screwed having missed yet again about two thirds of practice time.

I think i would have gone with a new one if one was available, I think Kimi would be pretty capable at getting through the field with a new engine, but we'll see what happens, we have to hope they've calculated all the variables and come up with the least risky solution, it would be a great shame to lose 3rd in the WDC because of an engine failure.

If that engine blows up during the first lap of qualy, I'm going to laugh my *** off.

Good news that he wont face a 10-place drop. My initial frustration had me assuming he would have to!
No build-up to qualifying though, and I'm certain he will now be outqualified by Grosjean, 'cause he already looked quick.

makes you think of races like Suzuka 2005 -- p17 start. Once upon a time when driver skill made a pretty big difference regardless of the start position...

He'll just have to copy RG's setup and then tweak it further in Q1 and Q2.

Expect him to put in a lot of laps during the first 2 sessions

Difference with new engine is not that much. Time lost on practice running is not worth running from pit lane with changed set up for race.

Can one change the set-up (completely) during the qualy?

Within the time constraints you can change aero and mechanical setup, yes.

Same here! Really depends whether he found a good set-up or not! If he struggles like he did yesterday he wont make it into Q3

Edit: It seems to rain now!Eeeew!

I was thinking of that earlier, now that would really be some achievement

We're in for interesting qualy and race and overall its been a great season all round, for me Kimi has already justified the faith Lotus placed in him, but i still want to see him get a good position so hope the yabba dabba doo engine holds out.

Once the qualy starts, you cannot change the car.

Depends what you mean by change. You can change wing angles and dampers, etc. during quali but not between quali and the race. You can wind on front wing flap angle at any time and you can change damaged/inoperative components at any time.

Yes, we have seen all those. But not the "Within the time constraints you can change aero and mechanical setup". Aero and mechanical set up changes allowed are definitely not limited by time. That is possible only under red flag conditions after the race starts.

Sorry, perhaps I wasn't clear. I meant that there are plenty of changes you can make during qualifying where the only limiting factor is having time to do it and still get your driver out to do his laps, not some enforced time limit.

A chance to turn a zero into a hero, or indeed, the other way around, and more rain is predicted within the qualy hour according to Heikki's engineer.

it is because this car is soooo sensitive that when it is scorching it works, when it is cold or smn spilled glass of water on racing line then it is all over
