2012 - Brazilian GP race - TITLE DECIDER!

Qualifying times here;
Will be interesting to see what Grosjean can do - he has to prove himself worthy of a seat for next year. And of course, what can Alonso do? I think he might have wet-weather setup, which is why he was a tad slow today.

The title looks to be all but wrapped up, but rain tomorrow could throw a spanner in the works. I'm really just hoping for a cracking race to close out a very long but very entertaining season.

Doesn't Vettel also have a slightly wet set-up? I think so, just to play it safe. Anyway didn't Eddie Jordan say he thinks Alonso will take it tomorrow? I doubt it, but that way people will definitely watch it. We can expect some chaos, I hope so.
I would imagine he does, like all of them, but there was no doubt only having the 1 high pressure lap there, he would've left a bit on the table... as the gap to Webber showed

What's the weather forecast for race time tomorrow?
It doesn't matter anyway since those things are never accurate. I'm hearing 60% rain for now.

2 schools of thought, 1 suggesting hardly any rain after 9am, and 1 suggesting frequent showers.

Weather still hard to predict with 100% certainty but looks like it could be a 2008 type affair, showers but potentially long spells between them. Could be a wet-dry race which i would love, all about being on the right tyre at the right time and the driver making the difference in tricky conditions. Touch wood thats the case!
Beaten to it!

I think 'wet to dry' isn't all that difficult. One guy takes the biggest risk and he may fail (track is still too wet for slicks), or he might put some good laptimes in, and then the whole field will simply change tyres.
Varying conditions have my preference dry with short spells of heavy rain, so some people may stay out on slicks (with huge risks/gains).

Brazilian commentators on Globo said that rain starts Sunday midday during the qualifying broadcast.

Massa doesn't need anything for the race tomorrow. Max 2 litter petrol will be good enough for him. Looking forward to seeing his big balls.

He really just needs to get to 1st and then put some pressure on finger boy and let the race come to him.
The main problem: Fernando can't even get to 3rd.

Guys, Fernando doesn't really, really need that much... If he's leading, with the two Mcs, and Massa or Webber in between that's it. I know, Webber would give the position to Vettel, but everyone keeps thinking that it's such a far-fetched sequence of events... it really isn't.
Ferrari didnt look too good in Q1 when it was wet so he might not be leading

I honestly thought it didn't until I saw Vettel make a huge mistake today during qualifying.
If the race starts out chaotic, wet or not, Alonso has a very good chance.
Vettel wouldn't be able to pass the Mcs and he'd be mighty stupid to try anything on Massa.

I have a gut feeling that 99% of the WDC is going to be decided in the first 2 laps of the 2012 Brazilian GP.
What?
The championship is decided or not If Alonso slips in the shower of his hotel tonight and breaks his leg, it's already decided.

Yep but alonso still has to find his way to first somehow...

Will be an interesting race. I don't buy into the fact that there will be a big difference between those on 'wet setup' and 'dry setup' as Lewis for example was still quick when the track was at its wettest in Q1

Hmm, my setup in F1 (nearly identical sector times with the real thing) has low downforce Game got it wrong then I suppose ;p but I won over a second back in the final sector on top speed on most online competitors, losing a few tenths in the middle.

How did Hulks pole lap come along then two years ago?

Well at least the 2012 title is going to be decided in the 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix, and not the 2011 or 2013 Brazilian Grand Prix.

How did Hulks pole lap come along then two years ago?
He went hell for leather even on his out lap to get as much heat as possible into the tyres, which led to more grip, which led to a quicker laptime. It wasn't purely down to setup.

I think he was the first on slicks then - he stayed on them longer. For the rest, who eventually went to slicks, there wasn't as much time to get heat in the tyres and used to the track on them.

Maybe thinking back at 2011, Sebastian is so worried about his gearbox that he ends up taking it too easy.
Now that would be a kicker.

And I honestly think Lewis would let Alonso pass if push came to shove.
And if Alonso won the title because of that it would be tainted. Simple as that. I don't think Lewis would do that though.

The downforce maybe but I think spring settings can make quite a difference in terms of what the front end is doing - Senna's general decrease in relative pace through quali for example

Yep exactly, Hulk took the risk of going on slicks earlier.
Everyone always forgets that even without his pole winning lap, his previous lap was still fast enough for pole (he set two consecutive laps good enough for pole, the latter was nearly 1 second better showing the advantage of having warmer tyres on an increasingly more grippier circuit).

Scary thought.
In just a few short hours we will be in the dreaded "off season".
You know - where they dont have a race for millenia (or at least decades, or some equally long period of time) and you have to flick back though old magazines, and have endless discussions about when teams willl reveal new cars, and what will happen in preseason testing. Some of us may resort to dusting off some old video tapes. Some of us may not visit this forum for weeks on end.
Its a sad sad time. And so soon.
So soon.

But according to Schumi, it does make a difference whether you are on wet or dry set-up.Marko said they took a wet race into account in their setup. It doesn't make much difference nowadays though.
