How would you like to see the grid?

For me;

Red Bull:
Perez
Maldonado

Mclaren:
Hulkenberg
de Vries

Ferrari:
Alonso
da Costa

Lotus:
Vettel
Raikkonnen

Mercedes:
Hamilton
Valsecchi

Sauber:
Grosjean
Frijns

Force India:
Rosberg
Bianchi

Scuderia Torro Rosso:
Massa
Magnussen (Kevin)

Caterham
Button
Rossi (Alexander)

Marussia
Petrov
vd Garde

I think a championship like that would be amazing :p I'd be really curious to what Maldonado could do in a Red Bull, or what Button can do in a Caterham. Or Massa in a STR. And as a Dutchman I can't wait for the arrival of de Vries and Frijns.

What's yours? I'd like to know!

I really have only 2(or 3) wishes.
  • Hamilton and Vettel in RBR or Hamilton and Alonso in Ferrari
  • Kubica back in no matter what team

Edit: Oh, and lol at Button or Webber in Caterham. Don't be so harsh, people

I put Button in a Caterham cause I think he'd score some actual points then. I'd love to see what he can do in it. In a rain/dry race he might put Caterham on a really good position.

Red Bull:
Raikkonen
(Some driver RB tested)

Razia, Ricciardo, Da Costa, Vergne, etc, i almost don't car as long as Kimi is there, it's the only way i would like Red Bull as a F1 Team.

Scuderia Toro Rosso:
(Some driver RB tested)
(Some driver RB tested)

I don't care about this team at all.

Mclaren:
Button
Perez

This just sounds right, two very similar drivers.

Ferrari:
Alonso
Vettel

Make it happend, i want to see both on the same car. A dream team.

Lotus:
Bruno Senna
Rubens Barrichello

All brazillian team. Experience from Rubens and Bruno learning, i believe Williams would have been better with this combination for 2012.

Mercedes:
Rosberg
Hulkenberg

Its a good lineup. Germans, i rate them at the same level: very good drivers.

Sauber:
Massa
Kobayashi

Really liked to see both on the podium en Suzuka. A competent midfield team with good drivers.

Williams:
Hamilton
Maldonado

Sir Frank Williams said he wanted Hamilton on his team. This combination would be fantastic, if the car allows you will have front row lock out almost guaranteed!

Force India:
Sutil
Bottas

So that we get Sutil back in FI and the finn gets a chance to prove himself.

Caterham:
Pic
Bianchi

With Renault engines, a "French national team".

Marussia:
Petrov
Glock

This makes sense, experienced driver adapted to the team plus russian driver.

HRT
De la Rosa
Alguersuari

Well...i ended up with a lot of teams with drivers from the same nationality. This could be beneficial, better environment, sponsorship.

Been done before.
And Heidfeld walked all over Massa.
But Massa got the Ferrari drive.

I would like to see;
Kimi and Alonso in a RedBull ..Fire and ice
Hamilton and Kobayashi in a Ferrari ..Crash and burn
Button and Barrichello in an STR ..Falling asleep
Glock and Bottas at Sauber ..Steady and unknown
Maldonado and Grosjean at Mercedes ..to pay the repair bills
Vettel and Hulkenberg at McLaren ..They've never had a German
Kubica and Sutil at Lotus ..Two rebirths
Webber and Massa in HRT ..One to support the other teamate
and Danika Patrick and Nico Rosberg at Marussia ..Just to see if we can tell the difference

Can't be bothered trying to do a whole grid.

Best three drivers in F1 are Alonso, Hamiton & Vettel (So as not to start any arguments I have listed them in alphabetical order).

Just to see who is actually the best, I'd like to see them in this years cars...but Vettel at Ferrari, Alonso at Macca and Hamilton at RBR.

As for the rest, leave them where they are. Change nothing else and let's just see what happens

Interesting subject! :)

Let me explain how I'm gonna approach this:

The proven very top guys get the top cars, of course. The rest of the top seats go to young drivers who deserve the chance to prove themselves as possible future stars as well as some known benchmarks to measure them against. The midfield drives go to less proven (but still promising) young drivers and proven solid journeymen. The bottom grid seats go to drivers who are less promising/proven than the midfield ones, but still deserve a seat. The bottom ones will be reserved for less proven young drivers and some benchmarks to compare them to.

Group one, the top teams:

I would put Hamilton and Alonso in the Ferraris, because it would be entertaining. Vettel would go to Mclaren, as I would like to see him in a different team to see how he would handle it. Then I'd keep Button there as a known benchmark. Kimi would be promoted to Red Bull, and be paired with the Hulk. I'm well aware that the top three might DESERVE the Red Bull seats more, but this would be more interesting. :) The final top seats would be Lotus, and here I would give the chance to Perez, who would be paired with a known benchmark like Webber.

Group two:

I'm a bit on the edge regarding if Mercedes fits in this group or the previous one, but whatever... Rosberg can stay, and let's pair him with... MALDONADO! He has shown some genuine speed, and Merc has more potential than Willams. Than we have Sauber. Let's give Romain one more chance to clean up his driving in a solid car. Pair him with Di Resta to see who comes out on top. The Force India seats can go to Massa (who now deserves to stay in F1) and Kobayashi. The winner here deserves to move up the grid later. Bottas will get his well deserved Williams seat, and would be paired with a solid experienced journeyman. How about Heikki? The final non "new team" seats are the Torro Rosso ones. Charles Pic will get one, and Vitaly Petrov gets the other.

Group three:

The Caterham seats go to Verge and Ricciardo. Hard to tell if they are any good, and the better seats are already taken, so... Let them battle it out at Caterham. Glock can keep his Marussia seat, and let's pair him with Bianchi, who I have some doubts about, but let's give it a shot. The final seats (assuming HRT still exists next year would go to Valsecchi (he won in GP2 after all). He must be paired with a descent and proven driver for it to make any sense, and here I would go for someone line Sutil.

So, to sum it up:

Red Bull: Kimi and the Hulk
Ferrari: Alonso and Hamilton
Mclaren: Vettel and Button
Lotus: Perez and Webber
Mercedes: Rosberg and Maldonado
Sauber: Di Resta and Grosjean
Force India: Massa and Kobayashi
Williams: Bottas and Heikki
Torro Rosso: Pic and Petrov
Caterham: Vergne and Ricciardo
Marussia: Glock and Bianchi
HRT: Valsecchi and Sutil

Red Bull : António Felix da Costa / Kimi Raikkonen
Portugal get our potential world champion and Kimi the car he's dreamed of for years.

Ferrari : Robert Kubica / Alvaro Parente
A back-to-fitness Rob is given the chance that was robbed from him with the crash, and the forgotten Alvaro is Portugal's other potential winner albeit hopefully both wouldn't settle into becoming #2s!

McLaren : Lewis Hamilton / Nick Heidfeld
Not a fan of Lewis but he is a worthy opponent and wins are sweeter if you beat worthy opponents. Besides I've got a soft spot for Mac and this would be a very strong lineup. I've had a suspicion for years Nick would be the perfect #2 and he'd deserve the chance for years of bad luck in the driver market.

Lotus : Nico Hulkenberg / Mark Webber
Rising star Nico gets a better car and a proper measuring stick.

Mercedes : Nico Rosberg / Robin Frijns
I really don't like Merc but their current team is so bland. A massively quick youngster with a huge attitude problem would spice them up and make them the ultimate Darth Vader team.

Sauber : Jenson Button / Sérgio Perez
The tyre management experts in the car that excels at it.

Williams : Fernando Alonso / Sebastian Vettel
If this wouldn't lift up Williams, what would? We'd get the ultimate measure for Seb - how does he handle a top team-mate, and how does he handle a rather mediocre car? This would also be fun for the season-long evil laughs I'd be able to poke at both for their inevitable whining at the car.

Force India : Romain Grosjean / Jaime Alguersuari
Romain gets a lesser pressure environment to shine thanks to a more manageable team-mate after facing 2 champions. Jaime deserves to be back in F1 and in a relatively decent car.

Toro Rosso : Daniel Ricciardo / Felipe Massa
Another promising youngster I'd like to see against a seasoned measuring stick - altho Felipe's wildly fluctuating form might make that difficult.

Caterham : Pastor Maldonado / Will Power
I don't like Pastor but his mighty pace has to be in the grid. We get to see just how good are the current Indycar stars too, by measuring their best road course driver.

Marussia : Kamui Kobayashi / Timo Glock
Neither deserve to drop out of F1.

Prodrive : Jules Bianchi / Paul di Resta
New team to make it 26 cars. di Resta is good enough to be on the grid, and Bianchi whilst always slightly disappointing is still rather quick and it'd be very interesting to know exactly how quick.

HRT : Adrian Sutil / Jean-Eric Vergne
I'm sorry to Kovalainen, Petrov, Bottas and whatever other drivers I can't think of now, but these are the remainder 2 that most deserve to be in F1.

IRBR: Vettel, Raikkonen (will Vettel need rehab after half a season?)
McLaren: Hamilton, Button (really like this balls and brains pair)
Ferrari: Webber, Massa (underdogs unleashed)
Lotus: Kovalainen, Glock (2nd chance for the guys shafted by Toyota)
Mercedes: Rosberg, Hulkenberg (Teutonic dream team)
Williams: Maldonado, Bottas (Maldo because he won that one race, Bottas 'cause I'm Finnish - fingers crossed he's quick too)
Sauber: Kobayashi, Barrichello (Rubens seems to want to come back and I like how his name is spelled)
STR: Ricciardo, Da Costa (A. Felix da Costa to jump to IRBR when Kimi retires or is too hung over to drive)
FI: DiResta, Sutil (still no Indian drivers)
Caterham: Alonso, Senna (Caterham needs Fernando's 6 tenths to join the midfield, Senna there to pay Fernando's retainer)
Marussia: Calado, Petrov (Calado seems to be a genuine talent, Petrov because of his hot mum)

I really don't have an "ideal grid" in mind, perhaps just one without paydrivers (no problem with bringing sponsors, my beef is with giving seats only because of a given sponsor).

But I'd like to see Alguersuari and Kimi in Lotus. It would be like really cool, and I think they both would get along really well.

My ideal grid would include not only changed driver line-up in each team, but also some diferrent teams participating in F1. This is it:

McLaren
1. Sebastian Vettel
2. Jerome d'Ambrosio
Ferrari
3. Nico Rosberg
4. Jenson Button
Lotus
5. Lewis Hamilton
6. Pastor Maldonado
Sauber
7. Fernando Alonso
8. Sergio Perez
Williams
9. Nico Hulkenberg
10. Valtteri Bottas
Caterham
11. Heikki Kovalainen
12. Daniel Ricciardo
Marussia
14. Vitaly Petrov
15. Nick Heidfeld
Tyrell
16. Alexander Wurz
17. Esteban Guerreri
Jordan
18. Mark Webber
19. Sebastien Bourdais
Arrows
20. Adrian Sutil
21. Paul di Resta
Ligier
22. Romain Grosjean
23. Charles Pic
Spyker
24. Giedo van der Garde
25. Robin Frijns
Minardi
26. Christian Klien
27. Kevin Korjus

And all of the teams being able to fight at least for minor points and Q2 most of the time if driver is doing a proper job.

Unrealistically:

McLaren
Hamilton
Hulkenberg

Red Bull
Vettel
Button

The rest can more or less stay the same.

I tried another grid now, with all drivers from the 1980s to now:

Ferrari : M. Schumacher / G. Villeneuve
McLaren-Honda : Senna / Hamilton
Williams-Renault : Prost / Mansell
Benetton-Renault : Alonso / Raikkonen
Red Bull-Renault : Vettel / Montoya
Brawn-Mercedes : Button / Lauda
Brabham-BMW : Piquet / D. Hill
Lotus-Honda : Hakkinen / K. Rosberg
Sauber-Mercedes : Kubica / J. Villeneuve
Ligier-Renault : Arnoux / Pironi
Jordan-Ford : Frentzen / Barrichello
Minardi-Ferrari : Reutemann / Webber
Arrows-BMW : Berger / Jones
Tyrrell-Honda : Alesi / Alboreto
Toyota : Coulthard / R. Schumacher
Dallara-Ferrari : Patrese / Massa

That's 32 cars already, all grand prix winners. Good luck even trying to qualify. Then there's Watson, Tambay, Boutsen, Nannini, de Angelis, Warwick, Brundle, Bellof, Herbert, Trulli, Nico Rosberg, waiting in the sidelines...

Exactly where I was going to go with my post and then thought I'd better check no-one else had.

Now wouldn't this be something! We can argue about which specific drivers should be in there - I think you're missing Jackie Stewart for example - but what a prospect indeed

Given the sturdy nature displayed by the Red Bull at Interlagos I think it's safe enough to pair Kurt Bush with Grosjean or Maldonado.

I also would have loved to see Piquet Sr. with Kimi.

I just wish Alonso and Vettel didn't have the advantage of pairing with a dead fish and actually felt insecure about their standing in the team like Lewis obviously did this season, which is he is now running from apparently...I dunno, I just wish we could get an actual rivalry within a team instead of the ubiquitous Big Brother/Little Brother pairings that have become so commonplace. The only other team battles that interested me this season were Perez/Koba and Hulk/DiResta.

In a fantasy world based purely on competitive team battles, I'd say:

McLaren
Lewis Hamilton & Sebastian Vettel

Ferrari
Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen

Red Bull
Jenson Button & Mark Webber

Mercedes
Nico Hulkenburg & Nico Rosberg

Enstone
Pastor Maldonado & Romain Grosjean

Sauber
Felipe Massa & Rubens Barrichello

Williams
Heikki Kovalainen & Kamui Kobayashi

Force India
Paul DiResta & Sergio Perez
