I think we saw how it was possible at the end of the clip - as Ogier moved forward, the gate started to close again. It should have been secured open but either wasn't or came loose. Was he running first on the road? If so, maybe some spectator misbehaviour?

Nope, he was actually quite down the order. He was the last of the WRCars. It could be whatever was holding the gate got loose when Mikko drove through, but there are good chances some idiot thought the rally was boring because of Ogier's advantage.

I wonder how much more coverage will WRC2 get due to Robert.

I'm not expecting too much. When Kimi joined the WRC I remember 2 items in the papers, and that was about his disaffection for F1, and not the WRC.

I saw a tweet from Colin Clark at his delight that the Kubica/ WRC was mentioned on the BBCSports breaking news ticker....... However, lets be realistic, it said "F1 driver Kubica will do the WRC2..... "

Well Kimi didn't get much more coverage than normal and he was doing the actual wrc. And he's a former F1 champ......

True, but Kimi wasn't making a comeback similar to Robert (marketing value is bigger imho).

Though I'm not expecting anything TBH.

King Seb is dead, long live King Seb. Seems if you want your son to kick almighty ass on four wheels there's only one name to go with :stoned:

Kinda humiliating for the other drivers... they are all so far and beaten by a driver who was did a full year in S2000 and in a new car ^^. I know Ogier is really good, but the other just look like rookies
Loeb is still 2nd and Ogier got now 44 more points than Hirvonen.

Any theories on RRC vs S2000? In Norway it looked like the RRC had a slight advantage. That might be down to the fact that the Fiesta and DS3 are quite a bit newer than the S2000 cars.

Well, Breen and Kopecky are IMO the only really competitive drivers on the list. Obviously Robert could be one as well but he's still a wildcard.

I'd agree but if Robert will compete with Kopecky, we won't need more drivers to draw conclusions ;) Looking forward to see awesome fight between Kopecky and KopeckyFAN :}

Itinerary of the Islas Canarias:
http://www.rallyisla...p/es/itinerario

local time is GMT and not CET. I suppose, they have used local time for the itinerary and not Spanish peninsular time (but it's written nowhere)

It remains a shame that Bouffier couldn't make it in de end. Still a nice entry though. I expect the entry for the Acores to be better though - there will be live TV from that event.

One of the problems for me in Mexico is that I was driving the car too sideways. I have to learn to drive it more straight, more like a front-wheel-drive car. This isn't my style; I drive with the car sliding – sometimes even before the corner! But that doesn't work so well now, we have to be more neat and tidy.

And I'm going to be working on that when we test in Portugal next week.

I don't get it... when did he start driving in WRC? he sounds a like a first year. (It's a quote from Hirvonen btw)

Kubica had 7 runs through shakedown, I think that's more than most other drivers.

Edit: Kopecky did 4, Breen and Ancian 6.

But he did his best time during 5 run. Anyway, he said in an interview that he wanted to make kilometers, that's why he did 7 runs.

Kinda early don't you think.

And the same time on the 7th. Anyway, there are probably no-one that doubts Kubicas speed. However, the Shakedown is very short, and run many times - and as a former circuit driver, it can be expected to see Kubica be fast on such stages.

He might be just as quick on the long stages that you don't learn the same way, or not. And that's the interesting part.

And trees and buildings and kerbs and drains and spectators and cars.....
And don't forget that reasonably sized drop into the valley!

It's rally. It's impossible to take out all possible risks like they are trying to do in F1. It's just how it is.

Agreed, neither possible or desirable....

But certain things are just stupid (like having giant skewers lining on the roadside) when it's such a relatively easy fix - particularly in light of two high-profile specifically gaurdrail-end related incidents in the past couple season. When it's a question of bad design, laziness, and penny-pinching (of a supposed safety feature) I think it's worth complaining about...

Kopecky medium and soft slicks - rear/front
Kubica medium and soft slicks - left/right

And still he claims he drives very carefully and is not happy about his tyres.

If he manage to finish this rally like this, he will make a joke of everybody - this is almost indecent so far! ;)

Kubica must have a different concept of "being careful" and "just gaining experience". Still, with Kopecky's record in rallying, I would trust his idea of taking care more than Robert's. Keeping my fingers crossed, but there is no glory in being 10 minutes ahead of the field if you do not finish.

If he does finish, this will be great and it won't go unnoticed.

By the way, the radio commentator calling Robert "Kubitzka" is somewhat annoying
