there seems to be a discussion over next year's WRC callendar. Interesting read, even though a bit unrealistic IMO: http://www.maxrally....-jerry-williams

Is there any problem with Rally Finland next year?
I mean, the article says the Monte and the Acropolis are the only world wide famous rallies next year. Have they cancelled the 'Thousand Lakes', the writer had a brain fade or are we very weird in my country? Rally Finland is probably the most famous rally around here.

Thanks!
I was beginning to worry they had cancelled the rally (and I had missed the news)

Oh, come on, he started rallying in 2010! I hope you're not gonna give the Barbórka event example - I would really appreciate i f you aren't! :p Who said he is TOTAL rookie - not on asphalt at least! He's total rookie on loose surface, isn't he? He has a new co-driver either, hasn't he? At last - he DIDN'T crash in Corsica!

We won't. I mean, after all, he did one rally in 05 as well :cat:

No, I would say 2009 was the year he started. But he does test quite a lot, and much of the talk about him is OTT. I have nothing against Kubica at all, you just tend to get slightly fed up when there is OTT support :)

In 2005 he had a zero car, it was a good test but a one-off - is it really fair to tell he's been rallying/testing for many(8) years? In 2010, I meant, he had a complete, essential season - there were ten-odd rallies, I believe /including a one or two events from November 2009/.
I know you are not against Kubica :) but I am also getting tired while reading superficial opinions. Can tests really substitute for real games? In tests he can try new setup, I believe. Kubica as any classy driver doesn't lack technical* skills but he must improve assessment skills in sudden-change situations. In tests, a few km after one knows a short route very well.

EDIT: * driving techniques

Also, Kościuszko is switching from mini to fiesta - but he will not be in Greece.

Hayden Paddon will be in Ypres with a Fabia S2000, Loix is very unsure if he will start.

And, of course, both Thierry Neuville in a Fiesta R5 and Kris Meeke in a Peugeot 208 T16 R5 will be running as zero cars. Quite amazing.

Yes, a bit strange that the 2 zero cars can be more interesting than the rally itself! :drunk:

Isn't that what the Acropolis Rally is supposed to be about? Maybe we will get lucky and some cars will fail and we get a surprise winner.

Actually. I seem to remember reading something about "Citroën might have found a new guy to replace Loeb". And "Kubica should replace Latvala in VW".

So, we, that are fans of other rally drivers than Kubica, or actually a fan of the sport, not any drivers or teams (as, quite frankly, there are just boring teams with boring drivers these days) - we cannot compare Kubica to Kopecky, Breen & Co? How should we compare him to other drivers then? Kubica do have quite a lot of rally experience for a non-rally professional, and he have tested quite a lot as well.

The Latvala part might be a good idea though! In today's rally the old saying needs to be updated to a new form: If you wan't to win, fire a Finn!

Have to agree with that... Mikko doesn't quite have the pace to beat Ogier and JML keeps making silly mistakes. :( But fortunately there is EP Lappi coming, he would be my bet for next Finnish WDC.

Yup, let's fire one fast guy that crashes, with one, not as fast, but that crashes just as much.

He stopped just after start. But he hasn't completed yet so we don't know why, although the guys at WRR suspect a puncture.

E: And a slow split for Ogier now, 1:15 down

The wheel fell off? How can a wheel fall off? It looks more like a F1 hysteric pit-stop problem than something that could ever happen in rallying.
Ostberg is seriously jinxed

Impressive Novikov, BTW

This is pure speculation but since the whell fell just after start, maybe they changed tires before the start and didn't tighten the wheelnuts properly.

If that's true, I expect him to drive, from now on, with a post-it on the dashboard saying "don't forget to tighten the nuts"

Crazy rally, really crazy rally.

I wonder how many cars will finish on Sunday.

And Ogier will start tomorrow under Rally2.

At this rate, it's going to be one of those rallies where drivers under Rally2 end up well into the points.

Ogier can be in top5 easily. And Hirvonen is in an interesting situation as he lost almost 6 minutes in the stage. If he now retires he will be a minute behind Ogier which is completely wrong since he managed to complete the stage.

BTW, what a wonderful evening, chatting with artista about rallying.

Isn't the penalty for retiring in the last stage of the day 10 minutes?
It's one of the silly thing of Rally2. A driver that does the stages might end up behind somebody who didn't.
Anyway, good that there is Rally2 or the rally could end up without enough cars to hand out points.

Shh! don't tell. I'm supposed to be working at the moment
yeah, it's being great fun!

From Autosport Live:

Fri 18:06 Acropolis Rally: M-Sport has despatched somebody to find the left-front wheel from Ostberg's car, but it appears the wheel broke leaving wheel nuts attached. Ostberg understandably distraught.

No I didn't mean that. I meant this: Fri 18:06 Acropolis Rally: M-Sport has despatched somebody to find the left-front wheel from Ostberg's car, but it appears the wheel broke leaving wheel nuts attached. Ostberg understandably distraught.

For some reason when I quoted artista's post it didn't take that part.

Novikov and Latvala tie for the win of SS3. Novikov is certainly not backing off! He still leads by 39.1 seconds.

Edit: DRAMA! Novikov off the road in sector 1 of SS4! He's lost three minutes and the lead.
