Dead easy thread to follow. We all know one of the best ways to know if you're truly nuts about car racing is whether or not you get goosebumps listening to a racing car, and this thread is here for anyone who wants to contribute - if you've come across a truly remarkable video on Youtube or some other site of late, post it up here. The only requirements are that the sounds you hear make the hairs on your neck stand on end.

I'll start us off with a few of my dusted-off old favorites:

Max Papis' Toyota Camry NASCAR at Monza.

GT cars at Spa.

Georg Plasa's BMW hillclimb car in 2011.

Lamborghini Murcielago RS-V hillclimb.

McLaren F1 GTR - we all know the longtail Macca looks better, but the sound..

Matech Symphony (Ford GT, GT1 series).

Audi Quattro still has it.

That's enough from me, time to hear from you! Please remember this thread whenever your Youtube adventures bring you across something worthy of a mention here. Don't be shy!

Cheers,

Andrew

I haven't seen many videos that really capture the awesomeness of hearing racing cars in person, but this one is pretty amazing.... The BRM V-16 in action....

Also this one, the Matra V-12 in action, apart from Lola T-70's this is possibly the greatest Racing car sound I've ever heard in real life......

Saw 2 of those Matra's at Silverstone this year. Ear bleedingly good.

The sound that got me into motorsport: Ferrari F1 V12

I'd post up a link to a Top Fuel/NFC vid but to be honest the sound just never comes across anywhere near well enough on vids. Need to hear it for yourself in person!

The Acura ARX-02a. Hands down. Seen here at 4:00. It's hard to tell how unique that sound is from the video, but every time I hear it, I get chills.

The HPD ARX-03a sounds very similar, and quite fantastic as well, in my opinion. Can't find a good video of it, though.

The sounds of the Hunaudieres (Mulsanne Straight to you and me), circa 1988. Everything from rotaries to Cosworth V8s, turbo sixes, monstrous Jag V12s.

My latest crush: high-performance hybrids firing up while in motion.

Toyota's Le Mans Prototype leaving the pits
Porsche 918 (skip to 3:20 for the sound)

I love stuff like Kobayashi in Japan (12), Webber in Australia (02), Massa in Brazil (08) when you can hear the crowd above the cars.

gotta be the BRM V16

listen to the newest clip of that, volume up nice and loud, and it truly shakes your soul, pure mechanical aural bliss

you actually get excited listening to that track, hearing the car in the distance, you know its coming to roar past the mic, and you can't wait for it to get there

**NEW** BRM V16 Sound

If I'm ever priviliged enough in life to have a Jay Leno style garage, this would in it

I'd go for 1989 race to include the Merc V8 Turbo's (although they did practice in '88)... having stood on hangar straight and watching at paddock hill back in the day and listened to the variety live was great! Nothing sounds as good as the 7.0L Jag though ;)

Although the Ferrari engined LC2 in '86 was good live too, while it lasted...

However, living in Bourne I have to say I have a soft spot for the sound of the BRM's!

A lasting memory for me was hearing the 1000cc F2 Brabham Honda for the first time back in the 60's. To my ears it has made the Cosworth SCA sound so flat ever since. And it was so loud....
