So, pretty much what we all expected then.

This link might not work for anyone not on the Motor Sport e-mailing list, but Nigel Roebuck's opinions are both interesting and amusing on the utter detachment of some in F1 from what goes on in the real/outside world, both that and their delusion that the world revolves around them.

It would appear that in the case of the F.o.S, it does.

Glad to see that the Earl of March has avoided a clash with Cholmondley PoP which I am sure will be a relief Up North.

I must say it seems an awful amount of fuss over a demonstation up a carriageway!

 ;)

That's a very dismissive way to talk about the events Bernie stages.

Terribly sorry but as I get older I do tend to have become more judgemental and both Eff Wun and the FoS have little interest. I do watch Eff Wun on the gogglebox and do enjoy the occasion races but in general I don't approve of the contrived elements that have been introduced. As for the so called Festival of Speed it does tend to clash with proper motor sport events. If there ever was a year when it didn't I might just drag my arse down there but would probably spend all my time in the paddock.

I think this is maybe the first time that the FoS has not clashed with the Masters Festival at Brands Hatch. Over the years I have always got the impression that FoS takes a few cars and drivers away from the Masters event - and thus some of the edge aswell. A couple of years ago Historic F1 were at the Festival and the grid was depleted to say the least - Classic Team Lotus were at the FoS and had been taking 3 F1 cars to Brands previoiusly.
At that meeting we had the `visitors` from down under so the spectacle of 30+ F5000 monsters racing into Paddock Hill Bend made up for the F1 race. As yet the FIA HFO dates haven`t been released for 2013 so I wait in anticipation, hoping that there will be a chance to see them more often han not because of date changes. The FoS has become a great event on the Calendar for many people and for it to clash with other events must be terrible, but value for money says the FoS takes priority..

The Masters meeting is usually held in late May. FOS has clashed with the HSCC Superprix at Brands for several years. I was unable to attend the Superprix this year but did marshal at the Masters. Grids were very disappointing.

...... :drunk: ...once again I stand corrected...cheers opplock  !!! It most certainly is the Superprix that normally clashes. The last time the F1 race was reasonably attended was when the Brands Hatch circuit celebrated 50 years of the GP circuit  . If only the big Historic Events looked at the calendar and got their heads together, the year would be full of events to attend without double dating. One day I hope to get to more meetings and Goodwood is on the wishlist!

Ummm - well actually, since this is purely between ourselves, Doug Hill of the NMM at Beaulieu was demonstrating just how much Vodafone McLaren had enjoyed their week in Melbourne. Oh, and Muddly had just made a very good point about how tiny the Renault Turbo F1 cars of 1977-78 look today, dwarfed by these vulgar great chrome-plated aerodynes deployed today...

If you're nearly 6 feet tall has Murray put on some height lately?

Murray is getting younger and sharper every year......try THIS bit of amateur video posted on the website of a local paper.

Doug Hill, eh.................did you ask him why this car still has the ugly non-original wrongly-shaped nose?

(BTW, bit odd to see two black Ford GT MkIIs, the real one (I think) on the hill and the lookalike in the background here.)

General admission on Saturday or Sunday is £57, so not doubled. Admission/grandstand package prices are about double this.

Normally the Goodwood website has a list available by now, but I can't see one this time.

There's an ad in the For Sale and Wanted forum offering tickets for all four days:

It's been up a couple of days now, so they may well have gone.

Can't really rely on ebay or a 1-post poster - I'm going to be in court in sunny London most of next week. So I can't do any chasing if they don't arrive, or go to pick them up.

Looking like it'll have to be Revival instead. As long as I don't get another bloody test case. You wait a decade for one to come along, and then you get three at once...

I know I've asked this before - but I've forgotten the answer! Can anybody recommend a route from, say, Croydon? The different routefinders give various options with precious little difference in the time, so it comes down to which gets into the FoS quickest. I generally use the A285 from Petworth but was wondering if anyone can suggest a better way.

This from Lord March:

(describing the past 20 years) "Entry was £4, and the estimated crowd of 2,500 turned into over 27,000 spectators, with the entrance money being stored in a caravan! Twenty years on, over 185,000 fans will be coming to Goodwood to join Lord March and a Stella line-up of motor sport greats."

A new event sponsor? I think we should be told! :)

Well, won some, lost some...but the ones we lost are going to be disastrous for the party that thinks they've won.

Kind of like getting off a shoplifting charge because they were committing murder elsewhere.
