A very Happy Christmas to all at TNF.
(and I hope that this year no-one ends up with the Tibballs book as a Christmas prezzie)
If the end of the world is nigh is it too late to bid on the 105 alfa on ebay or should I wait till the 22/12/12?

I wanted to send some sort of holiday greeting to my friends and colleagues, but it is difficult in today's world to know exactly what to say without offending someone. So I met with my lawyer yesterday, and on her advice I wish to say the following:
Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non addictive, gender neutral celebration of the summer solstice holiday practised with the most enjoyable traditions of religious persuasion or secular practices of your choice with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practise religious or secular traditions at all.
I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2013, but not without due respect for the calendar of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make our country great (not to imply that Australia is necessarily greater than any other country) and without regard to the race, creed, colour, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee .
By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms:
This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/him or others and is void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. The wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year or until the issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher.
Best Regards ( without prejudice )

(a) it's going to be 105 F on Xmas Day; and
(b) The Swan/Emu brewery has brewed its last brew. Closed, gone.
Now we have only the boutique breweries left, and the Swan and Emu brands will be brewed at Southwark Brewery in South Oz, famous for its Southwark Lager, aka Brain Damage in a Can.
And no, I don't own the grey stately home on wheels in the background.

[Terry, you will have to celebrate the season with the other SA beer, Coopers. ]
Aaaah Coopers. Quite a few years ago I was on an official visit to Coopers Brewery, and at the end of the working day the brewery workers gathered in the brewery's own bar, and Mr Cooper himself pulled the beers for everyone. A family business indeed. And a nice drop too.

This is starting to sound like the annual tipplers' convention so I might as well add that I've just laid in a few bottles of another fine Coopers product for Christmas;[Terry, you will have to celebrate the season with the other SA beer, Coopers. ]
