I don't understand why they didn't test DRS before the race, when the car leave the garage for the grid. If they have tested the DRS, they could see before the race that it was not working.

It was working for a few laps. It failed on lap 6 didn't it?

So you would have prefer the softer tyres? Imagine how many times Massa would have had to come in :rotfl:

Suck it up what destroyed your race was you inefficient DRS and Pirelli poor tyres.

Yea, DRS was a bit 'inefficient' on Alonso's car.

I was amazed that Alonso was able to go through the corners as quick as he was with his DRS open! Shows how much of the downforce comes from the underside of the car.

How could they know that problem will persist...?what happened if they didn't use it from fear throughout the race and then find out that it was working again...?
they had to take the risk so early on the race...it is their ill luck that it didn't work...

That's the frikking risk you NEED to take for crying out loud!!!

No mate, the DRS never worked, i failed at lap 3 but Alonso made 3 laps with DRS open, Di Resta didn't have a shot to overtake him. It awesome.

There is no need to cry over gap in points to leaders, it won't change anything.
We will win WCC&WDC !!
The championship is a long game, we will bounce back.

Yes I would have liked Raikkonen to win rather then Vettel. The tyres will get conservative like last year and we will get race on race win for Vettel. Now Alonso is dangerously too far away from him in the championship only after 4 rounds. Red bull best tracks have still to come!

So 'Yes' i would rather have Massa stops 5 times for Red Bull and Vettel to suffer in this early part of the championship!

This is the best I could find and it shows the pod to be static like last years but it's a more compact version. If that's true then them whacking it down should have been enough of a warning to tell them that it is no longer going to operate correctly and should have told him not to use it anymore.
I think Ferrari has a big issue with communicating critical information to their pitwall. Track side operations needs a rethink in the next 3 weeks as it's failing them badly this year. Parts not failing would be good as well but they should be able to handle whatever happens more efficiently.

It was certainly the case. It took ages for the sky commentators to realise. He drove at the very lest 2 laps with it wide open.

I use the DRS at lap 3, and then the DRS never close. When he overtake Di Resta, in live, i was thinking " how the hell Alonso slow like that, Di resta is just behind " and then i have seen the DRS stuck open. I was watching the race on Sky, and they only talk about the problem at lap 6 or 7 just before Alonso pitted for the first time.

But Alonso made 3 laps with his DRS stuck open, i can't wait to see the laptimes.

Sky commentators miss everything though. Well, that is quite impressive, because I didn't notice either. I just thought Ferrari's pace wasn't that great at the time.

This will balance itself out lads. Just like 2012.

According to Ted's notebook thing, it was the stoppers on the rear wing end plates that caused the issue. The wing went above them, then stopped it from returning and after they reset it the wing then went above the stoppers again.

So I guess the actuator was cleared so they felt like it could still be used.

Honestly it's a pity Alonso have not made the first stint like that, i don't think he would be blackflagged right ? A DRS failure is like a KERS failure or a FW failure like Massa had today right ?

Yeah Sky took an age to realize. I noticed as soon as I saw Vettel pulled out a huge gap in just a few sectors. Had to rub my eyes, IS IT JUST ME OR DRS REALLY OPEN RIGHT NOW?

Followed by a few expletives that would be inappropriate to mention here.

Sucks that in the 2 bad races Vettel has got full points. But one DNF for him and a win for Alonso and the margin will be down to virtually nothing.

I think on lap 3 when Alonso first tried to pass Rosberg down the front strait his DRS opened coming out of the final turn, as his DRS indicator was lit up way before Nico's was. But Alonso deactivated it well before the braking zone and let Nico back through.

What if it was a momentary failure?, that's something they didn't know, as I said it's easy to talk from the comfort of your sofa. I don't blame the team for trying, if you want to blame them or Alonso, go on.

It had already failed once and without investigating/understanding the cause I think you have to assume the worst case scenario. The reality is that one decision, or perhaps a mistake by Alonso himself, cost around 17 seconds, or the difference between finishing 5instead of 8th.

I agree that it's all well and good for us to sit at home and pass judgement and that these guys have to make decisions in he heat of battle, but in all honesty it seemed a bit silly to try drs again. Anyway, afaic, this shouldn't have failed it the first place, or should have had a preventative measure in place to prevent the wing from reversing

I know FL are not appropriate way of measurement speed of the cars since Pirelli went back to F1, but Alonso was 3rd with 1:37,204 form 41 lap, fastest Vettel 1:36,961 from lap 55.

Alonso did that with new tires though if I'm not mistaken. Just out of the pits. Vettel did that time after many laps on those tires. I know he was in clear air and all. Just pointing out the difference.

Alonso was putting in some good laps relative to those who had a 1s+ gap ahead of them (no DRS), and around lap 18 I recall seeing that only Vettel was faster than him by only a tenth or so, and this with tires that were older by a couple of laps.

It's tough now, seeing the standings, but this is something we can still fight back from. Remember 2010? Almost two race wins back from the lead of the WDC with half the season past, and came into the last race leading it. He really can rally the troops, and he's in at least a good a car as he was in back then. With some intervention from lady luck, which he's due, he can be right back in it in no time.

What really sucks is that both weekends after his misfortunes have been f*kin 3-weekers.

Brave face peeps, it's gonna be a long one.

Fastest lap in current form of racing means as much as the square root of jack.
