This optimism reminds me of 2011. Remember that year it was supposed to be a Ferrari-RB battle in Melbourne and when we got there... bam! 1.5 seconds off the pace.
So we sholud keep our expectations in check until Q3.

 5 teams are really close based on testing. Real race can change that.
The only thing that is really important is that they guys say the car handles well, which is good and that correlation is good. But aside from that, I'm trying to stay calm until FP1 at least.

EDIT:

“But the moment of truth will come next week in Australia, in qualifying. Today, what matters to me is knowing that I have done a good job and that I have got a good feeling from the car, which is well designed and also easier to drive than last year’s car.”

I've just watched some of the testing highlights. Was there any definitive explanation as to why the Ferrari lost it's wheelnut during testing?

You are right, but I think the team is more prepared and wary now than in 2011, and they openly said that the focus in the testing that year (2011) was wrong, plus the wind tunnel stuff. To be honest I don't see many people saying that we are going to win the first race, but everything points to a car that will not struggle to enter Q3. Even if the car it's better than the F2012, we can be the 4th or 5th quickest team. The best thing we can do is hope for the best but in a realistic way.

There will be a chat with Massimo Rivola this friday in Melbourne at midday central European time.

btw, I know expectation need to stay down, but I don't think watching the 2010 Bahrain GP was the best way to do that

True, but 2011 was an exceptional year. It wasn't so much that Ferrari wasn't on the pace, it was a case of no team being on the pace. Red Bull were in another league, courtesy of the blown diffuser.

At this point the regulations have been exploited pretty much to the maximum, there are very slim chances of a team finding magic performance like that.

The start of this season reminds me a bit of 2010 and hopefully we can finish the job this year. Good luck to all the boys and girls at Maranello! ForzaFerrari

That would be nice, but with 5 teams expected to be pretty much on the pace, and another couple not expected to be far from it, making Q3 every race is something that may be beyond everyone this year. Margins are likely to be pretty fine, and it might be unwise to predict anything being too easy, or to get too upset if an arbitrary target isn't hit straight away. Better to look at the overall picture than to hang it on things like 'easy Q3'.

He is not, just because a few people has tipped him up does not make him the fav before Australia. just pop into any bookies.

Im afraid its Vettel again by a mile at this point.

But the red beast does look solid this year so GL

I can see us in Q3 easy enough. We have 2 great drivers who now have a car that they are happy with, my confidence for the race and season to come is nice and high.

Might be not good enough. If it's as close as most people think, +0.5 could easily put them around P8 again. God I can't wait :)

That's a much nicer nickname than last year's Clifford! I hope that the car improves similarly :)

PS I have to confess that I loved the Clifford nickname, whoever came up with it is a genius.

Yep, same here. Guess because he's been at a peak for so long in the past seasons that continuing like that seems like a very hard thing to do. Hope to be wrong though.

Excellent. For the first time, a season where the driver is a bigger concern than the car. Let's hope it stays that way

I know he's not. Atleast he is a fav in GA's books ;) , this doesn't amount to much. But general feeling is Ferrari has a very good car. Thats

Super expert Gary Anderson will bet for Alonso to win the title.

http://www.crash.net...tm_campaign=rss

Every year the same..... all people betting for ALO, at finish season win the WDC Vettel.

ALO is a myth, and IIRC his last WDC was in 2006.

I´m sure this year Ferrari will gave the chance from first race to stay in the mix in OZ, but i think the fav once more is RB and SV.

Yeah, he is so much of a myth that he contested the title right to the wire in 2 of the last 3 seasons... In a car that was not the fastest by any stretch of the imagination.

If they give him a car that is within reach of the fastest all through the year then he will deliver. I have no doubt about that.

Your McLaren boys, who have had better machinery, don't have a better record.

It is not Alonso's fault that experts bet for him.

You are barking at the wrong tree.

I am a little nervous with all this optimism going on.

I'm half expecting a Red Bull front row, or maybe Ferrari trips out of the gate hard at season opener.

How many season's past do I want to forget? Many. No amount of optimism on our end will effect the outcome of the results on race day. If it's all the same to everyone, I'm going to set my expectations to "here we go again", and hope Ferrari surprises with a podium based on performance, not circumstances.

The only reason I am more optimistic over recent years is because Fernando and Feilpe are as well.

Time will tell, lets just be looking forward for the season to start again and some action on the track.

Not sure if there are any changes but it looks like the exhaust is even lower than before. Can't be sure until the car is assembled.

The only title prediction I care about is Bernie's. Not saying anything, but the man is eerily on the mark... :cat:

But it is good to see that Ferrari and Alonso are talked about highly, especially as this time last year they where no-one's choice. Aside from maybe Peter Windsor who almost pulled off the call of the decade.

I picked ALO for the WDC as well, even after the poor showing in testing.

Missed it by this much...

Yes the undercut is bolted to the floor. You can see the attachment holes on the pics.

Great pics. Seems that the teams a really converging in that area with the orignal Red Bull/Sauber and McLaren solutions coming closer from two different starting points.

Looking at it again, it does look much closer to where the floor is, almost like a tunnel, creates a big under-cut.
