Tyre overheating again this season? Or is that in the past?

No problem, I hope Fernando or Lewis can stop that German kid one day. I liked the way they arrived to launch the car

PS. If he makes 10 titles in a row then all the other guys were born in the wrong century

Just imagine that you have had no chance just because you were active in years when there was someone dominating like MS or SV...

Sounds like the press took about 10 million photos during the video.

Quite a nice looking car. Hopefully its fast from the get go or at least has a consistent pace all year.

Nico seemed to think the car is a big step forward on Skys little test review.

Yuck, car looks a few generations behind the top cars on track. Getting to q3 in Australia would be an achievement.

tbh, what is he supposed to say? if the car is bad, he wont stand in front of a camera on day one of testing, telling the world "even compared to last year, this car is a dog"

i think any driver quote is as worthless as lap times are right now.

I like the look of it so far, having just watched the sky footage. I'm guessing the nose isn't the one that will bolted to the front come Melbourne. Hopefully they will get some decent running tomorrow.

too early to really say anything about the car. don't put too much value into what nico says, he's usually bull$hitting positive comments about the car. i doubt they really have any clue at the moment as to where everybody else is so saying the car is a step forward (even if it is) means nothing without knowing what the others did

I think this car is going to be a disaster based on the wiring loom issue which really was a heating issue due to improper heat shielding around the wires.

It's amateur hour continued.

Im finding it hard to get my head around the issue being 'just a wiring issue' with flames like that coming out the back, and the longevity of inactivity in the pits. Im not one for conspiracies but it looked a lot worse than some dodgy wiring. As was said in a technical analysis of the car, they did go on the aggressive side when it came to the cooling of the car, maybe a bit too aggressive?

I think the car is just fine. They said the fire was simply from overrun.

I think it is people automatically defining the speed and class of the car by how narrow it is around the gearbox and the trailing edge of the sidepods.

Its all Newey envy - that cars not like a Red Bull therefore its going to be bad. This was in evidence all last year over on the McLaren thread due to the lower nose. Puzzling I agree as there isn't really one correct way of doing things, and the car works as a whole, you cannot just point at one part and state 'that's wrong' - you have to consider the airflow across the entire design.

Anyway - that is what its all about I think.

Two different things - the flames were a photograph, not video. Looks huge, and most likely lasted for a fraction of a second :) The wiring stoping the car for the entire day is likely down to them not having a spare. If a heat shield failed, then some wiring could have melted and fused together - not fixable - would need to be replaced.

Try expanding your head then.

Wiring issue>>>>ignition ceases but car goes on a few secs>>>>>unignited fuel coming from the exhausts>>>>>unignited fuel ignited by hot bodywork behind exhaust>>>>externally ignited fuel beautifully demonstrates the blowing toward the adequate places(please do take the effort of looking at the unique pic)couple of seconds>>>>>car stops>>>>>>bodywork beautifully smoking>>>>>marshalls work for their money and run to stop fire>>>>fans with no knowledge or affinity of/to physics saying Merc has cooling problems.

There you are.

Mercedes is experiencing too much reliability issues lately. Hopefully they will sort them out. Please don't forget to design more reliable fuel pump as well :p

On the bright side, since the car is most likely extremely slow, they won't be competing for the WDC and can start focusing on 2014 much sooner than Red Bull and McLaren.

The wiring problem was a fundamental issue with the car, even with the spare part it would of had the same problem.

Someone down there didnt think things through, very disappointing start from Merc.

On the bright side Nico said the car is a big improvement on last years, cant wait to see Lewis drive it.

Nico's first laps yesterday took other teams hours to match or exceed. Sure we don't know the fuel level or tires, but to say it's extremely slow is just plain dumb IMO.

Plain dumb is thinking they will be anywhere near the top. It doesn't matter how well Merc does and how much of a step forward they take, it just isn't possible to catch up this year. That's just being realistic.

Remember how Sauber said their new sidepod design was inspired by a Perez crash?

http://www.autosport...t.php/id/105375

Maybe Mercedes needed some inspiration with the front end so they asked him to run into the barriers.

I mentioned that in the testing thread as well ;)

Lewis' has said he was pushing the Mercedes aeroguys to get certain stuff on the on the car. Maybe they weren't listening? :p

Lewis front wheel rim exploded in Nurburgring 2007 during qualifying when he tried to brake, sendind him straight into the barriers. He was driving a McLaren!!!
Sh*t do happen.

Hmm, I'm not sure we've seen evidence of any real pace as yet. The car's been misbehaving. I doubt Lewis will push that hard now, as surely confidence will be dented.

These are the guys who have no issue doing racing speeds when blind in the spray behind one another in the wet. I don't think a brake issue will phase him much. Best way is to jump back on the horse after all.

Nothing is impossible. And no one said they'd be at the top. Stop assuming and just converse like a normal person.

Well at least 14 laps was an improvement  Don't they check these things as/after they are manufactured and as they put the car together? Furthermore where does the blame lie in these circumstances?

Interesting, google translated, quote from this article- http://www.auto-moto...ab-6588088.html

The repair of the parts is not a problem. This could be done in three hours. Problem is the brake line. The engineers have come up with a new solution. Although the second day of testing was completed in a short time, consoles himself co-owner Toto Wolff. "Lewis drove in his first lap with new tires from the medium as a time of 1.19,5 minutes. Least we now know that our car is competitive."

Is this implying they could have run but chose not to? Why not fix it, run this afternoon and install the new solution overnight? Hmm....
