Lewis will let a full beard grown or he just waked up and rushed to job.

Ham is relaxed as hell now.

No, that is just me, trying to hide how excited I am at the prospect of my favourite driver actually score a win or two with his new employers.

Happy? You bet! But then I was happy the minute Lewis finally left McLaren. I had a feeling that joining Mercedes would be the making of Lewis and it looks as if I may be proven right...Lewis certainly looks happier than he has done for a long time. I'm not counting chickens or anything but Lewis's time this morning left me with a huge smile on my face! Melbourne can't come quickly enough...

Yeah. I love Lewis. He is the best. A lot of people don't get it. But what he has done really means a lot to me.

I hope this season is great. Just so people can drop the criticism.

Criticism is not all bad... and no one is perfect :) I really like his race craft, it reminds of MS for some reason.. and he seems chill as well which is a bonus. He is an asset to the team, that is for sure.

His racecraft has gotten really good since 2011. To be honest, I thought his craft was good in 2011, other drivers were just reacting poorly. He did make mistakes but that year was nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be.

I predicted weeks ago that by the end of testing they would have managed to convince themselves that the Merc and Hamilton was a championship favourite. Looks like I was spot on.

Would you please point to these points, as I don't see them.

Qualifying results - Barcelona 2012

1. Lewis Hamilton Britain McLaren-Mercedes 1m 21.707s
7. Nico Rosberg Germany Mercedes-Mercedes 1m 23.005s

Today's time: 1m20.558s - soft tyre 4/5 lap stint

Based on the above, how can you not be impressed by today's time, even if the new tyres have given half a second lap time improvement, it's still a spectacular time.

Fuel corrected the time would have been a mid to high 1:21.7xx.

About 0.5% lighter than every other car in Q3 that day. Just as back then, a forumer discrediting an amazing performance. That half a lap of fuel was worth very little of the 6 tenths gap.

Looking promising, is all I'd say. I'd dearly love them all to try a proper Q3 session, just so we actually knew. It's a top time, on a track that was green, and without unlimited DRS, so, as far as that goes, it's pretty impressive. I think RBR have another half a second in the bag, I just do. I also think Mercedes would be a little quicker; I genuinely don't think they've shown their hand yet, I don't as there are far too many smiles around the whole team.

Be good to see Rosberg tomorrow, as he finds it tricky to hide his enthusiasm, and I am kind of pleased that it looks like he's got a fair car under him for a change. Looking good though, and I am genuinely pleased for LH.

Did you also predict that Mercedes would also have a genuinely fast car, be up there with the rest throughout all test sessions, and then go on to set the fastest lap time of the penultimate test day by at least 0.7 seconds? Oh wait...

Why don't you take your smug attitude somewhere else instead of laughing at Fans who are genuinely excited for their team and driver? No one here is saying Mercedes have the WDC/CC locked up.

A van!? I dunno, seems a little plain for an f1 team. I figured all parts would be delivered by helicopter or hovercraft. LOL.

I predict a season like all the other seasons since the early BAR days: promising pace in testing despite a few technical woes, some good qualifying results in the first few races, not good enough in races because the car can't keep the tires warm/destroys the tires/both and after the development gets going, the team falls back and doesn't recover. And I'm not even sure they have a car that could enable Hamilton to put it on pole in Melbourne. There's a big chance that only one of the cars even makes it in top 10.

Looking at the Mercedes out on the track, the car looks fairly impressive with both Hamilton and Nico Rosberg at the wheel.
First of all, both drivers are pushing hard. You can see some steering wheel action mid-corner, which always shows that for what tyres, fuel load or track condition you have, the driver is using the car to its maximum.
The good points are that the car responds and the driver is able to pull it back onto the racing line if he gets it a bit out of shape.
Some other cars out there, such as the McLaren, just have an inherent understeer, or lack of front-end grip, which means the car does not respond to the steering wheel.
Others, such as the Ferrari, break into snappy oversteer - the rear is loose - on corner exit if the throttle is applied too early.
The Mercedes does all of that but to a much lesser degree and the driver is able to manipulate the car as required.
When watching out on the track, most cars look good if they are on new tyres and especially good on low fuel, and then deteriorate as the tyres go past their best. But the Mercedes never looks very different whatever conditions it is running in.

Testing times are not to be overestimated but this sounds positive, so far.

That Lap Lewis did was impressive, taking out the use of DRS for the full lap but the tyres are supposed to be quicker this year so.

He beat his pole time last year buy quite a bit so they have made huge steps from the 2012 disaster of a car.

The Aero doesn't look anywhere near as good as Mclaren or Redbull from the footage i have seen but the traction is on another planet and i'm not going overboard with this.

I expect streets circuits for them to dominate, i hope they can develop the aero side and fight the top guys

You could sort of see that on the testing coverage, as the track dried obviously times improved (Thursday, this is) but it looked the same everytime.

One-lap pace isn't to be downplayed, either. 2012 showed that if you could get out front, you could generally run a much better pace than others stuck in traffic.

I admit I wasn't much convinced of Mercedes in the earlier tests, but they're looking strong.

Not to turn this into a RBR-thread, but in pure pace, the lack of DRS in Q will hurt them big time.

Good showing by Mercedes.

I think the only way this car is not in the top 10 is if other teams have been sandbagging like crazy. All signs point to Mercedes, at the very least, being at the top of the "mid-field" (ie. top of the group following RBR, MCL, FER and LOT).

All signs point to the car being very much in the second group of cars right behind Red Bull at the worst. The only way you'd think otherwise is if you take into account their past cars.

Some say soft some say mediums. Different everywhere.

If I understand the issue correctly, Hembrey mispoke yesterday about the tyres that were not marked and said that they were mediums, but they were not. The non-marked tyres were either softs or hards from what I understand, so the 1.20.8 would have been on soft - but old-type softs. I'm not sure though.

Interestingly, the driveshaft is exposed now. Used to be shrouded together with the lower rear wishbone leg.
