Both cars in the points is what we should all want/expect.

I want the team to win.

I expect both cars in the top 8 positions.

Can't wait for this morning to start to get a true idea of pace of the Merc.

Trying to maintain a level, none pessimistic but not confident mentality, can't wait.

I know that the Sky coverage for FP1 starts at 1am (GMT) but what time does the actual session start.

I have a really good feeling about this car, I hope that they start as good as they did last year (pre-race, anyway).

Why the hell is anyone backing the team to win the championship when (a) the cars they've produced have been crap and (b) they've never, ever developed well over the course of a season? Same hype around the car this time last year and the same developmental crap.

Great argument. Merc should just save their money and not even bother showing up.

I second that. They have enough F1 exposure as it is, throught safety and medical car.

Yep, and if it rains a lot in Malaysia and China it'll be a Merc leading half the race, even if it's only Berndt whatsisname in the safety car.

Of course it was against Mercedes. Another baseless assumption that nothing has changed and last year will repeat. But the team quite obviously has changed.

Anyway for me setup and driving will be key this year, as much as the cars; I can't wait to see Lewis with new engineers.

I think merc will benefit from the seemingly slightly cool temperatures there at the moment, win the race, and then be crap for the next 3 years

They shouldn't be so new by now. Although if you mean in combat circumstances, I agree. I think he will be in very good hands. I'd give a lot though for some free radio exchange 'listen-ins'.

Well I mean new engineers as in different and better from what McLaren gave him when JB joined - like the one who said all drivers are prima donnas...

Yeah the radio will be more than interesting, I'm expecting it to be matier and more mutual, hopefully...

Baseless? You 'aving a laugh? And by the way, I'm not saying nothing will change I am saying that it is odd to back a team to come out of nowhere and win the WCC where nothing has changed for them for the past 3 years.

I honestly think the main difference will be proactivity. He will be encouraged to make decisions on the run. I wouldn't think they are better. It is different.

I always had doubts about the quality of Lewis' engineers at Mac, after Prew.

On strategy I think it's comparatively rare for the driver to have a lot of input. Really it's only about the state of the track and whether the car is drivable. I think the big difference will be that it'll all be more shared and mutual, and Lewis will have more confidence in them.

Not much actually, bit disappointing. Mention more about Lewis' chances than the car, GA discusses how the fw is necessary for other developments all over the car, but apart from that it wasn't really insightful.

"Five or six wins" would definitely make him a WDC-contender. I'd love for Andersson to be right, but I can't bring myself to be that optimistic.

Also looking very, very much forward to get an impression of how it works between Hamilton and his engineers. Remind me, is it going to be Jock Clear as his no.1, or that other guy? (Tomlinson?)

Don't know what you mean, I for one found out that there are two types of F1 cars this season; ones you can drive by the seat of your pants, and others you can't, apparently the Mercedes is one of the former, but why that means anything, and what seperates the former from the latter, Gary in his unquestionable wisdom has deigned not to reveal to us.

Deja vu?

Yes I'm fully aware of Jock Clear's role as his performance engineer, but when someone asks who's Alonso's no 1, they don't say Stella, and so and so, similarly with Vettel they don't say Rocky and so and so.

I watched the video and for me he was talking about the Merc team's chance to win 5-6 races, not just Lewis's. Even this is wildly optimistic unless he thinks the team is in the top two. Remind me how many teams won that many races in the last few years? Gah! Let's just have some races please and stop this hyper-speculation!!!

If F1 had the same intra-season break as football (about 2-3 weeks most years it seems!) we'd probably not get so much fantastic and outlandish speculation as we get in this sport when everyone including the pundits has been waiting for three months (testing counts about as much as showing a photo of food to a starving man).

Probably too much for us mere mortals to handle (just joking, quite like GA  ).

Can't wait to see your sig after FP this evening/morning.

Umm, yes they do? Stella is the guy Alonso hears on the radio, Rocky is the guy Vettel hears, and Bonnington will be the guy that Hamilton hears.

I hope he's better than Latham, though that won't be exactly hard.

There haven't been any "experts" that have said anything of the sort. Nor has anyone on the forum. We've just had some members that are having some fun and being a bit confident for the first race.

Yep, it's one of those cars that can be steered by subtle control of the glutimus maximus. Tensing one cheek causes steering input, tensing both causes a braking input, and a pelvic thrust is all that's needed for maximum acceleration. It's all in the muscles.

That's probably because Alonso or Vettel's "No.2" doesn't have the same reputation as Jock Clear hence his honourable mention.

Aren't you guys tired of speculation?

I don't think I've ever seen so much hype by journos and fans during pre-season. This is not Brawn 2009.

Get a grip.

Practice starts in only a couple of hours.

 Lets just hope there is not a similar volume of wailing to that of the overconfidence thrown around here over the past week when the reality doesn't meet their lofty expectations.
