I am delighted, but no points for qualifying. Tomorrow will be first real indicator of how tyres behave for everyone.

Has their been any comments about practice starts by the team or drivers? I imagine the Merc is gonna be decent off the line (provided clutch settings are right and well executed) with it's well noted good traction. Is this a fair assumption?

Hopefully he will take MW before the first turn!

I just want Lewis to get a win this season. Lewis is the only driver in F1 history to get a win in every season they have competed in.

I think China will be Hamilton's best chance of a win this season.

Canada.

Has the curse of Win-DNF during the season and specially at Canada left behind at McLaren? I hope so. Positive signs already, from yesterdays shunt.

Also if they could have a race solely around the third sector of Abu Dhabi he'd lap everyone by the end of the first lap :p

 One can dream. But I'll be honest, I'm a bit surprised that the W04, known for its mech grip, didn't do so well in S3 (Melbourne). Doesn't S3 demand mech grip?

Doesn't look good so far, hope it's because of the state of the SS tyres!

Merc are pretty much where they´ve been one year ago, maybe the race pace is a bit better in comparison to the other cars but still inferior

they tried Lotus tactic. ANd look where Kimi is, and Hamilton needed to pit stop anyway.

They still dont have tyre management of Lotus (well no one has lol) but they have inferior pace to other top 3 teams

Welcome to reality, chaps.

Retirement? Check. Falling back after Quali? Check. Tyres out of sorts? Check. Dodgy strategy? Check.

Rosberg confirmed that he had the same problem today which he had on Friday. He believes that the qualify pace is good, but he's unsure about the race pace.

Things we should learn from today:

-Race pace is far more important than qualy pace
-Mirror other teams strategies/don't try and be too clever
-The car is good and doesn't eat it's tyres (it's just no Lotus)

The race pace didn't look too dissimilar to the others once things settled. I think Lewis would have been pretty close to Massa and Vettel had they mirrored their strategies.

I don't think strategy made any difference. The only thing that matters with these fail tires is the wear. They have to work on that.

Well I'm not too disappointed with that...obviously the race pace could be better, but come on...look where Mercedes were at the end of last season. Pity about Nico but I'll take a fifth place for Lewis. :)

I'll take a fifth place for Hamilton, disappointing to see Rosberg not being able to finish the race, but what really annoys me are these awful tyres, I didn't enjoy watching that race at all.

2nd in pure pace; 4th in race pace (with above average tyre management?), I'll take it.

sorta started this season like they started last.... race pace is not there yet, need to work on that... no shame about the strategy n trying something different.

Let's hope they can really kick on and develop the race pace

P.5 is respectable considering where Merc where at the end of last season and what the conditions where also like today. Look at where McLaren are off the back of a really strong season. Bring it on, still a lot more races to go boys :)

Really the only thing they have to work on is race pace and race starts...While maintaining development on the other aspects. The car is not the best on tyres .. but it certainly is not the worst like last year. This is till a massive net improvement overall.. in that area.

Chin up .. Rome was not built in a day and realities needed to be in check. P5 actually is better than where i thought we would have ended up as this race unfolded.

Exactly. This has to be a cause for worry. Did the tyres take longer to warm up?

They said they were going to bring parts to Malaysia, I think they are indeed lacking downforce to Ferrari/Lotus/RBR.

Shame nico couldn't finish the race too for some good points.

Such optimism. A few more retirements, a few more crappy strategy calls and dire development over the course of the season will see that wane.

Rosberg wasn't too happy with the car; slidding, graining etc.
There are lessons which I am sure Merc would take away from this race. They were so slow on the straights. Wet setup?

Don't know but HAM didn't show up on the top 5 speed trap. Did they give him a too long 7th gear?

Also, it just seems overall they don't get enough grip from the tyres, which might suggest a lack of downforce.
