According to nearly all sources I found the picture shows Jerry Titus driving a Cheetah at the 1964 USRRC round at Laguna Seca. But the #58 car shown is not a Cheetah. Does somebody know what car Titus really drove in that race?

I am pretty sure Titus drove a cheetah at the Riverside USRRC the week before Laguna. It was the first pro race I attended. The cheetah seemed uncompetive against the rear engine sports racers. Possible he was entered at Laguna in the Cheetah, than switched to a more competive mount?

The January 1965 issue of Sports Car Graphic has a picture on the last page showing a #58 Cheetah off course with its front wheels toed fully inwards, as though the steering linkage has completely broken. The caption says the picture was taken at the Times Grand Prix at Riverside. Don't know if it was driven by Titus, don't know if it appeared at Laguna.

May be the answer. Since Laguna was right after Riverside, the Cheetah was not immediately repairable, so Titus ran his Genie-Corvair, a car he had been running in club events, but was, of course, uncompetitive against the Chaparrals and Cooper-Fords.

Restored or re engineered?
I can make a guess.
