Time for a happy topic this winter. Those moments when you were positive a driver was going to crash, but they used their immense skill to get away with it.

Two of my favourites.

Keke Rosberg. Nuff' said. :p

In my opinion, the man with the best car control in F1 history, yes, even better than Gilles. ;)

I was going to make exactly the same kind of topic a few days ago. :p

Raikkonen during his pole lap at Hockenheim 2005
Kimi saves it again during a qualification lap
Alonso saves it during Brazilian GP 2012

Didn't Hamilton have an incredible save at some wet-weather qualifying this season? Was it Hockenheim? I vaguely remember something like that.

EDIT: It was Silverstone!

Was it Trulli popping his wing a touch early in the first qually session utilizing DRS in Melbourne a few years back and in a massive display of ass vs class managed to miss anything concrete??

And Larry Perkins for the win!!

Also... Glenn Seton at Bathurst, in a Group A Nissan, in the rain on slicks...

Crazy ballsy!!

Also.... Some Larry Perkins power sliding in the wet @ Bathurst...

Alonso, Brazil 2012. Not the best quality but felt sure he was going around.

EDIT: Slightly better quality -

Jason Plato, Brands Hatch 2009 -

If he had had good car control in those moments, he wouldn't have spun in the first place, those videos are a display of luck not to hit anything more than anything else.

Yikes, now that was a save and a half.

Personally some of the one's like Keke's where he spins then ends up facing the right way i don't class as a "save", not in the true sense, he's already lost it and it's much more luck then judgement that he got away with it, a save is where you actually stop yourself from going around/off IMO.

DC has never been touted as someone great with handling oversteer (yet he's driven beatifully around Monaco so often), but he had a great save in the '97 Monza-race, on his way to victory btw. I don't remember if it was in the Ascari-chicane or if it was in one of the Lesmo's, but it was a high-speed, very hairy moment, which he caught beatifully.
Haven't found it on youtube, but I haven't searched much either.

Of course there are so many, and i'm by no means suggesting this was the best, but I remember one as i'm a Hamilton fan where he made an incredible slide through della Roggia chicane at Monza back in 2007, huge oversteer and I thought surely he would beach it in the gravel but he just powered on through as if it didn't happen, using every last centimetre of track available to him, it almost looked deliberate.

Vettel had an incredible power slide through Ascari in 2011 as well. Sadly I can't find the clip for either but they were both fantastic. Monza is great to watch for this reason with the low downforce setups.

I'd say he goes to grass all by himself, but a great save nevertheless.

I remember Alonso having a massive moment during quali at the Nurburgring 2007 but can't find a video. There also used to be a video floating around youtube of Alonso in the '08 Renault nearly losing it through the lesmos but again I can't find that.

The best one I can remember in modern F1 is one from Räikkönen during the early laps in Spa 2002 through Pouhon. He went wide and totally sideways to dance in the 30cm of turf on the outside of the first part of Pouhon.

There was a video from that one, but it was taken down. Have the race in a DVD and it´s awesome. Looks he practiced it during qualifying

Another good one from him in Oz 2006 as he passed Button locking up, it looked he would go straight to the gravel but somehow kept it on the black stuff.

This year the best one has to be Alonso in Brazil turn 3.

That'll be really hard and very unlikely. Is that from the race itself? I'll post it here if I can find it. The only one I could find was the 95 video where he spun during the warm-up lap.
