Im suprised that main focus is on WRC and ERC is just add on.
Expected to be other way arround since 80% of WRC rallies are gonna be on gravel and ERC on asphalt.

I guess if he's serious about rallying he needs to learn everything, right? We know already what he can do on tarmac, let's se how good he is on other surfaces - I can't wait :)

In Polish, but what they say is that citroen (Matton to be precise) said they are targeting wrc2 title this year as well. There is no driver in the standings that could really do it, and their opinion is that RK was signed with this aim. Ambitious if true, don't know if possible - I doubt it to be honest, but anyway can't wait.

Also I wonder if there were any tests already for Rob in DS3?

Well, M. Wilson said that he expects that Robert may win on his ERC debut :)

I wonder if Robert will visit Rally Poland..

GrandPrix.com is reporting this today

Kubica in running for 2014 at Lotus

Robert Kubica is "definitely" in the running to return to formula one with Lotus in 2014.

Turning down an offer to return to circuit racing in the German touring car series DTM this year, the Pole has got off to a highly competitive start as he prepares to contest the second-tier world rally championship in 2013.

The 28-year-old admits he cannot currently drive a single-seater due to the limitations of his still-injured right arm, but he has not ruled out a return to F1 at some point.

In 2010, Kubica drove for the Eric Boullier-run Renault team - now known as Lotus - and the former BMW driver was preparing for his second season in 2011 at the time of his near-fatal rally crash.

It was believed the relationship with Lotus had subsequently broken down, but Frenchman Boullier now insists he would have Kubica back.

"If Robert is completely ready for a return to formula one, he definitely would be among the candidates," he told Russia's f1news.ru, when asked about Lotus' 2014 lineup.

Currently, Lotus' number 1 driver is Kimi Raikkonen, but the Finn is yet to commit beyond the end of his 2013 contract.

Boullier was asked if Raikkonen will still be in F1 next year, and he admitted: "It's a very good question! I don't know the answer."

Another candidate to join the team in 2014 is therefore Davide Valsecchi, the reigning GP2 champion who has signed on this year as Lotus' official reserve.

Asked what chance the 26-year-old Italian has of racing in 2014, Boullier answered: "He has a better chance than anyone else.

"We have some plans for this season and we will see how he copes with his work -- on the track and off.

"Not in the course of a grand prix (weekend), but he will test with the old car."

-------------------------

please give Robert a test drive sometime this summer

I would love for that to happen, as long as the movement in his arm allows him to drive a single-seater.  :D

A pure theoretical question - Could a team build a F1 car for Robert that has 10 cm more space for his arm?
I know it's nonsense, that nobody would construct a car only for one driver, and that it would be disastrous in terms of aerodynamics, but the rules alone would allow this?
(Maybe this question should go to SQT - stupid questions thread;))

I don't have the time to check out the regulations, but I think there's a big chance that the space is there. But the safety regulations force them to cover driver's shoulders etc.

I was wondering other thing. Steering wheel designed with his limitation in mind.
For example the handle for right hand could be rotating. So he doesnt have to twist his hand while turning.

Completely ready. That does not mean adding a bubble to the side of the car and ruining the airflow going to the sidepods & rear wing

Just a typical tabloid story where they try to put words into someones mouth and then write a story about the fiction they've tried to create

Yeah, this is really a no story. If someone asks him would you take RK, he says "if he is ready" and it means he would take Rob at his 100%. What else could he say? It is only logical and 'classy' answer to such question.

Robert Kubica 'helping' Mercedes Formula 1 team

Polish media are saying that Mercedes wan't to build a "special" f1 car to test his possibilities.

quick question... obviously I`m not very informed about the physical condition of Robert... and I`d be happy to see him in F1 again...
but is he currently able to handle an F1 car? Does anyone have pictures or videos of him in a single seater racing car somewhere? cheers

I dunno, so I'm just curious, if the BBC journo made it up, or the Polish journos made it up during translation.
But from somewhere came the information.

I don't know how special has to be this "special" car. I believe it is a case of just minor altering of existing monocoque from previous years. We talking about few inches here :)

Usual result of the story being translated back and forth few times by people who are not that good at it.

He can drive F1 car right now on tracks like Barcelona, but can't on small, twisty tracks like Monaco. The problem is space in cockpit - lack of it.
But surely it is question of time, when he will be able to drive on every track. Who knows, maybe right now he can do it?

I really hope for his fans and for Robert himself that he can do it one day that would be amazing.

But still the big question remains will he be able to be competitive and really fight for points. Robert isnt the guy to just go and drive in a formula one car just to be part of the game. If he can't do it well and fast enough there is no point in trying.

Another question is, which team with a fast F1 car would be willing to employ Robert.

In his last interview for autosport he said, that he can't say in percent values how likely is his return to F1, but he can say for sure that for now it can't be ruled out that he will be able to come back. Pretty positive news. He said that he didn't took the DTM option because he is working on his F1 comeback, and until this is an option, he don't want to go to other racing series.
It's my translation to english from someones translation from english to polish, so maybe something twisted, can't find the original interview, but generally, it isn't the end of the story, that is, like I said, positive :)

No videos of him racing were published. He said about 3 months ago (someone correct me?) that he would be able to drive F1 car around tracks like Barcelona, but he would be unable to hold right hand on the wheel in tight Monaco turns because of the elbow movement limitations, f1 cockpit is 10 cm too narrow. Which indicates a progress, as earlier he said he be unable to sit in an F1 car, also it looks like he is able to hold elbow closer to the body now than one year ago, however the movement of elbows and wrist are still very limited (judging by the videos).

This is the only picture of him driving in which right hand is visible I've seen:

Niki Lauda:

Translation:
"With Hamilton and Nico Rosberg we have the best driver pairing" Lauda is convinced. "The two push each other forward positively. Our driver change has motivated the whole team, all newly inspired. "Lately also ex-Formula 1 driver Robert Kubica (POL) was employed for the tests in the simulator. He should relieve Hamilton and Rosberg. Lauda: "He brings a lot of experience. Due to the limited testing facilities, the simulators are becoming more important ".

So its not that Robert was there just to try his progress in simulator.

Nice to see, but unfortunately it's filmed from the left. He doesn't seem to use his right hand to steer at all and there seems to be no use for it in this 'simulator'. Does he use it exclusively for the stick shift?

Yeah, it would be a 2011 car or older.

And with older tyres presumably? Not that either of these (2011 car & old tyres), would have a massive impact on his reasons for testing. If he can fit in the cockpit and drive the car at speed then it will be a good indication.
Where would they test? Silverstone?

Wolf reports that Kubica has had good impact on the F1 Mercedes simulators, but no long term plans.

On a related note, a general article about what's inside those expensive machines.

No mention of Mercedes' plans to put Kubica in any kind of F1 car whatsoever.
