Uh.. I'm puzzled why they mentioned Lewis? Because he's British?
Hmmm nahh, they didnt mention ... Di Resta.

Because he's very, very boring

...or Chilton.

Because he's crap

...Button...

Because... well, you got me there

Just watched the BBC news, F1 got a 20 second mention in the sports section.

'Sebastian Vettel was fastest in practice today, Lewis Hamilton was 6th'

Uh.. I'm puzzled why they mentioned Lewis? Because he's British? Hmmm nahh, they didnt mention Button, Di Resta or Chilton.

Well, I would suggest that if you asked the British public to name any British current British racing drivers, out of those that could name one, my guess is that close to 100% would mention Lewis Hamilton. And, out of those that could only think of one driver, for close to 100% of them it would be Lewis Hamilton. That's my guess. In other words, my guess is that Lewis Hamilton is far more well known to the public than any other British driver. Of course, that could be because he's the one name that the media mention all of the time.

And he's running at the front. No one's interested in the Button blah blah blah line from deep in the field.

Well, I probably wouldn't ask the same question more than once in one lifetime.

they seem to be doing all the 1983 races

Only the first five races of the 1983 season - as trailed during last week's F1 Show.

Bernie, what a wind up merchant. Telling Suzi he's going to drop the British GP next year.

He did something similar to Jake the first time he interviewed him.

Suzi doesn't look comfortable. She seems to be struggling to string together the conversational points and at times sounds unsure of what she is saying, as if her general knowledge of F1 is lacking a little and she is worried she is saying something wrong. Doesn't help when she calls drivers "riders" either.

Blame Bernie, the questions were fine, the answers were shite. I don't know why he bothers talking to the press, he obviously resents having to.

"Describe your feelings about not getting out of Q1"

Absolutely delighted?

I don't know why interviewers are so obsessed with peoples feelings, it's not a Beeb thing it's a modern media thing, how does a driver feel about his retirement? bad, how does he feel about his third straight win? good, use your feckin imagination!

Cannot agree more. If I was the interviewer, there are hundreds of more interesting questions I can ask before resorting to "How are you feeling?".

Personally, I prefer they ask specific questions that the drivers can answer concisely. I know it makes the reporters job easier when they ask something really open ended like "How does the car feel", but with those kinds of questions you always get the same sort of responses.

The questions were, mostly, unoriginal and uninteresting for me. I don't envy Suzi as Mr E. can be an ass at the best of times but she asked for a lot of those responses today, IMHO.

decent coverage from bbc today but . i think suzi is still bedding in and the bernie interview was terrible along with calling q3 q1 and saying riders . other than that it was good. i noticed in r5l comm box it was james allen and gary anderson why couldnt it be allen and mcnish so that gary would be in the pit lane for the tv coverage, and the program should be 2 and half hours no less, honestly today there was less interviews after q than in the extended highlights shows.

Watched the BBC coverage over SKY for the first time in ages, this was just to see how BBC's coverage is as I always watch Sky.

I prefer Edwards as a lead commentator over Croft if I am completely honest. Croft commentates and talks like he is in the pub with his mates and it is doing my head in. I believe Croft is much more suited to practice sessions where he can fill the time with his banter. But during a race I want to be up to date on the action and not information on what he was doing in his hotel the other night!

I watched some of the BBC's highlight races of this season and I like the sound of Edwards. But obviously this is just my opinion.

What is everyone else's thoughts on Croft?

I'll take Croft over Edwards at a push, the over-shouting is slightly more bearable on Sky. And Brundle slays Coulthard. I had a lot of respect for DC as a driver but he has zero credibility as a commentator.

No

I'm sure Hamilton has it in his contract he doesn't have to wear a hat because he rarely ever wears one since he signed with Mercedes.

Has there been any decent pre race features on either channel this year?

It always seems to be a recap of qualifying/the last race, a few boring interviews that reveal nothing then just general chat between the anchors.

If I watch the race, I tune in about 5 minutes before - I can find anything else I want on the web, and I don't get the inane chatter...

The grid walks can be entertaining, but usually...no...

I really enjoyed Webber and Alonso interviewing each other just now on the BBC. Would love to see the whole interview without the cuts.

Nothing special or worth going looking for, just EJ being EJ and him and DC bickering, it's beyond a joke.

I got annoyed with the 'smug lads' vibe when Jake was there and if anything it's worse now with poor suzy stuck in the middle.

DC is a terrible commentator. Alonso, who is renowned these days as being a fast starter, was accused from DC for jumping the start.

I found Crofty today out of sync with what was going around the track. there were many occasions where his comments were but obvious.

during the start of the race, he mentioned that despite having DRS enabled, there are no overtaking. Forgetting that all the cars (leaders) were within a sec gap.

the tv coverage showed massa locking up and he mentioned that Alonso locks up and Massa locks up...

After the 3rd pitstop from Fernando Alonso, it was evident that he is going to win the race (looking at his pace and place on the track). there was no way he could have been challenged by either Kimi, Vettel or Felipe. Yet, he kept on saying Kimi is going to be ahead.

before massa pitted for the last time, he mentioned that Ferrari are going to use Felipe to slow Kimi down. Completely forgetting the fact that by then Kimi had already done few laps on his tyres and Fernando on a fresh rubber.

Usually, I do like his commentary but today, he was just off..

what are your thoughts?

To be fair as soon as he saw the replay he did point out it was Massa suddenly blasting past the very slow starting Webber that had caught his eye. I can think of worse mistakes to make.

The worst part of his commentary today was when Button passed Hamilton and he did his little

"Hi Lewis, how's your race been today"
"Yeh not very good, how you getting on in the Mclaren"
etc.

Which was cringe worthy.

And i don't like how he said Massa did his supporting role well today, since Massa drove for himself today.
