Here's the latest incredible cutaway feature by Tony Matthews, the 1984 Lotus 95T. Many of the famed F1 constructor's innermost secrets are for the first time revealed, including what the gold leaf really was and the true identity of the Beast of Ketteringham.

Just in case anyone finds the tale of 'The Beast of Ketteringham' a bit far-fetched, I am posting the relevant negatives. The film started out as a complete, 36-odd strip, and the photographs in question were adjacent, it was only later that the film was chopped into handleable lengths - so you have to imagine me working my way along the film, my eye only an inch or so from the frames. This made the sudden, double appearance of 'The Beast' even more alarming.

Have you tried starting a new thread on the Nostalgia forum, Help IDing this Beast?
I am always amazed at how someone can usually ID just about anything submitted.
The dark spot on the right cheek may provide a clue. :)
As usual the detail in your work is absolutely beautiful! Please keep it coming.

The dark spot might have been the transit of Venus, John. Thank you for your kind comments.

In spotlighting the Beast of Ketteringham, I may have done a disservice to the rest of Tony's essay. There's also a very interesting description of the composite tub construction.

If you are on this forum you probbaly know this anyway but:-

The formula used to work out how much to remove out of honeycomb panel using the Lotus 95 " cut and fold " technique is 2.pi.t.x/360. where t is the panel thickness and x is the required bending angle ( courtesy "successful composite deisgn" by peter noakes p92).

Before anybody starts cutting I think I've typed the formula correctly using only one line!

And here is the diagram I did for Peter Wright's 'F1 Technology', still selling, albeit slowly now. I should have checked this before I wrote the T95 piece, then I would have got the core material right!
