Shame about the reliability today, but button's comment are positive especially the comments about being surprised about the lap time  :D

Mark Webber on JBs time;
"It's strong," he said. "I don't know what compound of tyre he was on but it's not a slow lap around here. A 1:18.8 at Jerez on Pirellis is a pretty handy time."

Espnf1.com

@McLaren_Soul: Button says he intends to stay at Jerez all week to support his new team-mate, Sergio Perez, who is about to take his 1st drive in a McLaren

Exciting times ahead for Perez! I hope he'll feel comfortable as soon as he goes out on track and he needs to do lots of long runs and set-up work to drive this car as he wants

@JensonButton: Ahh it's good to be back in the cockpit! Mixed day for us here at Jerez but think we have a pretty good base. #believeinMclaren

You smell that? No?...well I tell you what I smell....I smell the second coming of the mp4/20, only minus the engine blowups every other race. This thing is a weapon out of the box which is so unbelievably positive. The 20 was quick from lap 1, the 22 was quick from lap one, oh boy oh boy, it can only get better from here!!!!

Edit: Jenson staying very calm about the car, I was hoping to hear him say "the car is already so much easier to drive than last years car, which was also a great car" i wonder how he is handling wise with it, nothing has been said yet. Checo will notice the biggest difference in the engines drivability vs the Ferrari I think.

İt was a mixed day cuz of the fuel pump issue but otherwise team have good base to build on which is good sign. Hopefully, they will fix this "fuel pump" issue ASAP.

Looks beautiful as usual and hopefully its a WDC challenger this year. Wouldn't mind seeing Mclaren getting the constructors as well.

I not sure if Button is really too deep but it really looks like. Think about at which height his eyes must be. He's the racing driver and used to drive cars with deep seats

It doesn't take much to think about the WDC and WCC.

We were in the same situation last year...

Button is the larger one of the two Mac drivers.

I wonder if Perez can see where he is going

If it is the case, he is doing a damm good job seeing blind. I'm assuming that is down to the angle the photo but i do remember last year them testing with a strip on the cockpit to simulate the higher cockpit for this year.

Perhaps Perez has a similar torso to Jenson? I doubt if anyone thought of that in the ignorance of the average user of this BB or I'm sure McLaren can position Perez to the right level with his seat anyway.

Button is one of the taller drivers in F1 with Mark if my memory serves....also Button always likes sitting as low as possible in the car.

Just watched that Sky interview with Button, his body language was very....downbeat, I don't know. I take into account he lost half a day with a problem but with the car being quick straight out of the box I expected a more chirpy driver than that.

Watch the interview you'll know what I mean, his body language wasn't very positive, yes I know I am probably reading into it too much but I don't know, I expected a completely difference reaction after having a quick car out of the box, unless he set the time on fumes which to me McLaren just wouldn't do it, then maybe the car isn't THAT good? Who knows, maybe it was just because of the fuel pump and he was upset that he could have gone alot faster had he had more time in the car.

Sadly though I'm English i currently live on the continent so I can't. maybe he was just confused? He said he didn't know how he did the time?

Or he could know that the time was matched by the f2012 and a few others last year, thus isnt all that amazing, its the first day of testing therefore laptimes are pointless, and he spent more than half of sat in a garage instead of testing.

I have much faith in this team, and after a bad beginning of the test, they recovered, so I truly believe that we can fight for both championships this season!

Keep the faith

I think he was just p*ssed that his plan was ruined. He had this new car, which he seemed he genuinely liked the feel of but he couldn't get as many laps done as he wanted.
That's all, I don't think he is feeling downbeat about the performance, may e the reliability though. (Even though it was a Mercedes part)

The best part for you guys was that the car behaved like the car does in the simulator. Very important to have this, and being a Ferrari fan know all to well what happens when that isn't the case.

The Mclaren fans swing-o-meter has already had a good work out on day one.

Still too early to tell anything IMO, you'll just have to wait till Oz for a conclusion, can't beat the intrigue though.

Button has said that he likes to sit in a car so low that he barely sees out. So all is good in that front.

Well, every time last year when he was gloating about how NOW they had the fastest car and were going to beat this or that they (or at least he) invariably sucked. Every time he went on the record that they are probably on a backfoot he won a race. So I am taking this particular thing as a good sign

It makes no sense then why would be post that sort of time if he wanted to hide something? Jenson is someone who's body language you can read. He is not like Alonso, Massa or Nico who when interview maintain the same composure. I think there might be something to it. Maybe the lockups he was experiencing on track-side. Only time would tell but I still think McLaren are the team to beat. I suspect might just be experiencing balancing problems and you know he is not one to hide this fact.

I have a very good feeling about the -28 and McLaren have been pretty bullish in there statements prior to the test. I believe the car will be very fast, there's nothing to worry about barring reliability as far as I'm concerned, but I believe they'll get that sorted.
