Probably not the car. I doubt they'd have it all put together just so they could leave it under a sheet for a week. They have plenty of cars they can throw a sheet over for a 'MP4-28' promo shot.

Agreed.

Nose looks too high - and there is no step (even with the cover there would be a dip in the profile surely?) - anyway - if it is the 28 - that is quite a change from last year.

It probably is, McLaren tend to launch the real thing (albeit with old parts). If the nose is that high, that is quite a rare thing for McLaren.

It's not the real thing. The tip of the nose will most likely be at the same height as last year, the big difference is that the area around the front suspension will be higher.

McLaren have admitted they will have a stepped nose next year hidden by a modesty panel which means they will have a similarly higher nose design to the other cars last year.

There is a limit on how high the tip of the nose can be.

The front of the nose was lower than most other cars last season due to the curvature the McLaren had last year, with a stepped nose architecture the lower part of the stepped nose can be made higher and flatter. Yes it has a limit to how high the nose can be but the aim is to make it as high as possible to allow as much flow underneath without infringing the restricted build profile above the nose.

I'd just been thinking how quickly time has past since the end of last season and how close we are to the McLaren reveal and Jerez test. Andy's comment is going to make the next few days long ones.

I guess from reactions that ATM_Andy is insider, so yes, it is exciting. Everyone said 2013 cars will be simply evolutions of 2012 versions, so such comment really is intriguing. Hopefully we won't be disappointed. :D

 very true Obi. It's strange this season, we go into it having been written off by many.

ah, c'mon this MP4-28 will just look like MP4-27 but with a high nose with "the panel", front pull rod suspension, probably a ramp exhaust with tunnel funnel and nothing beyond this.

I don't think anyone will make big innovations in 2013. All teams are more concentrated on 2014, than on 2013. I guess Andy is talking about new livery.

I think if we see a livery change it will only be minor and only relate to either a small partner changes or the 50th celebrations. The only only major livery design changes have been linked to McLaren title sponsorship changes from Marlboro to West to Vodafone. Vodafone have continued their partnership until the end of 2013 at least.

I think some people link the change from Mercedes backing signifies a need for a livery change. I think they link the livery change to silver black or chrome to Mercedes, they forget the fact the first Mercedes powered McLaren the MP4/11 was Marlboro red and white.

The MP4-26 featured the most exciting car launch since the 2009 rule change. It was a car to get excited about. Looked like a technological beast and was also competitive. Looking forward to Friday. I'm sure McLaren won't disappoint. There will be something that grabs our attention, I'm sure of it.

It was different and competitive. I applaud them for stuff like that.

Mclaren fans have good reason to be excited each year, I think. Doing anything 'different' is a source of pride for a lot of people, so long as that 'different'ness works. And Mclaren has a good track record with this stuff. It may not always change the game(although the L-sidepods might have stayed if not for the exhaust rule changes), but they'll at least get people talking and paying attention.

The only thing I dont look forward to are the comments on the competitiveness of the car based solely on its looks. A necessary compromise we make each year, I think. :p

I think a part of that is due to the old quote about if a car looks fast - it usually is. :)

To everyone saying that the teaser photo has a ridiculously high front nose, the car is almost certainly on some kind of stand:

Here it is 'shopped to normal height:
