The only way we are gonna see the stepped nose is via a front on crash or them choosing to change to a stepped profile removing the panel. At least the option is there.

Definitely a higher tub. http://www.mclaren.c...l-specification

Thanks Lemans, I was waiting for the profile shot. Front of the chassis not as pretty as the -27 unfortunately, rear looks very neat.

May not even be the version they start testing with.

It's just a plastic cover.

Agreed. I just compared it with the 27's profile pic and the high nose makes it less attractive indeed though I bet it will still be the best looking car on the grid.

New McLaren an ambitious concept.

http://www.autosport...t.php/id/105341

Quote: "Neale said McLaren had deliberately chosen to try new avenues with its suspension and exhaust even though an evolutionary design was an option with the regulations broadly unchanged for 2013."

Thanks. Your photos / photo links are one of the main reasons I come to this board.

Noticeably higher chassis in the '28, thanks to that picture. The '28 top surface is clearly flat.

Adam Cooper @adamcooperf1
#F1 The new McLaren has a stepped nose -- we know because there's an unpainted one visible through the window of the composite shop!

No picture though :(

Matches with what Scarbs says, we are unlikely to see one intentionally.

First post in a while, been staying away over the silly season this time.

So, first impressions? Gorgeous machine. Very glad that the step isn't on show.

Fingers crossed that suspension doesn't make it hard to set up.

Looking at the vodafone paintjob on the sidepods, and I'm wondering why haven't projected it onto the crash structures this year - is it because the sidepod structure is shorter and starts further back than last year, closer to the rear of the car?

Problem with extending logos onto outer parts of bodywork is that it only really works from one angle. I think the red Vodafone swoop has a nicer profile to last years car.

like someone at f1technical posted, it looks like a 27 with some nice bits from/inspired by redbull and ferrari, mostly suspension. Since this was already a good car last year .... this could be good if it works :-) looking forward to seeing it at the first test

Nice work on that photo find, lets be honest I hope we don't have to see the modesty panel removed, that looks even worse than Ferrari's step last year.

Nothing is missing at all.

Just a lot of people, especially some of you that started following F1 the last few years, are going to have to get used to the idea that despite what the media has been selling you, this is and has always been McLAREN and not "Lewis F1"

The new colour scheme is spot on though.

Just hope they can get their heads around setting it up before the season starts. Suspect there's going to be a bit of learning required with this new suspension set up (just as Ferrari did last year).

Beautiful car by the way. Love that they used the vanity panel. Nice one McLaren.

That comparison shot really shows you just how higher the nose actually is now.

Tbh everyone is entitled to make a comment or have an opinion. Hamilton fans are all labeled kids that know nothing of F1 - Why is that? I for one am glad he came to F1 (Watched F1 all my life and no im not 5) F1 was getting slightly sterile before he came along and gave us much to talk about, Either scandal or his aggressive style talent ect.. No one said anything about "Lewis F1" They merely made a comment.
Love Hamilton or loathe him.. He is a part of Formula 1 thus a part of these forums and no matter how much people make Hamilton fans feel awkward for posting ect, They need to know that they have as much right as them to post here.
Are you happy Hamilton left? Or bitter? I have watched F1 long enough now to realise that "Talent" Comes and goes Hamilton has done a good job for mclaren has he not? More than some?

Lovely looking car. Very organic - although the front looks slightly grafted on. Probably a function of "launch spec".

I'm gonna stick an Ayrton on JB and Perez E/W for the WDC.

I'm a bit dumbfounded as to how well the step nose has been hidden. I'm just not seeing the added panel at all, but it's there. We have picture proof of the step nose.

Having said that, I've never heard McLaren this bullish about a car in a long time...

Lets wait and see
