Can anyone offer a most obscure photo, perhaps published in a contemporary Mexican newspaper or magazine? Mike Spence crashed the Parnell Lotus-BRM race number 18 during practice for the 1966 Mexican GP, bending the car too badly to start in the race. I have photos of it intact and running there before Mike dropped it, but no photos of the wreck, which I now find I also need. In desperation...can anyone assist?

Thanks to both Rudi and Paul. Now is there any chance that some super-sleuths can locate any photos of the burned wreck of Richard Attwood's Parnell Lotus after his 1965 Belgian GP accident?

Or, indeed, can locate any photos of Mike Hailwood's crashed car in the Mediterranean GP at Enna in 1964?

I'm sure I've seen a picture of the Lotus somewhere on this forum so it might be worth a search on Attwood & Spa

There certainly is a photo of the Attwood wreck, but I can't remember where I saw it, probably in a book. The car wasn't badly burned but the notable thing was how much it was wrapped round the telephone pole - my reaction was 'how on earth did he climb out of that?'

And another thing - might any of our South African TNFers be able to offer a source for contemporary photos of the competing cars in the 1965 Rand GP at Kyalami???? Any help most gratefully accepted.

There is a bit about SMBH's Enna shunt (but no photo) here

If it is pictures of of a Lotus 25 FPF you seek, there is one (but at Killarney, not Kyalami) here

(and photos of other cars in SA on that page too)

and at Silverstone for the '66 Int. Trophy here

and another here

Here is the direct link.

I don't think the Attwood Spa crash photo is on the 'net, I think I saw it in a recent book while browsing at the Revival.

The FPF-powered car is generally listed as R7, before it was hacked-about to take a V12 BRM. I have seen a colour shot of Bonnier driving it in practise for the Monaco GP.

It's actually a screen grab made from my DVD of "Grand Prix, the Killer Years". Mind you it was shown as a still picture in the documentary. So it's a grab of a still on a DVD.

WOW! Just back in web reach after a hectic week away and this revelation! Thanks so much Paul. I must send it to Richard to remind him....What do you do with these F1 drivers, eh? His escape so little harmed from this impact and fire was little short of miraculous.

I hesitate to mention it, in view of the fantastic assistance rendered thus far by TNF, but can anyone direct me to - or post here - a photo showing the cockpit interior of Mike Spence's Parnell-entered F1 Lotus-BRM at any venue during 1966 or indeed of the F2 car which he drove in 1967? I must confess, I am increasingly a Spence fan. Any assistance much appreciated, as ever.

I have only seen one photo of a Parnell Lotus in 1966 with the body off, the one of the FPF-powered car at the International Trophy to which I posted a link earlier; in the background is a BRM-powered Lotus but it can't be seen clearly.

There is a photo in Tipler's book 'Lotus 25 & 33' on p164 of R4/13 at Silverstone in 1967 in the paddock with body off, when it was to be driven by Chris Irwin.

The only photos of any kind I have seen of the 1967 F2 Parnell are one in the Autosport report of the wet Mallory Park race,

I know they're familiar - it was me that scanned and posted them in the first place!

Here's R5 at Spa in 1963, scanned from Octane magazine and presumably their copyright:

I think those are David Phipps photos, now Sutton Photographic. Not much of R5 would be re-used. Trev's accident was allegedly caused by his being sent off from the pits with a bolt missing from the rear suspension, the link being held in place temporarily - and unnoticed - by a chubby screwdriver. Entering Stavelot Curve it had dropped out...
