Roland Dane it seems is becoming a whinging pom,, his driver [Mr Desperate Lowndes] did a huge desperate around the outside of Winterbottom, lost all momentum and got a hit in the back. But it is all Frostys fault!!

???? Craig went up the INSIDE, not the outside, of a left hand corner, and this left him tight for the next right hander. For some reason Winterbottom felt the need to follow Craig offline and not brake for the next corner wacking Lowdnes off the track. It was 100% Winterbottoms fault. It had nothing to do with outsides passes and loosing momentum, it was a hit up the back in a braking zone.

I hope someone in the USA picks up the series. Sad that most folks in the USA cant watch.

The Sydney demo derby is happening again. I left half way through the race and I doubt there was a straight car on the track.

The pitlane is a shambles,, carnage and chaos in there, Ingall crashed quite badly. No excuse. But the pitlane is totally inadequate for the work expected. Why on earth do they persist with racing in a car park!

Still it is about what you expect from a series that is so healthy it may only have 24 cars next year, down from 29 two years ago. And where the cars are not even a representation of the road car it is supposedly based upon. Nissan and Volvo [next year] which are both front drive v6 cars as road cars that morph into v8 rear drive.
Sorry but even the punters are not that silly. Crowds are well down, the teams are all struggling for any money with far more expensive cars.

And again the only overseas trip that was remotely viable was NZ,, but did it make any money? And the rebuilt track was rather spoilt. The much vaunted US race on the short circuit had about 500 people there.

The big news is a representative from Penske was there,, I feel they are hoping they will save the series. If they are remotely smart they will stay well away. Ane I feel Roger is smart enough for that.

You do have to laugh at these overly negative "the sky is falling in" type posters who insist everything is wrong. In my experience, people who say that are usually the ones to blame and have outgrown the sport, and there's nothing wrong with the series. By all means have an opinion on something, but look at it this way.

 

V8 Supercars is probably the best touring car series in the world, in terms of driving talent. Look how many international drivers with good records have struggled to be on the pace. It's probably the most spectacular form of touring car racing too. BTCC is a smash up derby, DTM is pretty tedious most the time, and WTCC isn't what it used to be.

 

V8 Supercars have blue chip sponsors like Red Bull and Pepsi etc. Only DTM can rival that. I'd say the V8s are aesthetically miles better than BTCC, WTCC and DTM put together.

 

The grid is becoming more diverse. I'd take a championship with "only" 22 cars in it with Ford, Holden, Nissan, Mercedes and Volvo present, over a 29 car series with only Ford and Holden. Does it matter if they're a representation of road cars or not? Because find me one touring car series that does apply to that.

 

A little bit of balance wouldn't go amiss when you're slating everything, and saying the "series needs saving."

Personally I think V8 Supercar is one of the strongest championships out there and one of the most entertaining both in terms of racing, personalities, teams and technology. Of course that's a subjective opinion, nothing right and wrong about it and others can of course think it's terrible. 

 

I've enjoyed V8 supercars ever since the V8 supercars format was introduced with the previous regulations and I think the COTF regulation that was implemented this year was a step in the right direction. Quite impressed with this championship and really great to watch. Although I think some of the sporting regulations they introduced this year made racing a bit more boring than it was last year.

I watched a couple races last year and i wasnt very impressed with the cars.

For such large, bulky and heavy touring cars you would assume they are quite sturdy and can take a beating but no....even the slightest touch in a wheel to wheel battle would result in a broken steering column and a certain DNF.

 

IMO DTM is much better, the drivers quality and the cars are superior and the points system makes sense.

I also think V8 is the best touring car championship atm, perfect balance between power and downforce make the car difficult to drive but still really fast with close action. love it!

Plenty of touring car racers going sportscars next season, not only do we have some WTCC guys joining in but V8s too as Van Gisbergen will be at Daytona 24 Hours @ GTD category, and Lowndes is aiming for either GTE-PRO or AM in Le Mans. Following Jason Bright's LM debut last year

At this point much the same for Ford and Holden teams. BUT it appears the grid will only be 24 this year. Down from 28,, down from 32. Too expensive and not enough sponsors. Less Holdens as Garry Rogers is running ovlovs.And some privateers don't have the budget. Less Benz,s as not enough money to run 3 of them
See my comments at the start of this thread. A couple of teams are VERY borderline too I am told. Any nastys and you wont see them again either.

Current reports is a field now of 25. Including the almost retired Russell Ingall in Lucas Dumbrells one car.
The Ovlovs evidently did very little running at Philip Island and went home early. A lot of work to catch up! The first race is in 3 weeks.
So in reality probably 23 cars and 2 Volvos.
