One thing thats clear...comparing the FW34 with the field of 2013 is just how advanced & small a 'rear end' the Williams had,

The fuss that is being spouted on various threads about how tight the 2013 Ferrari or Red Bull are....

Neither come close to the compactness of last years Williams. Lets hope the '35' is another step forward,

however, its difficult to imagine where there is excess left to shrink wrap!!

That is what Sam Michael did! (sorry guys that I am saying this again and again.) Looking at how Mclaren is doing fine, I consider FW35 to be a car that is exactly designed.

The shakedown was at Idiada, this facility is known for not allowing any camera near it.

There will be no testing livery this year. The livery they were running in Jerez is the one what will be on the car all season long.

are we likely to see a car thats much different to the FW34 seeing as they are releasing it so late?

I would say that we will see incredibly refined car tomorrow. I do not expect a totally different car this year...

Coughlan's first Williams from start to finish, this thing is going to be a very very good car! I think it will regularly be pushing the Mercedes and if Maldonado can extract his head from his anal cavity then big points hauls will be prominent!

Very small gearbox? Undercut small sidepods.

Highest nose of the grid. Probably even higher than the Ferrari.

That design is looking every bit as aggressive as the top four teams. Looking good I think.

That car looks great and it's going to be really fast, Coughlan has done amazing work again, maybe it will be as good as his MP4-22 was :)

Seriously, thats just brilliant packaging. The undercut on the sidepots, the tight rear, the trick FW - lots going for it, hopefully it'll translate to results in the hands of Bottas (got high hopes for him) and Maldona-d'Oh (if he stays out of trouble). This team really deserves some major sponsors and to be right up on the top step.

In the front view from above the car just disappears behind the driver.

Looks cracking! Really agressive, very Ferrari-esque. The vanity panel also allows the paintjob to flow down the car alot better than last year's 'bitty' one. Like it!

I think Reverend Maldonado will have a rude awakening this year with the pace and racecraft of young Bottas. I think it will bring out his bad side again as he tries too hard to compensate.

they have already shown once, that tight rear is not equal to a competitive car. But clearly they think this is the right way - it will be interesting to see how it goes. Looks spectacular, I like it most from this year cars.

Car looks fast!

The arse-end of that car is amazing.

Think the Renault engine has massive packaging advantages over the Cosworth.

This thing looks bloody quick.I hope for good ol' nostalgia's sake we'll see it below the drivers podium more often.

Yea that could be one, but hadn't Williams developed a really compact gearbox in 2012? Think that specifically contributes as well...

The "nose" section is placed such forward, to give Maldonado better strength in his "Attacking" mode ??! :stoned: :drunk:

I think impact of compact rear is little exaggerated, as far as I remember they were always the frontrunner in this area since 2011. It would be interesting to compare performance between Mercedes with teams having compact rear (RBR, Sauber, Williams).

Problem in 11 was firstly that the Cosworth engine's shape completely negated most of the packaging benefits, and secondly that they built an overly heavy monocoque. So despite having a brilliant package they've had to play catchup with their own tech for three years now.

The gearbox was on the 2011 car, however apparently the Cossie prevented the full advantage thereof from being exploited. So while my comment isn't necessarily timely (a year late!) I think it's worth saying regardless!

Seriously think this car looks very good, very refined. May see even more of Williams at the sharp end of the grid this year, I certainly hope so anyway.

EDIT: Echo.

The rear looks really nicely packaged. Shame the nose looks like a brick (aesthetically, not aerodynamically). Interesting FW mounting and high nose, it's just pig ugly. Still, hoping it'll have some innate speed and the team can fight for the odd win again this year.

Looks excellent, quite similar to the Ferrari in it's nose treatment, high airbox and sidepod intakes. The nose pillars aren't pretty but it looks functional unlike a broken stepped nose.

Aesthetically it hurts my eyes, but from an engineering perspective it looks beautiful.
