I regret to report the death of lady racing driver Gabriel Konig, who passed away on January 8. She and her then husband Mark raced widely in the 1960s, and Gabriel was very, very quick indeed in the ex-John Britten Midget. Sincere condolences to her partner Malcolm Clark, to Mark, relatives and friends.

How very sad. I had the pleasure of being parked next to her in the paddock at Chimay some years ago, and chatting to her at some length over the weekend. She offered much the same opinions as I did on the local organisation (or lack thereof).

She seemed a charming and modest lady, as well as being a still rapid pedaller (at that time, of her intrepid A40) and a huge enthusiast.

My condolences to her friends and family.

Very sorry to hear this sad news. I well recall her spirited driving of her John Britten Midget in the sixties. Sincere condolences to her partner and family.

I'm very saddened by this news. I was very much a fan of hers back in the day and followed her racing exploits with interest. Sincere condolences to Malcolm (a member here, as was Gabriel) and all her family and friends.

Oh what sad news. I too closely followed their Midget exploits. I lived not far from Arkley and used to drive down just to walk around the highly desirable stock of sportscars on a Saturday afternoon.
Later when I worked on sales for a big London Austin Morris distributor John Britten garages were one of our retail dealers and used to draw all their new Midgets from our wholesale dept and I often dealt with Chris Alford who at the time was sales manager - now both JB and Gabriel are gone, oh dear seem to have lost a lot of real characters in recent times.

How very sad, I watched Gabriel almost every other week, the Midget really was the class of the field, whether driven by JB or Gabriel.
Godspeed.

I serviced her Elan when I worked at Delamare Road, she was always charming and, as you can imagine, a welcome visitor. My condolences to family and friends.

One of the saddest parts of editing Speedqueens is adding a date of death and adjusting a profile so it is all in the past tense.

Gabriel was a fascinating, if somewhat elusive lady, who led a full life and was capable of going very fast.

Yes, it's very sad that she's gone.

Is this Gabriel sitting front right in the 1970s photo?

..and maybe third from left in the 1960s shot?

Bugger, incredibly sad news and I find it hard to believe.
Gabriel was an incredibly fast, attractive and ballsy person/driver and I always enjoyed her flirting with me as a younger person; think that was her natural way!!
If you read this Malcolm, then please let me know if I can do anything, my thoughts and prayers are with you.
