Second : why do not you pay FIA for the lap by lap sheet times and make it a pay per view site (this cost x benefits is wonderfull) I bet this is one thing most of the people would pay for it, no problems at all (some people would use it and post in other Foruns? IMO, if the answer is yes,i think there is a way out . If you think what i am saying is not total BS i would try to explain my point of view and the "way out").

I would look at them occasionally if I was looking for something specific, but its not a deal breaker on a webpage for me

Atlas has plenty of members, it's just a case to make a more complete and reliable list of names, adresses, likes, etc. and then rent this to direct mail companies, etc.
That kind of information is valuable now, and will become even more as time goes by.
For some ideas on how to do it, read Permission Marketing, by Seth Godin

That's why I mentioned the book Permission Marketing. There's a way to do it in an enjoyable way for everybody.
I also may suggest any book from Martha Rogers and Don Peppers. Enterprise One-to-One, for instance.

Another idea - F1 Racing Magazine do not have a particularly high profile web presence and they are published in several countries. A partnership between AtlasF1 and F1 Racing magazine would be pretty exciting.
Atlas benefit from the high quality photos and some articles in F1 Racing, and F1 Racing inherit an association with the best F1 website on the net and develop a web presence overnight. It looks like a win, win situation to me.
F1 Racing is published by Haymarket - the publisher is Pat Eggington and the publishers number is +44 (0) 1733 555161.
The only fly in this oinkment is that I think they have some sort of association with www.itv-f1.com but I don't know how that deal works - and this is a far higher quality site.
It's an idea anyway - and maybe something that might work with other F1 related media.

Do we have a bigger readership than the itv site? We must certainly have a more international one.

Atlas logo merchandise would also be a great marketing tool since us Atlasians are going to wear them to the races, people are going to ask questions, we are going to sing the praises of the site... I think readership would increase even more than it already has. How many folks did Andy's t-shirt bring in to the fold?
The downside is that more time and money would have to be volunteered in order to make it work. At some point, however, it would be a self-sustaining profit center. I also like this idea because it could be a simple, nonintrusive additon to Atlas. One hyperlink to Merchandise/Goodies/Stuff, would be all that it would take to access. Atlas is a well designed website and I hope it stays that way. I for one, do not pay much attention to the banner ads in the Atlas pages. I glance at them but I don't recall ever clicking on one to see what they have to offer.

One think I recommend......get better profiles from the members. When people enroll (or re-enroll, I have no problem redoing the process), you need to get as much info as you can: age, marital status, profession, location, children, income level, education, hobbies, interests, and questions about online behavior, such as time spent online, products bought online, etc.
Although we are not a huge community, the more information you get and the more accurate it is, the more valuable it is. Also, we are here very often, so it's easy to adapt the targeting of the banner ads to our community.
I am sure that you can add also an email feature, where you ask members if they would mind to receive emails from companies paying money to Atlas, maybe offering three level choices:
1) any advertiser
2) Only F1 related advertisers (merchandising, tickets, tours, publications, etc)
3) No emails,thank you.
I receive so much junk mail everyday that really it wouldn't bother me at all tyo get some more to help Atlas.
Also, once you have a very solid and accurate profile bank of your members, you can use it with a service like almondnet.com
The beauty of Almondnet is that you provide the profiles, which you own (for anyone worried about privacy, nobody knows who you are, they only know age, income location, not your name, address or social security number). Not only they will make sure, if you use them on your site, that we get an ad tailored to our interests (as such, I would never receive a feminine hygine ad, while TheMott would almost invariably get a Trojan ad), but once we leave AtlasF1 and browse somewhere else, Atlas will still receive a percentage of the money paid for each ad we see, as the profile is owned by Atlas and simply "loaned" to someone else.
If I can think of more, i will certainly forward them.

What you see on the site will probably remain free. We may go to some sort of subscription service with further value added for those who would appreciate it. We are not sure yet.
And, slowly but surely, you will see merchandise arrive for those who would appreciate an Atlas F1 T-shirt or cap as well. This should help the cause.
theMot: make sure the cheque is signed
Andy, thanks for your post.
StuffedBeaver is right about targeted ads. First we need the ads, but I have no doubt that ads targeted for Atlas F1 people, much like most ads during the race on ITV or Speedvision, will result in good if not great success.
Witt, good post.
Uncle Davy... thank you too.
The Swerve - I appreciate your help.
PaulB/baddog/Jackman/Tallguy: Merchandise is coming. I am currently sorting problems out regarding shipping.
RedFever: we are victims of spam and are not really willing to ask for personal data. BTW, the anonymous annual survey supplies great info for our marketing needs -- thanks to all of those who participated. Anyway, no junk mail or spam from Atlas F1.
Everyone else whom wrote with compliments, suggestions and other forms of support... thank you again.
Best regards,
Paul
