Would be cool if not for those damn Monster logos...
It's quite funny that you can buy that exact helmet model (HJC R-PHA 10) Lorenzo is using in MotoGP for less than 400 euros (propably even less in some countries) from any HJC dealership, whereas the helmets F1 drivers use aren't even available for the average-Joe and even if they were, they'd cost (tens of?) thousands of dollars.
And the same goes for some other motorcycle helmet brands like X-lite.
One has to wonder why? It's not like MotoGP racers can afford to wear helmets inferior to the ones in F1...

Yeah his 2010 lid was great, I think the model in the photo is the one available to buy.

More like I don't need to wear a helmet when I drive.

Yeah the economies of scale are in your favour. How many Arai racing helmets are sold each year? How many of their motorcycle helmets? The latter drives the price down a lot.

Green padding and the usual visor colour back on Lewis lid.

Looks like Lewis' lid has been modified slightly too, red blocks look bigger/more shaped.

Also VDG has changed his lid.

What's so weird about it? Seems like just another helmet to me. I'm not exactly a fan of the design of Kimi's helmet, but I wouldn't even have realized it's a different model to last year's if I hadn't read about it here.

Arai just looks cooler and carries a certain presence when the driver wears it, but thats me. the forehead on the bell is very huge compared to Arai also, I think that sthe part the throws me off the most along with the slant the front has. Posted Image I just can't get rid of that coolness :p

It's fine to have a preference but I think you're overselling the differences between the helmets.

They need to change the font of that one logo. I thought the visor said Bum Renault Bum at first glance.

You are comparing inaccurate renders to the real thing?

Actually that bell shape doesnt look too bad at all...in the past it was hideous but that already looks a lot like Arai :)

Those renders are inaccurate as stated. They are just using the same generic shell shape and changing the vents. The renders show both helmets with the same visor which is completely different on the real helmets. All that's changed between the renders is the vents. The "Bell" in the render even have the Arai visor lock mechanism on it.

Excellent points.

Though a slightly older model Bell, here's a side by side.

Mate, that is the same helmet with changed features ie. the air inlets on the lip, and the air inlets above. They are vastly different helmet as I have used both. Compare JB's early 2010 helmet to his current and you'll see the difference, Bell have always had a tendency to look very oversized.

edit: that link is a good comparison.

Really like Ricciardos helmet to be honest, the Red Bull logo doesn't feel like it dominates it as is so often the case.

Other than the visor area, which everyone has had to upgrade, the main difference seems to be the removal of the chin spoiler.

Interesting design. If I'm not mistaken a fake visor sticker is painted on the helmet. :D

I think most of us got that from #481 and #485, but to make things sure I must ask you: what does this helmet remind you of?

pardon me for using a very representative picture of the thing I'm talking about.
I find it hilarious that you cry us a river when Vettel does a one-off copycat helmet, yet you're perfectly fine with tyour driver's 'original' regular helmet. :smoking:

Im not arguing about how unoriginal Lewis lid is, its yellow so was Sennas.

I like Vettels helmet, just a bit disappointed in him not being a little more original like he usually is.

Zava never said it was a bad thing, just that it lacked originality, which, to an extent, is true.

But then how many truly original helmets are there now days? Not many.

Don't worry, there are 18 more race weekends to go... :rotfl:

Liked the tribute helmet, but it wouldn't really make it to my favourites list.

Just a quick note, Kimi's helmet looks much much better in person, the orange isn't orange its a bright red, sort of like the McLaren's red, helmet looks superb in person though! Pictures don't do it any justice at all
