Green should be blue. Red should be black.

Yep. Or blue should be red and green black.

Looks like Raikkonen will use the Bell for the year. Not just a test.

Well that's not good.

Kimi's colours on a bell just don't fit, it looks strange, but Im biased and have always hated the shape of Bells.

That's interesting! Maybe we'll be seeing some nice onboard helmet shots throughout the year.

And he said to rival the GoPro, so it's not a new GoPro.

To me that's a slight problem - I'd've preferred him to stick with his blue lid, it would have been more distinctive.

Yes, he did. Until 2011. Then he switched to JMD.

Yeah, however it's not so surprising, because hist FR3.5 car had the exact same color scheme last year that Marussia has.

Maybe he did a one off but I don't think he's ever had a majorly blue helmet. It's always been reds/whites/silvers/golds.

In this photo it looks like he could be, I'm sure that that's not a standard helmet.

Fair enough, it does look like Kimi may have the same pieces at the top, but what's the purpose of those pieces? They don't seem to aid airflow as they're pretty much flush with the helmet.

It looks like he has all the vents taped over, probably because it's been so cold and wet.

Bell must have made some serious gains ins comfort with their new helmets, 2 Arai drivers have switched/switching, who have worn Arai for most of their open wheel career (Kimi only wore Schuberth cos he had to, not cos he wanted to)

Im still waiting for someone to rock a Stilo. I only ever saw that weird test driver for Williams a few years ago (Forget his name but he was a strange character) and I think Loeb when he tested the Red Bull in 08 used a Stilo.

I don't think Stilo is homologated for F1 race use. No idea why, they have a carbon version.

I've never heard about special homologation for F1 race. FIA 8860-2004 standar not enought?

DV has it.

I've only ever seen it run in testing.

Though I don't think any Stilo-wearing drivers have graduated to F1. But you'd think they'd sponsor one of the existing drivers just to get their product out there.

I doubt that Kimi wanted to wear Bell this year, I think Lotus forced him because the Bell shape suits better with the car aerodynamics.. All Lotus drivers wore a Bell, Kubica wore Arai his whole career but switch for Bell when signed to race for Lotus.. Kimi didnt wear a Bell even when he was in NASCAR where Bell is a very popular helmet.. Certainly he will wear an Arai again, if he leaves Lotus some day.. Most of finnish drivers wore Arai: Keke, Letho, Salo in his early days, Mika Hakkinen, Kovalainen, Kimi and now Bottas..

Stilo makes an 8860 rated helmet that's FIA approved. It's $5,600. Stilo is a very nice helmet and looks awesome in the cockpit of an F1 car. I had ordered one for myself (not the $5k one!) for this year but it was on back-order for 3 months so I cancelled it and got the new carbon Sparco.

The Stilo is becoming pretty common in NASCAR now. A lot of guys including the Busch brothers, Edwards, Earnhardt Jr., Hamlin, Kenseth have been using them.

That's a different helmet too? I know nothing about helmets but the one on the left looks like a retarded bowling ball, the one on the right looks cool again like his old helmet.

The Design has changed also, more white and less stretched, I guess Uffe realised the original design was made for the Arai and had to make it suit the Bell.

Didn't Kubica wear a Bell in his DTM test? Maybe they are good helmets...
I find strange in this thread how some feel so passionate about helmet brands :drunk:

Seems odd to me too. As long as it protects you then go for the one that fits your head shape the best.

Well when you race, you know a little bit about the good and the bad things about some helmet brands.. For example, Arai helmets always was much more lighter and with a clean design.. Bell was always much more heavier and "bulkier".. And the main thing: is always nice watch your favorite driver wearing the same brand as you.

Actually, most Bell helmets are the same or lighter than the current line-up of Arai helmets. I weigh each helmet that comes into my paint shop before I paint them.

The fit and finish on the standard line of Arais is better than Bell though. I'm sure the Bell and Arai 8860 helmets are both pretty damn nicely put together though.
