Don't be ridiculous. Red Bull was as quick as Mclaren throughout the season, and had far less reliability glitches. It was easily the best car for the entire championship year. If anything, Vettel nearly lost the title due his inconsistency throughout the season -- eg. making more mistakes than Hamilton and Alonso combined. His multiple crashes in the most critical parts of the season, Abu Dhabi and Brazil, showed that his nerves are far from being made out of steel.

I adressed that topic once (click), interestingly it seems to be the "result of constant exaggeration" kind of 'fact'.

Vettel naysayers mindset in a nutshell:

1) If Vettel wins, it must be the car.

No, I wouldn't put it that way. I would just leave it at "we just don't know". Then the red herring jumps out about why isn't Webber doing any better? We have to remember that the car is designed more to match Vettel's style than Webber's. At the first part of last season, either Webber understood the car's characteristics better or perhaps it suited him better than Vettel. However, towards the end of the season, Vettel seemed to get a handle on things. I don't think Webber got slower. Rather, Vettel got better.

However, since the mods wont appreciate it any other way, I've quickly created a PDF document on this issue myself.

I think Hamilton ran wide in Abu Dhabi and Alonso spun in Australia qualy. Actually pretty much all of the mistakes of the 3 drivers I recall have been minor with the crashes being racing incidents AFAIK. The thread is more about outright speed than those kind of mistakes.

Vettel lost 1 second in Australia running wide; I don't count minor offs like that, as Hamilton and Alonso had them as well.

I added them actually, including Alonso's off in China and Brazil. I forgot about Hamilton's off in Abu Dhabi.

If I just ended my season badly after getting a high-profile move to a big team, the last thing I would want is to have the spotlight shadowing my every movement by courting even more controversy. But apparently Perez thinks otherwise. (Does he need more personal sponsors or something?)

Having never been in the same team as either Rosberg or Sebastian, I see absolutely no reason why Perez has to try for a 'unique' answer instead of just going for the world champion (or better yet, just say Schumacher instead). This statement had gained Perez one more detractor (Sebastian's fans) and has put Rosberg under pressure to perform. If Nico does well, he's not going to remember Perez's 'kind words'. But if Nico does badly,Perez's statement has added needless spotlight to the situation at Mercedes. Especially since Rosberg has always been rather content to stay out of the 'mind games territory', I don't think he will feel that Perez has done him any favours.

By the way, I am pretty sure Perez meant pure speed when making the comparison. So Sebastian's perfection in 2012 (which I totally agree with ) or otherwise shouldn't really be discussed here, I don't think.
