E1pix, thank you for lesson on copyright, but the B/W versions of these pictures have been widely reproduced and distributed as posters and postcards and appear in a variety of books, magazines and calenders. I believe they were taken by Alois Rottensteiner, but also understood them to be in the public domain given the widespread distribution which goes well beyond the internet. Either way, I've edited my post to link to one of the numerous websites selling the picture as a poster.
Note there are also colour versions of the same scene, taken at the same time copyrighted by Rainer Schlegelmilch. From what I've seen, it was Schlegelmilch's picture that appeared in Peter Hinsdale's The Fabulous Porsche 917 book rather than the B/W versions. I deliberately did not post the Schlegelmilch picture for the copyright reasons you indicated, but have linked to a picture of it below :

http://3.bp.blogspot.....+Workshop.jpgComing back to my original question, to me all pictures are taken at the same location/time as can be seen by the glass doors/windows in the background. My impression was the location was too cramped and disorganised for it to be the Porsche factory, but would welcome any other input.
