He was never highly rated by the top teams otherwise he might still be in the sport, there has to be a good reason why.

Well, Nick managed 12 seasons in F1, there has to be a good reason why.

DiResta isn't going to manage 12 seasons.

Nae wonder the guy comes across a bit strange.

On the way up he is quicker than Vettel yet Vettel goes all the way because he has the Red Bull backing.
Gets his big chance in F1 test but McLaren say he is too tall to be an F1 driver. Gets punted into DTM then cockpit rules are changed to accomodate Webber/Wurtz.
Does well in the DTM with old car.
Wins DTM with good car and gets another chance at F1 because of Haug.
Has to get a Manaco address so that he can join the tax free brigade that is F1 then does not get paid in 2012.
Does well in his maiden season despite Force India using split strategy which gives a false view of your performance against your team mate.
Has to put up with the fawning by the BBC team of failures and fan boys.
Gets a chance at Ferrari with one year deal but ends up in dispute with his manager because his boy needs to move on and Ferrari would be as good a place to go as anywhere.

I could go on.

If he is lucky and keeps his seat for this season there is a chance he might shine. If on the other hand he reads the hate on here, from people who have done nothing in motorsport terms, I suspect, mentally, it will be game over.

Give they guy a chance. He is a great talent but has been struggling with all the crap that a money making scam controlled by a benevolent dictator brings. I hope he bounces back but in a pay formula I very much doubt it.

Is that true about the being too tall for a drive? What rules were changed?

I'm not a particular fan of di Resta's - to me he comes across like a charisma vacuum on TV. BBC and Sky do a lot of features with him, and dull is the appropriate word unfortunately. On the track, he's a good driver, but just that, I've seen nothing to suggest otherwise in his few years at Force India.

Regarding whether he is under threat - I do think he will be kicking himself at losing Anthony Hamilton if he does lose his seat. He's managed by Button's manager team now though so he should be okay.

Heidfeld was a better driver than di Resta can ever dream of being. He never quite took to final step to top race winner, but then he very rarely had the machinery, and he kept a lot of highly rated drivers very honest indeed as team mates.

That maybe so, but what they seem to have in common is that neither of them are top tier and neither overloaded with charisma.

DC "failed" when he let his team mate past in OZ. Nice guy but not hard enough.

EJ took the money (lots of it ) and ran. Another nice guy on the surface but not trustworthy when it comes to money. Worked in a bank when I first met him.

What is the basis for saying this? I thought there could have been a conflict concerning wanting the same drive as Lewis, but I assumed Mercedes was the most likely one.

Maybe because big teams are only 3-4? BMW was kind of big team? Williams? Mercedes wanted to take him, before Schumi came. So, what you say is not exactly right.
True is, there are many drivers without the seat better than DiResta. Heidfeld and Sutil are maybe the best drivers, without F1 seat.

Nothing, not that type of show, its a panel style question and answer quiz show, two teams with three people on each team.

They have one section where you have to guess the mystery person (using really close close ups and awkward camera shots to make it a bit harder) which turned out to be Heikki playing golf, Paul unsurprisingly got it right. I like the lad but he was, as usual, very quiet and didn't really say much but i guess he's just a very shy person!

EDIT: Found a clip of an old one on youtube, its is a bit ridiculous at times but i find it pretty funny, this is a special round though! -
