The Pirelli 2013 tires get into best operating tempature faster than the 2012 ones, right? This should benefit Kimi as well, as he has problems sometimes (especially during qualy) to get heat into the tires.

Kimi, Lotus E21 & Grosjean look good enough combo to fight for regular podiums spot during first 10 races again along with 3 other teams.

Winning pace is nobody's so far like Brawn 2009, so it's a good thing for Lotus & Allison to take it from here.

yes it should be big advantage for Kimi and this faster warming tyre was seen pretty well at jerez, Kimi did his best laps on the first lap on every stint.

JEREZ TEST, DAY 4 - KIMI RÄIKKÖNEN PLEASED WITH E21, EARLY PROGRESS
http://www.lotusf1te...-Raikkonen.html?

ARE YOU HAPPY WITH YOUR NEW TOY FOR THE SEASON?
The car seems pretty good. We’ve made a lot of set-up changes and worked through a lot of things in Jerez but it all seems positive. My first feeling of the car is good, so that’s the main thing. For sure, there are some areas we have to work on, but I’m happy so far.

YOU WERE FASTEST ON THE FINAL DAY IN JEREZ…
We were at the top of the timing monitors, but that means nothing in testing. Our focus has been testing parts on the car, but I’ve also been able to get the set-up more to my liking. For sure, there’s more work to be done in this area, but that’s what we go testing for. The car feels strong and we seem to have a good idea of where we’re going with improvements. Let’s see what happens in Barcelona.

ANY PARTICULAR AREAS WHERE YOU’VE WANTED IMPROVEMENT?
Just the pretty normal areas for a new car. We’ve worked on the seating position and the seat belts so I feel comfortable in the car when it’s going, then we’ve been working on the set-up and balance so I can push harder. This has all been done whilst we’ve been looking at new parts on the car, but progress has been okay.

HAVE THERE BEEN ANY RELIABILITY CONCERNS?
We had some small issues over the last two days, but that’s what you expect in testing and it’s better to have the issues now rather than when you get to the Grands Prix. We’ve just done two days of testing so far and there’s plenty of work still to do before we head to Melbourne.

WHAT’S YOUR FEELING HEADING INTO THE 2013 SEASON?
I’m pretty positive. I raced all of last year so it should be even better this season. I know the team and they know me so we can work together well. I know we had a good car last year and we won a race. I know that the E21 feels pretty good from what I’ve seen so far and we’ve got lots of things to come on the car for the next test. We want to do better than we did last year, that’s the aim. If we can achieve that, I don’t know, but we’re certainly going to be trying hard.

That's... bizarre. It's just a piece of carbon fiber and not the real thing. Maybe they were testing how much bolting it on affects the aerodynamics?

Nothing seriously negative to see or hear so far. Kimi seems not unhappy too, and that's good. Now on to the serious tests, where the real stuff comes out.

Could be the real thing. It just looks like a flat piece of CF rather than a tube. Also it's not connected to the wing.
I could be wrong and they've managed to slim it down to practically nothing, which would be good for the aerodynamics back there I guess.

I'm not an expert, as evidenced by the fact that I'm posting on a forum ;)

afaik it isn't necessary for the tube to be connected to the wing, as the air doesn't feed into the rear wing, it exits the tube below it, from those cuts:

connecting it to the rear wing could function as a rear wing middle pillar though, giving the rear wing more stability.

It doesn't need to be connected to the wing.

Plus, the aerodynamic effects of the DRD working in its entirety would be far more important to study, rather than that of just a mock structure. IMHO, of course.

If it actually is the real thing, it looks far more sophisticated than the Merc solution.

I wonder if this is really the DRD, because any reporter from whatever media stated that Lotus didn't test it during this first testweek. Heard Kravitz's notebook yesterday, and he also claimed that Lotus didn't put it on the car to test it this week. Really hope they did test it, cause they've put lots of resources in it and it could certainly be an advantage to the other teams.

LOL, i think that's purely driver preference.

Romain prefer understeer while kimi prefer oversteer more.

I'd be surprised if they prefer the same balance.

Winter tests are the time of hope and false belief, don't you try to take it away from me.

They should get the basic car setup and reliability sorted first. They can test devices afterwards. Besides, Jerez is not the best place to test it

My guess is usual stuff, new FW, new floor, diffusor maybe. And DRD for the rear wing. Maybe some other aero parts.

I think the PDRS of course, and I recall Kimi saying that they have lots of aero parts yet to come, so a lot to look forward to. I guess the car in Jerez was more or less the base spec.

no big surprise at all, TS reported alreaydy 4 days ago that it has fallen.

Kimi said there will be lots of new updates/parts in coming to the car but also several parts that were there last year but not yet used at Jerez (example Device aka DDRS?)

What does "deal has fallen" mean? Does that mean it has been made, or that it has fallen apart?

What are the tradeoffs for Lotus in such negotiations? I would have thought even a dollar more would have been worth it if they have room on the car. Apart from the opportunity cost of blocking out a more lucrative sponsor for this year, I can't imagine why Lotus would play hard ball on these negotiations. Perhaps something else, non-financial, was a deal breaker.

Yeah, I don't think this has anything to do with Lotus hardballing. I think it may be just Honeywell thinking twice about its involvement in F1. I don't think this would have a massive impact if Lotus fights for championship. Lopez would put the money needed in that situation. They would get the money back next year. But if if it is like in 2012 where they start to fall off after summer break, continuing to spend would be hard to justify in that sense. Best thing for Lotus is to produce a championship-contending car and go all the way!

So they'll just drive with "Kimi" and "Romain" on both cars? Cause I suspect Lotus put their names on that place on the car, just waiting for a sponsor to commit?

Eric Boullier: "We know the car works well"

“I would say there are a couple of things,” said Boullier. “First of all, the feedback from the drivers after their first few laps is always very important – if you see them step out with a smile on their face you know the baseline of the car should be good and it was pleasing to see that from both Kimi and Romain."

They have "interchanged" the colour of their helmets. But the orange band on the front is the same one he had last year in black over the white (the one in our avatar) and, in my opinion, it's easily recognisable as Räikkönen

well, better having a pelican nose than looking like a pregnant whale (was it the R29?) :p

In AMuS, they published yesterday an article comparing the noses of the different cars. The first picture of the gallery (here: click me ) is a composition with all the 2013 noses (except Marussia's). Lotus' nose is probably the most different of all.
