It ALL counts for the Team.

Exactly. Mileage is all that matters, regardless who is driving.

Andrew Benson @andrewbensonf1
Haven't got all the lap times from runs yet but a snapshot from l24-l54 of Webber and Grosjean's race sims suggests Lotus was faster.

Have to be cautious, but Lotus certainly don't look too bad.

Indeed. Although I'm a Kimi fan, I don't think he'll disadvantage from the fact that Romain has driven twice as many laps as him. As long as the team look good, I'm sure Kimi has as much (if not more) chance on a good result in Melbourne as Romain.

It ALL counts for the Team.
As long as they cover their program, no points awarded in testing.
Get rid of the bugs and understand how the car responds to parameter changes (temperature, fuel-load, tyre degredation, set-up tweaks).
If it's quick then Kimi AND Romain should drive it well in qualifying and on a race-day.
I expect that the team are happy with the work so far.
Acid test STARTS on Saturday in Melbourne, Australia when the F1 2013 season begins.
Looking forward to that.

This is all that matters! As long as the team get the best out of the car, it is all that matters. Kimi has adapted to the team and they have a baseline of how he likes his car and how he operates - so him missing out this time round is not that pivotal.

So I don't see why some are behaving as if Lotus is doing this on purpose or asking him to follow team order or something, lol! In any case he still has two more days with the car in Barcelona next time round - where the car is probably going to be much closer to Melbourne spec.

Outside of that - great that the team got in a full race simulation with no problems today. Times looked good and consistent, though I still think its difficult to read too much into them. Still bloody interesting though!

I can understand the frustration of some Kimi fans here, because it seems every stupid thing goes wrong when he drives the car. If this shit continues in next test, then its something more than coincidence.

Yes, team is on purpose sabotaging his best driver that had 3rd place in championship and is gold mine for sponsors. Lopez is so up for that. SO UP.

Any visible updates on the car?

Not really. they put their most advanced Rear wing (from 2012 last races). They didnt really use it in Jerez. And ran the DRD's monkey seat

What i think is that this times are an average lap times.
Having that in mind we can say that Gro was faster by 1,6 sec. than Pastor on each lap.

The article doesn't specifically name Lotus, but from here (click me) I understand that Lotus' problem with the software might not be a Lotus' failure but McLaren's.

Summarizing very fast: the article says the new software for the standard electronic unit doesn't work properly when the cars are on track and all teams are suffering it to a bigger or lesser extent. Now, McLaren has taken the back the 2012 software while they try to solve the issue.

"I stared at the incomplete telemetry data for 12 hours."

"and then I wrote a two-pages-long e-mail, which I sent to the engineers in Enstone, giving them indications about how they could improve the car and make it -by my calculations- 0.8 seconds per lap faster"

I fashioned a makeshift wind tunnel out of a cigarette and a desk fan at the back of the carage and designed us a new rear wing. I'll build it at the hotel room later today.

 :rotfl:  - and you all have already made my evening :D

Really great that everything worked fine today and Grosjean could gather lots of important data for the team.
Would like to see more detailed photos of the new car - I'm curious about the new parts they have talking about and what they do .
Or maybe they haven't tested so many of them yet?

two things about E21 puzzles me,

1. DRD duct to the rear wing isn't connected, suggesting that it should work by sucking/blowing air out under the wing through modified monkey seat, thus stalling it.

2. they have the most curious looking attachment connecting the Tea-tray to the tub, it almost looks like a duct, though if it's the case, what's it blowing is anyone's guess.

btw, long runs looking good, it's a shame though that Kimi couldn't do it yesterday. but i guess he wouldn't loose any sleep over it. to him, long runs are same as short runs, only more laps

working DRD stalls rear wing, reducing drag and increasing top speed.

Maybe they are testing the 'side effects' of the not-yet-functional-DRD parts on the aero...

that makes sense, i guess all the functionality with 6 cyl TC management are too complicated or too upgraded for poor ol' V8NA

Allison said updates will come to the last test week and car will be on melbourne spec.

soon in about an hour from now there will be Boulliers interview from our tv, saw the headline that he will say Lotus is at the sharp end of the grid in terms of speed.

Just like they were supposed to be come out fastest after the summerbreak last year. Now how did that turn out.

Yeah if it all happened when Kimi was driving, it's because he's a wooden eye and he totally broke the car.

If so, hopefully they'll remove those hideous inlets at the airbox soon...

I did a quick search trough the Amus and Autosport gallery from today and I don't seem able to find another pic with the 'periscope' on it. Sure it's a pic from today?

it is there. (i presume you're referring to kimi/romain name inlets)

P.S as long as something has aero value, i don't mind anything, functionality over aesthetics

IMO, DRD is still missing one part (atleast); the lower pipe that exits the engine cover and blows just below the monkey seat.

Yes but the inverted-'U' shaped monkey seat looks as if it was designed to 'host' that pipe (in order to help air extraction from that pipe)... it looks similar to E20's and W04 DRD...
Otherwise they would design a classic rectangular monkey sear IMO...

I think they have opted to redirect that airflow may be to blow the diffuser when the wing is not being stalled. Hence why this piece is missing. I doubt the monkey seat has a lot to do with the DRD as many teams without this device use it. Its probably there to create some downforce from the cooling air which exits at the back.
