So the 'rules' are simple: 10 drivers of your choice, 3 reasons each to support them. Reasons can be straightforward, funny or even sarcastic. No direct put downs though. And please note that these are reasons to become a fan of the driver, and not reasons why they are the best driver. Although the two categories may coincide, it'll be far more fun if your reasons are wacky rather than just "because he is the best".
Okay, so here is my list:
- Sebastian Vettel
- He has an un-German sense of humour, and gives great interviews. Even outside the car he is entertaining.
- He is almost always accessible to the fans, which means if you wait for an autograph, you are likely to be rewarded.
- He wins. Often. So get the champagne chilling and get ready to celebrate! *raise index finger*
- Kimi Raikkonen
- For all that he speaks rarely to journalists, whatever he does end up saying is either funny or so straightforward that is becomes funny. Great for a post-race quote.
- From WRC to boat races, he knows what he is doing.
- He is one darn good-looking dude. With a nickname like 'Iceman' and a love for Magnum ice cream. Yum.
- Felipe Massa
- He is so passionate, it is infectious. Catch him on a Brazil weekend when he performs well and his enthusiasm would be blinding.
- A rare good loser. Images from Brazil 2008 just make you want to give the title to him for effort if nothing else.
- His relationship with race engineer Rob Smedley steps into bromance territory. "Felipe baby, stay cool" never grows old.
- Nico Hulkenberg
- His nickname is 'the Hulk'.
- It is refreshing how he manages to keep from bad-mouthing Williams after they dropped him in 2010. While hurt feelings were present, he showed more composure than most when unceremoniously dumped.
- He surprises people. Be it Lee McKenzie in an interview or on-track in Brazil, he likes to do the unexpected.
- Jenson Button
- He is always good for a 'no balance/no grip' meme.
- He gives thoughtful interviews. The banter he gets going with presenters is wonderful to watch.
- He is a positive thinker, and rarely do things get him down. Even after a bad race, he is often willing to give a quote (accompanied with a wistful smile).
- Nico Rosberg
- He is really good-looking. A mix between Di Caprio and Britney, he is good for eye candy.
- He has a racing dad, and has performed admirably to live up to that name.
- He has out-raced a 7 times WDC for 3 consecutive seasons.
- Romain Grosjean
- He is, most of the time, smiling. Good for photographs.
- Despite his own troubles, he has looked geniunely happy whenever his team mate does well. A nice guy.
- He is the Race of Champions winner. Definitely has raw pace and could be a future race winner.
- Fernando Alonso
- He has a twitter account which is regularly in use. Great for a quote.
- He has consistently performed well wherever he goes. Good outside bet for WDC.
- He is a football fan. (okay maybe that just appeals to me personally ;) )
- Mark Webber
- He does amazing things even off-season, like his Tasmanian challenge.
- He once raced despite a healing broken leg, against doctor's advise. Totally AussieGrit.
- He is straight-talking. No need to sort out confusing mind games.
- Lewis Hamilton
- He is always in the news, embodying the circus part of F1. No need to search for too long to get information on him.
- His off-tracks antic can be just as hilarious as what he does on-track. Like his photo shoots.
- He is fast. And a racer. (whatever that means)
