Names aside, does this Scorpion even have the money Thesan wants for whatever is left of HRT? All I read was intentions, not a done deal.

So they couldn't afford a legal battle in courts to protect their identity but they can afford to purchase and run an F1 team? What a load...

Hank Scorpio: Don't call me Scorpion. It's Mr. Scorpi-o, but don't call me that either. Call me Hank!

. . .

Narain Karthikeyan: Mr. Scorpio, this car is almost too good for us. I keep expecting to get the bum's rush.
Hank Scorpio: We don't have bums in our team, Narain, and if we did they wouldn't rush, they'd be allowed to go at their own pace.
Narain Karthikeyan: :D

just a thought, but couldnt someone buy the cars, and use them in driving experience days?, in which case you would want all the assets, and being a simple car, the hrt might be a good buy, and cheap/avaliable ...

You could buy 2005-spec GP2 cars and accomplish the same thing.

What does Pirelli have to do with scorpions?

Pirelli Scorpion Tyres.

Is there any real background to these guys?
If they are buying HRT then surely all they want is to buy the F1 entry slot. The fact they are setting up base in the UK means they would have to move any staff from Spain?
You'd have thought they would't want to buy HRT if they were intending to race HRT cars, so they must have some sort of plan up their sleeve?

well, several websites, including Autosport, are running the story so there must be some money behind that Scorpion project and their intention to enter F1 must be taken seriously. If they succeed is another matter, since the deadline to enter for 2013 has passed, that means that the other F1 teams have to agree on allowing Scorpion in.

Ja, Naturlich.

Guess they've got to 'Raiden' HRT's base first.

Sounds exciting. Might be a good effort from USA.
THo I think it is almost impossible even to fit a engine to a chassis.
Besides, involvement of tire company sounds like a trick in the whole set up, suddernly we might see two tire test drivers on the grid in their test car...

You misunderstand, one. Pirelli have absolutely nothing to with this whatsoever. They were suing a company for using 'scorpion' in their name.
And I dont think it will be a good effort. Trying to buy that car and with no team to back it up smacks of the usual billionaire who hasn't a clue. As mentioned, it would be outside 107% this year at most places, and then you would have to scrap it for '14. All seems a bit silly to be honest. :well:

I would have thought that Abarth/Fiat would present a more obvious copyright problem.

Anyway, good luck to these aspiring team owners, although I can't see it being anything more than a pipe dream. Would love to be proved wrong, though.

This wont happen, "Scorpion Racing" website looks it it was made by a 5 year old using a GoDaddy template.

I doubt they even have the funds to compete in lower formulas much less F1. Sounds like another couple dreamers who want to get their name out there for attention. And they'll get it because there's nothing else to talk about in F1 atm and journalists love to copy + paste easy articles.

and yea they already had to change their name to "Emperor Racing" because Pirelli sued them, they are basically a niche manufacturing company. I doubt they can even afford a 1day test much less a full season with car and mechanics.

look at this garbage website:

http://emperorracing.com/

that logo :rotfl: made in Ms Paint and they couldnt even cut out all the white in the background to make it transparent

Not quite buddy, not quite. Nice try though.

Both Wickens and Rossi aren't that good that it would be a "ideal" line-up...

Have you had a look at Wickens' junior formula record?

There you go.

I've been out of the loop for a while, but if 107% will still be here this year and they'll use HRT's old chassis, then enjoy the traveling but forget the racing. This story sounds so Stefan indeed.

you gotta think that they are buying the entry slot for 2014 so they have the year to get a car together. If they purchased the team would that give them the slot? Im not sure how that works.

The impression I got from the Autosport article was that this would most likely be a 2014 effort. Having said that, if by some miracle they do get an entry for this year, I don't think HRT would have been able to do much better.

Thanx for this AlexMouse. I myself and me was puzzled to read on some posts that Pirelli got some involvements. I went no further than this.

All a side, I kinda like US team on grid. But for 2013 will be very very difficult to achieve. There is no possibility to get a customer or go under the owner ship of one other existing team, like STR did in the past. STR is now full team in a sense that they design and built chassis, got James Key involved in it and so on.
Only in my wildest dream I cold see Mercedes taking them under their belt and split their team in two efforts as they do have huge list of accountable person's list... :)

Finally the obvious photoshop we all waited for

I find this to happen in 2014 very difficult, so let´s say it´s almost impossible for 2013.

Sometimes, with stuff like this, i really think about the idea of customer cars, it shouldn´t be that hard to enter F1 and have a decent car.

Wouldn't suprise me in the least if Bad Egg Jack was behind this. I remember there was news a while back about some Canadian Pension Fund investing with Jaqcues, or starting a team, or something. Whatever happened with that?

Quite possibly. The FIA did, after all, turn down the last attempt to create Team Villeneuve via the GP2 team Durango, so it wouldn't surprise me if he was involved in this.

Well, if they don't run in 2013, they might not be guaranteed a 2014 spot.

No the evidence points to one specific incident in one country. Which may have been defended better with more resources. And there's at least one other example where Scorpion was used by someone else in the motoring world.

Hogwash. It set a precedent legally and it also gives a very good indication of Pirelli's attitude towards other motorsport brands using the same name. Anyway, how do you know that the Scorpion on the link is not the same company as the chancers who are trying to buy HRT?

Not only do they make a motor-racing product, they make them in black! And they're round!!

Why Pirelli has not banished these people to the fires is beyond me.

But you don't know which Scorpion this is. I don't think there's much point in us discussing the wherewithal of the outfit if we don't know who it is. It may well be the group which Pirelli sued in which case anyone talking/writing about this has been taken for a ride.

Maybe I should create a FB page for my virtual team and then write Bernie a letter informing him that I have plans to buy remains of Arrows and enter f1 in 2014. That should also get me some nice publicity.
Now I need to come up with a flashy team name...

Great idea - I know just where you can find a couple of Arrows cars too: http://www.arrowssel...com/contact.php

I doubt they will be much slower than last year's HRTs (even without engines).

Well Pirelli are selling their HRT chassis as "nobody in the Italian tyre company wants to use it for promotional purposes". Can't say I'm too surprised as the chassis to the naked eye looks slow unlike other teams cars.

it doesn't look slow to me, paint it in red and you have an f1 Ferrari for most people I'm sure.
