Yeah it's a bit dumb to have a live unveil but not allow photos, just release renders/studio shots. But some of the McLaren fans are protesting a bit much...

They say they are going to present pictures themselves at 14:00 GMT at the RBR website. With videos, driver comments, photos. Perhaps that is why they have restricted the picture taking - they don't want the live viewers to steal their thunder :D

Have a launch, invite people, all the glitz, but no photos.

Of course.

Its no different from what they've being doing for years, the bully boys infront of the car at pits. Just taking it to the next level.

Indeed. Apart from a few glory followers. Least likable team ever, IMO. Honestly, the arrogance is staggering.

Funny. McLaren and Red Bull. Who'd have thought that McLaren would be so open with their car. While Red Bull being so closed.

You'd expect it the other way around.

I think you will find that was before Red Bull started winning Championships. McLaren is also old school F1 which aside for its clinical approach to engineering and techo babble has always been pretty open to the press. That aside, this combined with the farce over at the Mercedes teaser makes for a pretty poor start to the year. :(

For a team so consumed with cultivating a fan-friendly, warm and fuzzy image, the RB9 launch is a MASSIVE PR FAIL!!

Unlikely that any of the reporters they invited will be talking about the new car, but they will DEFINITELY be talking about the North Korean-style info blackout at their PRODUCT LAUNCH! RBR must truly believe there is no such thing as bad publicity. :rotfl:

total fail. Have the live launch just before the unveiling of pics on your site but then don't let people take decent pics so they end with a lot of blurry first pics of their car and hacking off of the press.

That's not comparable. They likely won't have any top secret parts on that launch spec car anyway. And pretty much every team tries to keep their secrets at the races.

Look, I would love to like Red Bull. Turned up this year thinking I'd really try and get over my dislike of them and thereby enjoy the sport much more. But they leave me cold, every time, the attitude stinks.

I find it pretty arrogant to label fans of a certain teams as mere 'glory followers'. But that may be just me.

Sembra che Red Bull abbia anche bloccato i segnali 3G in sala per evitare di far diffondere immagini della Rb9 via smarthphone

It seems that Red Bull has also blocked the 3G signal in the room so you do not spread images of RB9 via smartphone

Even to the point of hiring bouncers to stand in front of their car? Redbull on the start grid took it to a new level, this is continuing of the poor show by them.

Pity the media don't just black them out, it would serve them right.

All seems a bit over the top considering we already have seen some high-resolution pictures.

I have to say Newey knows how to make fast and beautiful cars and he made it again. RB9 is gorgeous, and I just can't believe the massive front undercut of the sidepods with the same tight back of the car. Incredible!

There's bouncers everywhere on the grid.

Those look like rendering too me rather than photo's. You can bend and twist art to hide whatever you so desire. Bit hard to do that with random photos.

Those are enhanced Redbull provided images. They don't want design details to show.

Doesn't seem to stop him from using Twitter though. I'm not completely sure, but i don't think you can specifically block only 3G.

if this team was a driver it could be only one, always ready to do whatever necessary, within the rules or not, arrogant like hell but also with an undeniable talent, and a will to win like no other and at any cost! Schumacher
Please Mclaren or even ferrari, bring this team down this year

The renders are pretty rubbish, you can't really see the exhaust solution. The unauthorised shots from the media are the best we have.

I know, but they also control what is on the car at the launch. Surely if they want to hide something they can just not put it on the car. (ie, McLaren's exhausts at their launch last year)

3G is on a different bandwidth to 2G, you can easily block one without affecting the other - also, twitter messages are tiny compared to photo's. They would easily go out over a 2G connection which the phone would default too, photo's may be locked to 3G connections only.

Not sure to be honest, but I know some phone companies do this.

Not seen it - and the only time I have heard it referenced too is with Red Bull. Other teams may wave people away, but they don't have mechanics posted only to block off sections of the car. Happy of course to be proven wrong, but pretty sure its only Red Bull that has played this game.

I completely agree - while I have to put my hand up as a McLaren fan, I was very pleased to see the level of access the press had to the car at that launch a few days ago. This compared to that is night and day. I know Red Bull want to keep whatever edge they believe themselves to have as long as possible, but it would have been better not to hold a launch event than to do this. They will get a lot of negative press for this.
