68 TT Derbi

I raced a 50 from 1961 for a couple of years and then 125/250s and sidecar passengering.
I have had in my shed for abour 20 years what I was told is the Barry Smith 1968 TT 50cc Derbi.
I now think it may have the wrong engine as I think the TT bike was a disc valve engine and this is not.
The previous owner used it in sprints.
I may restore it but have other projects not started including a 1960s TSS 125 Baultaco.
Does anyone have any info or photos on the bike.

I realise Barry Smith's dominant win was in '68, but this may give a clue.

The bike is air cooled so am not sure ,
It was left with me about 35 years ago by an old racing friend as he had no storage.
He died about 15 years ago leaving the bike to me in his will along with the Baultaco and the Reg Everet Greeves which I returned to Reg as he lives 20 miles from me in Essex UK.

I suspect the TT winner would have been watercooled, as the bike looks the same as the '69 bike in this info page from one of our own forum members, T54....might be worth sending him a PM through the forum as it looks as though he's right across the Derbi lineage.

The "works" bikes were disc-valved and water-cooled but the "customer" bike was air-cooled and I think piston-ported. These did not offer the same performance as the works bike and consequently were not a great sucess.
Having said that a 125 Derbi "custome"r race bike would still be a very desirable item.
Mick Walkers book on "Spanish Racing Motorcycles" has a paragraph or two on this. Would I get shot if I scanned and posted these ??

My understanding is that after some success in the 125 class Derbi offered a 125 customer bike.

Many thanks I will not shoot you I have just been outbid on e-bay for the book.
Had a reply from Barry today and now think i was misled about the bike and it is a production racer. it is air cooled and piston ported .
I have never had it running but was told it has a Yamaha FS1E piston.
There is a large ches tof spares that i have never looked in.
The bike was left with me for "tempory" storage about 25 years ago the owner died 15 years later leaving it to me along with a 125 TSS Baultaco and the Reg Everret Greeves Racer.
Many thanks to all great forum also just had PM from old pal Bill Laurance.
