I've seen an impressive picture of the heroic work of Gene Greenspun during the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1957, pushing his white Ferrari 250GT for two miles to the pits, only to find retirement enforced by irreparable oil filter.
He shared the car (owned by Luigi Chinetti?) with Olivier Gendebien who incidentally lost time at the start by leaping too violently into the coupé and falling out the other side... Despite its late getaway, however the car was leading its class after 100 laps, but oil pressure dropped while Greenspun driving, and he was forced to push the heavy car to the pits.
Don't know more about Gene Greenspun's life and career. Seem to remember he raced longtime alongside Phil Hill.

When invited to co-drive the Ferrari 315S bought by William "Gene" Greenspun in the September 1957 Road America 500, Phil Hill was not exactly impressed by Greenspun's racing skills. He refused to give up the wheel and drove the car to victory by himself. Greenspun's subsequent results in his 315S were rather mediocre.

Found this on the Ferrari Chat forum, date October 24, 2012:

"Gene is a friend of mine since 1954. He is still alive at age 93 and living in NYC. His memory is not sharp anymore, due to age, not illness. I can supply a fair amount of info. Send me an e-mail at: driver26@optonline.net. I will be glad to share with you."
