On most forums, each user's location is shown along with their posts. I think that would be a useful addition here because sometimes people post utter rubbish. In those cases I find it hard to know whether I should put it down to the language barrier, or a native English speaker who happens to be stupid.

Ah, you're in Formby I see. How are those iron men on the beach?

R Soul

To what should we attribute the goofiness of your suggestion?

A bad hair day? Indigestion? Reached the limits of your veneer of tolerance?

They're rubbish. They look like they're going to wade in and drown themselves.

Someone posted "You'd love it over here..." and it occurred to me that no one would know where that user was talking about. I am aware that the info is available via the profile but so is the date we joined and our post count, yet they're shown with each post even though they don't matter.

It would also come in handy in the RC forum, for reasons I mentioned in the first post.

EDIT:

Okay, I think I get what you're saying--show the user's location as is set on their profile beside their post. That would be convenient. I wouldn't like it if they forced you to post your location, though.

well... only if you can pick the flag of your country yourself enable it in the profile or not... but not showing where somebody is if that somebody does not want it to be shown... privacy and such

Surely user's first language would be more useful. I'm not English but I lived in England for 17 years.

Does it really matter where we are from? We all have one thing in common in that we are all fans of motor sport.

It does not, but this info is much more interesting than "Member Posts: 1,173 Joined: October 03".

Entertaining maybe. Knowing that guy you are talking to is from some exotic country you never been and never will be.

I can understand that somewhat, however, when discussing motor sport I think it is irrelevant where a member is from.

I can see no reason for this. I am Danish but live in the US, while on Atlas I have lived

USA
Denmark
Holland
Denmark
USA
Canada
Luxembourg
Switzerland
USA

But don't want the forum to tell the world where I am, there is a reason I do not do social medias (unless Atlas is a social media, then I do do them).

I did not mean using geolocation information. Just what you wrote in your profile info.

PS. Looking at the ForeverF1's profile I understand why it's a no-go idea :)

We do have different points of view from our various locations depending upon the news sources we read and the experiences we have. However, I don't agree that we should have that information shown. This is 'social media' and it seems to me that if you don't know enough about the person you are discussing an issue with then you have the means to find out, or ask them to clarify their point, or join Paddock Club and learn about their views on other issues.

Learn something of the people you debate against as well as with, treat them with some respect, and perhaps their location or first language will become irrelevant.

Although you should edit your post, given that They're actually inclined to do so.

You know, as in the Proverb for Paranoids: "You hide, They seek."
