In the end of this interview Robert says that all he needs to return to F1 is car wider by 10 centimeters (4 inches).

And that's a pretty huge compromise in F1.

I agree but few months ago they were talking about 20 cm and now its 10 ;)
Back then he said its not possible to drive singe seater and now he says he can drive F1 car on "some" tracks.

RRC's are geared for a higher top speed than S2000's.....

They mean overall speed not top speed ;)

Well its clear after i seen the practice replays. He is going either to stomp the rest or not finish the rally.

The Canaries roads bite. There is zero run-off, with walls, cliff faces and so on on every stage. No room for any errors. So I would not be surprised if he does not finish. Far more experienced drivers than him have come a cropper there. I hope he drives with some circumspection and seeks to achieve a good finish rather than trying to win at all costs.

Come on. Lets not get the hopes too high.
This isnt some small italian rally. Kopecy and Breen are goin to ve super fast and if Robert menages to get close to them it will be success.
I wouldnt judge speed from practice videos.

Julian Porter ‏@The_Rally_Guru 1 min
Just finished an interview with Robert Kubica, a great guy, he's here to have fun, enjoy his driving & hopefully be competitive!
Kubica's pace notes will be in Polish, with some Italian & English thrown in where the words are shorter than Polish!

Seems as though it's been a wet and foggy morning with heavy rain now setting in.

Its pretty normal for people with his speed and level of experience to crash often.

so maybe he should think about slowing down a little when he has such fine lead?

If you want to "say facts", get them straight - he crashed some time ago due to his co-drivers error. Not his own.

That said, I'm disappointing. Sure, accidents in rallying is nothing unusual, he is inexperienced, was driving an unknown (to him) car on unknown and difficult stages with a new co-pilot. But still, with such a huge lead I think he could manage it better.

Unless it's down to him slowing down too much and thus loosing concentration. It's hard to manage the pace properly on a rally without proper experience. Dricing on an unknown stage with pacenotes is much different than taking the same turn for a thousand time. It's always easy for armchair expert's to criticize.

If I were to bet now and say why he crashed, without hearing from the man himself, I would venture to say that he crashed precisely because he wanted to go slowly. You don't have to be on the limit to end up on the barriers and it's much easier to lose concentration when you are cruising. That said I'd love to hear from Robert. Maybe he will tell us, how he managed to throw away certain victory.

EDIT: I really cannot believe he crashed out from such a huge lead. Wonder what happens in Portugal...

No. It's not even true if you counted his co-driver's error and mechanical problems.

http://www.ewrc-resu...file.php?p=8567
(Robert had one more start than this two zero car starts, all finished)

Given the lack of experience I don't think he crashes out unusually often. But all eyes are on him and every failure will look like a big deal.

I'd rather like to see him fast and crash out than mediocre/slow and finish. Needless to say would be happy to see fast/win and finish, but heck, he dont need to be told. Come to think of it, that people's expectation has got quite high is amazing. :)

Would like to see how far that cliff drops off.

More annoying to me than his crashing is that there are people that still can't say his name right. "Kubika".....ugh.....

Yeah, the back end just let go. He'd have been fine otherwise. That's one of those ones which could only have been avoided with more knowledge and experience of the stages.

It could have been avoided by braking earlier.....

Edit: You're right, that is nonsense. Take out "of the stages", I'm not sure what I was on about when writing that. Probably "of the car" makes more sense, Robert is still learning the characteristics of the car under different setups.
