I'm afraid that kosmic33 is right. It could have been avoided with better knowledge of the car or perhaps (but not very likely) with more detailed pace notes. But I don't think this has anything to do with rallying experience.

Though maybe with more experience Robert would have been able to manage the pace better.

I didnt really know what to expect from Kubica, i know hes dominated some of the rallies hes done but they werent that competitive, but i was really impressed by his day 1 performance. And its way to early for people to be talking about him replacing Latvala at VW like i've seen on some other forums.

People on other forums? What about Autosport's David Evans: "Citroen has found its new Loeb..." :D

Other entries include: S.Ogier, A. Mikkelsen, M. Hirvonen, D. Sordo, M.Ostberg, Nasser Al-Attiyah, J.Novikow, T. Neuville, M. Prokop.

He will be driving his Citroen RRC, others will be driving WRCs.

I expect Kubica to beat one of the WRC drivers. Not because Kubica "must" be fast, but some WRC drivers are just plain slow. Also wondering if it is R4 or N4 those Subarus and Lancers.

None of those listed in post #154 are slow. If he can beat even one of them it will be a real achievement.

Lotos must be prepared to see a painful humiliation in Portugal by Kubica of Kosciuszko (who they also sponsor) in a Countryman WRC...

As some consolation, they awarded Kubica the Colin McRae Flat Out award for his efforts.

I posted a link above :)

I wonder what's this about:

Also, in the day two highlights there's an onboard from Robert's crash (though they've cut to the well known fan video just before the impact).

Is he? He is in a pretty much privateer team, not a works car. And he was Junior WRC so he can;t be that slow. Let's see if Kubica can beat him on gravel then.

In my mind, he is. Not as slow as a certain pole in a Mini this year, but still slow.

Citroen would like to RK to do WRC(1) in 2014, situation will be judged after each rally of course, so that decision can be made at hthe end of this year. RK himself says he is not thinking about 2014;)

How does RRC compare to WRC?
I dont mean spec but actual speed.

The fastest drivers in S2000 (in which RRC competes) usually beat the slowest WRC drivers.

Ogier & Mikkelson's times from last year in the Skodas would be a good guide

Ok so i went through last years results and i must say im quite suprised.
I thought those cars are much closer but it turns our that Ogier in S2000 was usually loosing 2 seconds or more per kilometer.
On some rallys like Portugal the difference was even bigger ( up to 4s/km).

Well, yes. But last year in Portugal the conditions were horrible, with the stages turning into a mudbath because of the rain so that's not really a reference.

Or did you expect Kubica to be in a position to fight for the overall win? :p

And you were absolutely correct.
Leading a GP2 race does not mean you can enter an F1 race in your GP2 car and beat the F1 drivers.....

All in all, Robert should be happy with his performance. He looked cautious even on the last run so that bodes well, at least speedwise. Let's hope for a clean rally next week.

Nevertheless, this was a very good effort by RK and suggests that with some more experience he can be competitive on gravel events as well as on mountain tarmac roads.

Info from @B_Sousa_rally, Robert Kubica may miss the Azores Rally because of pain and discomfort resulting from Rally Portugal problems

Looks like pumping all this hydraulic liquid was a bit to much for his hand...

That's sad. Hope it is nothing serious.
Anyway, I hope he will end his rally career and start doing some safe racing on track. I mean safe for his hand (without jumps on gravel, vibrations, etc.)
