That's sad. Hope it is nothing serious.
Anyway, I hope he will end his rally career and start doing some safe racing on track. I mean safe for his hand (without jumps on gravel, vibrations, etc.)

If he isn't physically up to driving rally cars, what sort of 'safe racing on track' would he be able to undertake? Even touring cars or one-make series like Renault Clios will be more taxing than rallying.

He needed to use a lot more force to shift gears than normal due to the modifications to his car. I don't think he is normally not physically up to driving rally or racing cars.

@voiceofrally16u
Heard in Portugal that Robert Kubica is planning on doing all remaining rounds of the ERC. He's going to be a busy boy! Great news for ERC!

Nice if true :D

"Forty-two cars will line-up for the spectacular gravel event, which will feature live coverage on Eurosport, RTP Açores and the ERC’s official website, www.fiaerc.com."

Apparently Kubica tested at the Mercedes simulator. They say his chances of return to F1 are 20%.

Why 20%? And why not 15% or 25%? Who did these calculations and how?;)

Given that Bild reliability is 20%, we can assume real chances are 0.2*0.2 = 4%.

But I still believe in Bobby, if this is true it would give him the chance to test his competitiveness. Hard to believe he would replace Rosberg, but if his speed is still there, rumor would spread across the paddock in no time.

I hope you do realize that your calculations are logically flawed :)

20% wouldn't be such a bad chance, all things considered.

Anyway, only time will tell.

A fully kit Kubica who was trying to enter F1 for the first time in 2014 would stand a 5% chance of getting an F1 drive.

I see you don't see the flaw I mentioned.

Also, giving such numbers is pretty much irrelevant to reality - just your opinion. I might say he has 7% chance, someone else 50%..

Why not just keep it to what we know? At the moment, he don't fit in a F1 car, but he loves rallying.

Well, I'd say it was a solid rally for Robert, definitely some positives to take away but also some lessons to be learnt. It was the stage where the fog was particularly bad that seemed to unravel the rally for Robert, one of the commentators on Eurosport made the point that during the recce in such conditions you just have to get something down for pace notes, even if you're not sure they're right. Still, this was only Robert's second rally on gravel; he punched above his weight for the first day and did well to bring it home.

Only if Nico was leaving of his own accord IMO (which could happen if opportunities arise in a future driver merry-go-round). The same could apply to Lewis, by the way.

Can't see how he will ever come back to F1 - he hasn't driven an F1 car for three years, he must be extremely deskilled now. Doubt he will be as good as he was in 2008/2010.

Kimi didn't drive two years and look him now. If his arm is functional he can back on his previous level. Though for me he never was a top driver, but a very good one.

Kubica was as good as it got IMO. A really top shelf driver. If he can get back to even 80% of what he was he's still going to be a solid F1 driver. Once he's ready a team like Williams or Sauber should take a risk on him.

If he's not 100% what's the point of coming back hoping to pick up the odd points finish?
Thankfully he's a very competitive guy and he won't come back unless he feels he's as quick and capable if winning as he was before.

When he announced that he was expanding his already busy programme to include even more rallies (like this weekend), this surely pointed to the fact that he's decided to try to make a career in rallying and needs as many competitive miles as possible to help with this transition

Presumably the F1 simulators are based around an actual size/shape monocoque? This would suggest that his arm was not stopping him fit inside an F1 car. ??

Well, Kubica said himself that on some tracks he would be able to drive an F1 car, Barcelona for example. Maybe he tested at Barcelona:)

Yeah, getting into a cocpit isn't an issue from what he said. Turning the wheel on twisty circuits is.

Interesting, I wonder if we'll see some Friday tests later in the year?
It seems like he is still recovering, so there is still some hope yet. He certainly still has the desire to get back if he is able to.

And the future? Citroën's Yves Matton told Motorsport Monday this week:
"...he is doing a very good job, is learning fast... I hope we can do something together next year..."

I wonder what are Robert's plans for next year...

Yeah if he can keep on making it to the end of rallies in top 3 positions within the S2000 class, it really does look as if he's ready to step up and learn for a year in the Citroen Junior Team (or Abu Dhabi Team, or whatever it's called nowadays) with the DS3 WRC.

If that remains his goal, of course he will. But his focus could change and that would be alright also.
