Because it is statistically rare. Which isnt an indication that it affects performance but how infrequently the opportunity even presents itself.

Perhaps. But the case of an Indycar driver whose birthday is in May could get around that.

I'm sorry, but why in the hell does anyone care about someone winning a race on their birthday? Unless this is for trivia and fun it is totally pointless.

So what's wrong with fun? (I find I keep saying that to women.)

What, like he's suddenly going to be really quick or really slow if his birthday falls on a practice day?

Based on your posts in this thread I imagine you say that to them as you are being handcuffed by the police.

You'd get better results if you picked something like "how often do drivers win when they have special paintjobs".

If a special paintjob had an effect upon a driver's performance, you can bet that his car would have that paintjob forever.

No, it's when they keep saying all I want is to have my fun.

Women seem to have a problem with men having fun.

As do some others.

Wow Mr Salty, someone got out of bed the wrong side.

Many sports, especially US based ones lend themselves to statistical analysis, while I think this particular item doesn't need too much studying - it's hardly RISP or 3rd down conversions inside the red zone territory - it seems quite unnecessary to resort to personal insults over it.

Let Seth go away and see what he can find for a subject that may just interest him, if you're not interested I suggest that you do indeed follow your own announcement and see us all in the Bristol thread.

Well, that is what we would want to look at--whether there is some statistically significant difference.

So by your reasoning it would be valid to measure the performance of drivers during races that occur during the time of a full moon or during the races that are close to the time their wives/girlfriends are on their period. Ridiculous.

But freakin hilarious...
Quick, someone see if there is a race scheduled this year on PSPs B-day and co-incides with a full moon and her period.
The possibilities are endless.

Oh dear, mental images of a red flag flying in that race!

Checks and it's actually 2 weeks tomorrow (March 25th)... just watch out if Fontana suffers a rain delay!

The moon is full on March 27th......

Uh oh.

S'alright, I get off on hostility. If my little attempts at fun irritate an enemy, then I get a two-fer. (And if he's not an enemy, then he won't be irritated.)

He hasn't been DeWalt for many years. That's the Ambrose-Petty car. Hell Kenseth isn't even driving the old DeWalt car.

But under normal circumstances Kenseth would have been in a Huskey/Home Depot car, which I'm sure Kobalt/Lowes would have loved...

Kenseth has been carrying Home Depot on his tail for the season.

The way the media's been going I'm waiting for spin that she was 5 laps down by halfway, so only 6 behind at full distance shows improvement.

I deeply regret not posting before the race that Hamlin would draw a speeding penalty in short order  These bets are like the debris caution lap pools a friend and I have (I'm trying to claim the Ambrose spin as not technically, but in the spirit).

Considering Kahne being the dominant car, Johnson's Daytona win, and Jr's best start, looks like 2007 again with Hendrick during a new car transition.

Andrew, you should consider getting DW instead, you will be able to bottle the hatred and sell it when things get hot in F1.

Hey man, I don't hate DW! I hope that isn't how my posts about him and the commentary come off. I just get a kick out of how I zone out for a while during Nascar races, and then things like "He did that turkey walk up the hill there in turn 5" bring me back to reality. It's not hate, more like bemusement.

Hardly irrelevant that you hate DW. The amount of hatred the avatar would receive from others would beat any pony.

That said, I too think DW is too much talky, maybe he is trying to impersonate Brundle but ran out of talent?
Michael at least tries to stay on the driver side of things without inventing new expressions (except when the discussion derails to trackside food) tho he tends to repeat himself a lot. Yes Michael, we already know those cars are tricky to handle, I can't recall a truck race where after a woble he doesn't go into "yeah, see? Those cars are dificult to handle...."

But nothing... nothing beats that talk box on Speed, I missed that guy on caffeine last year because I didn't watch the Speed pre-shows. I read a lot of bashing from Ross but really, he is WAY beyond ridiculous.

battle for the 6th lap down you mean ?

Anyway, someone had an interesting observation: Logano was nowhere to be seen yesterday, meanwhile Kenseth wins in only his 3rd race in the #20
Do we think coach made a good move there ?
Or is Penske putting all his eggs in a Keselowski shaped basket ?

Danica ultimatelly had the power to decide the winner in Vegas. As a backmarker, she could have wrecked Kenseth or Kahne at will, in the closing laps.

Keselowski is doing an Alonso. BK did a lobby in favour of Logano. Maybe BK wants to transform JL into his minion. :p

It does seem that Kes is the main focus, but... wasn't that as well last year?
Anyway, it seems they need to get the hang of the Ford first. I wonder if in a few months Roger will say something like "maybe we jumped ship too early".

She was being lapped by the leaders with a few laps to go and almost got in the way, that's why she was almost "in" that battle.

That's the thing, for loonies like me, it's a nice divertimento to calculate how often a driver will win on his birthday. I have to admit, I calculated it yesterday night right before going to bed

BTW, mean value is that each ten years somebody wins at his birthday (which means it's normal that nobody does it in 20 years or that two drivers do it during the same season), supposing 3/4 of the drivers have birthday during the racing season, 36 races a year and 3-4 start and parkers a race :p

Tell that to Jeff Gordon. I guess its his turn to be the odd man out. For as long as Hendrick has had 4 cars, I can't recall a time where all 4 ran well. It's usually 3 with the 4th car struggling somewhere midpack. I'm sure there's an army of people hoping JJ's turn is coming up soon

Yeah, was traditionally the #25 that was constantly struggling with Schrader, Craven, didn't Nemecheck have it for a year or two?

You can tell impact drivers by how teams fortunes change with their movements (Kyle Busch/B. Labonte in the #18, BK with the Nationwide #88 etc.) and the early evidence is that's the case with the Kenseth/Logano change. Joey did have some good runs in that car last year and has a strong Nationwide history, so he may be able to bring that car out of midfield land. The stint with Gibbs never lived up to the early hype, possibly due in part to bad timing with the COT, testing, and starting early when Stewart bailed. Nevertheless he got a fair shot and Home Depot must have been getting impatient watching Lowes get the exposure from the #48.

A year and a half. . .he replaced Jerry Nadeau after that career-ending wreck at Richmond practice.

Lol same, the Cartoon Network car and Bill Elliott's McDonald's car were the reasons I got into NASCAR when I was a child (along with Talladega). Nadeau did drive it. Strangely enough, I also remember Steve Grissom with Flintstones colors. When I got more into it, I started cheering for Dale Jarrett.

I always liked the cartoon-inspired paint schemes (the old ones at least), like the Looney Toon schemes the Hendrick cars used to run at Charlotte. Maybe I should go to a NASCAR sim design forum and see if I can request a render of an Adventure Time or Regular Show sponsored car.

turned into a good race after a dull bit in the middle- as for Jeff Gordon- he's never really been quite the same since the COT was introduced- and perhaps his powers are slightly on the wane

great result for Kenseth- can see him being team lead at JGR as the year goes on
