Having spent a lot of time at Mallory Park, from the first ever Motor Cycle meeting and just about every meeting there until 1989, I hope that, and I'm sure, they will survive these don't make a noise near me brigade. I don't go to Mallory anymore, they have for me spoilt the circuit. I still follow, from a distance, motorcycle racing and always will.

These days I take part in Land Rover trials on private land with road legal standard vehicles so very little noise is made but we still get locals turn up to complain about what we do, some walk over a mile to reach our venue. We are noisy, we wreck the land etc, etc. One of our farmer friends who's land we use has a new "next door" neighbour who lives about half a mile away, he's a doctor moved up from the smoke. The farmer was telling me the chap called at his farm the other week to complain about the smell from the farm and the fact that water ran off the fields across the end of his drive. The farmer soon settled this with a two word reply!

If I choose to lived close Mallory I would be aware before I moved there about the racing circuit and therefore there would be noise, if I lived in the village before the circuit was in use I would be now used to the noise and it will be a lot quieter these days than it was in the 60's and 70's. I guess all the complaints have come from people under 60 year's of age.

Myself, I live in a quite area, two houses from me live a family with young children. The kids tend to scream and shout and get excited playing in the garden, in summer this can go on all day! If I get fed up with hearing them I can go inside, go out, or turn the radio up. I could get all the neighbours to sign a petition to have the kids locked in a sound-proof room.

I don't see the problem, it's life. Live and let live. Long live Mallory Park.

We get it over here too, people move over to the Island, buy a house on the TT course and then moan constantly about noise, road closures etc etc

I like many others I hope have signed the petition.

I live in East Anglia 10 miles from Ely and we have to endure both the Yanks and the RAF playing 'top gun' and 'Biggles' at low levels all year round in the name of national security.

These aircraft not only pollute the atmosphere with burnt aviation fuel but pollute vaste square miles with unacceptable noise. I suppose the NIMBYs arround Mallory Park would be quite happy with this on a 365 day a year basis arguing that they feel safe in their beds.

I think Chris Meek has called their bluff by saying he would sell the land to developers. The one in question has denied all knowledge of any such an agreement but what it has done is given the residents who complain a stark choice between Mallory Park as it is or risk a development of over 2000 houses which would change the village into a small town. Latest news was that the public meeting to be held last Wednesday was cancelled and new talks were being held which were described as being ' constructive '

Good point RC, the NIMBY's need to be careful what they wish for as they could end up with a few thousand new neighbours congesting their roads every day instead.

If the land is going to be sold I'd suggest they offer it to the travelling community and allow them all to park their caravans on it and build temporary buildings to store all there belongings. The locals then might think that the racing community might not be that bad after all

I see there's now a further ludicrous chicane at Gerrads, making three in all on a circuit of just over a mile. Since it’s clearly now little more than a piss poor little go kart track, why is it worth saving ?

I had my first race in Britain at Mallory, so it holds many great memories for me, but I must say, it wasn't the Mallory of today. Personally, the Mallory I knew has long been dead and buried. What is left is but a shadow of the real thing. I won't lose much sleep over it's demise. That's just my personal opinion mind you, which I know will be seen as a rather selfish attitude by many others, but it is what it is, sorry.

Well at least we get to ride Mallory as it was when we go to the 1000 Bikes. We don't use any of the chicanes or the silly bus stop and apart from some better run off in a few areas it feels pretty much as I remember it from the late seventies. Kevin Scwantz really enjoyed being on the the track and said it was just as he remembered it. I think it would be a shame to loose any of the circuits that are left and I look forward to the new one in South Wales if it goes ahead.

I loved the "proper Mallory" in the 1970s, on 2 & 4 strokes so I could be biased but do you think the "chicane virus"could be adding to the present day, perceived, noise issue? In addition to the usual NIMBYs of course.

OOOH. Don't forget that 'ones mans chav is another mans neighbour from hell'. I should know as that's why we now live in the middle of nowhere rather than in Cambridge (which despite the luverlly buildings is a SH*THOLE best left to Jap and Yank tourists).

Only thing I would say is that when I started racing it helped that Snetterton was close by as if I had to travel say 150 miles to get to the nearest track I think it would have put me off but once I had the bug I was happy to go anywhere. The chance to have a go, by having a track nearby, must have encouraged a lot of lads to take up the sport. Mallory was the starting point for a lot of riders from nearby Stoke Golding and this place appeared a lot in race programs beside riders names. I for one think the smaller and oddball tracks are the breeding grounds for a lot of riders and long may they continue.

The company that operates Mallory Park was put into administration this week, as the ongoing row over noise nuisance with the circuit's local community continues.

Been very quiet on here, but Mallory Park is very much on the way back, run by ex-race star Eddie Roberts and Stuart Hickam.

 

They are looking for helpers to assist with painting and prep : no pay, but meeting and season tickets are on offer.

 

Seems they are looking to open as from March. Good on them. More on Mallory park Circuit fb page.

Edit : There's a report on the March 1 Open Day below in the car threads, entitled "Mallory Park - you can't keep a good circuit down".

The car chappies reported that the bike turnout was major !
